    Just go on eBay and buy a used 4790K, they go for £259 and then get a nice Z97 board for another £60 and you're all set.

    and that is why I too, will struggle with upgrading anything but my GPU, but I run a 5+ Yr old PC (server)

    Hmmm. Right.
     
    Well, for the budget the likes of a Q6600 for an average pricing of £14 would offer suitability substantial amount of performance, all whilst reaming in the LGA 775 socket. 
     
    Next would be a motherboard as such, with a refurbished offerings for around £28, as such: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GIGABYTE-GA-G41M-ES2H-Micro-ATX-Socket-775-Motherboard/272644923189
     
    So for £44.
     
    Now for a GPU, you've not got a great deal of room left at £50. Although only a 1gb card, this should serve fine for mid settings games

    The GTX 260 is slightly to obsolete now to be able to run any modern games, as it does not support DX11. However, despite that £18 isn't great in my opinion as they go for around £7 were I live. For older games like maybe Black Ops 1 etc. it will be awesome but anything newer it simply cannot. Sorry D:
