I'm actually folding on mainly 2 gpus and sometimes cpu when I'm at university I'm pushing my pc to it's best x) but even then I don't hit over 60k ppd.

DUW1G1T reacted to jakkuh_t in Folding Month 2019 - Help Medical Research with your PC!
    Hey everyone! ?

For the second year in a row, I'm here to talk to y'all about Cancer, Alzheimer's, Huntington's disease, Parkinson's. They are terrible diseases that have had an effect on nearly everyone in one way or another, and we want to help. Researching these conditions is an incredibly expensive endeavor, but for many people, donating to fund these causes isn't an option. Thankfully, there is still something we all can do: Folding @ Home

With your gaming PC, laptop, server, or really any computer, you can donate processing power from your CPU or GPU when you're not using them to help run calculations on a vast number of medical distributed computation projects. This massive shared computational power can help researchers learn more about these diseases in an effort to better treat them, and it can make a HUGE difference in the fight to conquer them. To achieve this huge collaborative effort, Stanford University started developing the Folding @ Home project, all the way back in the year 2000. It's a simple software you can run on your PC that automagically uses your processing power when idling (or full time if you desire) for the previously mentioned calculations.

You can fold with pretty much anything, your dad's old dell prebuilt, a top tier RTX rig, or presumably even a RasPi. Every little bit helps.

In exchange for your valiant processing effort, you can earn points that show off your contribution to find the cures all year round, but for a month out of every year, the Forum community runs a friendly Folding competition. Members of the community have donated a bunch of prizes, and you can read about the official forum competition here: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/1091921-ltt-official-folding-month-2019/

Note: Signups for the forum competition where you can win the community donated prizes, and a forum badge are open until September 30th at 23:30 BST.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In addition to the community donated prizes, we've partnered with several vendors to give out even more prizes to participants! Be sure to give each of them a follow as a thank you for their contributions!

    5 x Cosair prize packs including: a K70 RGB MK.2, a Nightsword RGB, and a HS70 Wireless

$5 per month if you generate 7M PPD or $10 per month if you generate 12M PPD.  Not really viable for most people (only the top 8 on our team would qualify).  Of course that's just the promotion this year.  It'll change again next year I'm sure.

When @leadeater passes you for the #20 spot and becomes the gatekeeper

Unfortunately, event badge sign up deadlines were September 30th. You're still eligible for LLT sponsored giveaways since that's a seperate event so-to-speak, and you can still earn point based badges based on how much you've contributed

Realised what I wrote could be ambiguous. I'm only not folding while the other event is on (5 days duration from previous post), not for the duration of the folding month. Will still aim for days active overall. I'll be back but I'm not going to fight to keep it running while systems have other work to do. The other challenge is CPU only, really nice to have a cooler house running those. Even my 7920X system is using less power than a single 1080Ti...

I'm not a big fan of boinc, but the folding client makes it look good.

@GOTSpectrum @palespartanBased on my mix of GPUs a rough calculation suggests our team is providing 2.96 PetaFlops of processing power to Folding@Home or about the same as Sweden's Tetralith Supercomputer currently ranked 74th in the world which has 64,512 CPU Cores

Being a bit of a nerd I added up the Single-Precision performance of all my GPUs courtesy of the data in TechPowerUp's GPU Database and realized that I have 102.3 TFlops of compute performance.

This capacity exceeds the 91.75 TFlops of compute performance of the IBM BlueGene/L Supercomputer which fifteen years ago in November 2004 was ranked as the world's fastest computer.

The Top500 list recently merged with the Green 500 list which measures the energy efficiency of Supercomputers. The top ranked position on the Green 500 list is the DGX SaturnV Volta system at 15.113 GFlops/W.

My current power consumption is 2.9kW so my efficiency is 35.289 GFlops/W
