People need to stop with this "shorten lifespan" using a PC at all shortens its lifespan. Now yes overclocking does speed up the process, but components will usually last well over a decade even overclocked. So lets say at stock your CPU will last 15 years, well overclocked it might only last 10-12 years, but you won't be using it by then so don't worry about it

Reglare got a reaction from Ordinarily_Greater in How to buy cards for retail, kinda
So as you know, the graphics card market has been in shortage to put it bluntly. After hours of scouring the internet for something even close to retail right now I think I've finally found them. We'll be looking at the 1060, 1070, 1080, and 580.

    Geforce GTX 1060
The first the 1060 retails at 299.99 (USD) 386.37 (CAD) On Amazon the card is selling at the average price of 424.00$ (USD) 546.00 (CAD)  (7 different cards) High 540$ (USD) 695$ (CAD) low 293.00 (USD) 377 (CAD). On Newegg average price for 7 of the SAME card (Chosen on amazon) I 504$ (USD) 649$ (CAD). Micro Center Has an Average price of 317 $ (USD) 408 $ (CAD).

    Geforce GTX 1070
Retail 399.99 Amazon has an average price of is 652 (USD) 839 (CAD) Newegg has an average of 716$ (USD) 922$ (CAD) Micro Center has an average is 465 (USD) 697 (CAD)

    Geforce GTX 1080
Retail 549.99 Amazon 659 (USD) 823 (Cad) Newegg 630 (USD) 811 (USD) Micro center 678 (USD)

    RX 580
    Retail 229.99 Amazon 535 $ (USD) 689$ (CAD) Newegg 675$ (USD) 869$ (CAD) Micro center 264$ (USD) 340$ (CAD)

Keep in mind you HAVE to pick up the Micro center cards, This is my grading system, all 12 average will be combined to show the value, I will subtract (in this case) add 50 dollars to micro centers cost to balance the pick up

                 Amazon     Newegg     Micro Center
      USD    567.5         631.2           431$ + 50$ 481$
      CAD    730.           941.             555 +50 605

So in all id say your best bet is micro center but remember they have to online stock, its all instore. I hope this was informative to you

Thanks for the insanely quick reply!  I'll check that out.

It is a workstation PC designed to do high end content creation.  These things with this CPU sold for about $8K when new (though I suspect this one had a better video card back then).  Now I got it for less than 5 percent of its original price!   It still scores at around 1438 on cinebench (compared to the Ryzen 1800x which gets around 1617).

Edit: and thanks for the other quick replies that were so fast they happened while I was typing this out

HAHA i forgot a case but yeah and I'm not sure if you can use that loop for sli didn't think about that either, maybe just go for a 212 evo and keep the gpu cooler, but no the FE cards have terrible airflow try an evga or asus card

also, get nvme drives instead of ssd's.. for this kind of build, ssd's are too damn slow
also, get the prime titanium as well

Here is a kinda crazy build for you and it leaves you about 400 for keyboard/mouse and peripherals
i realize i should have gone back and chosen a 1080ti with waterblock preinstalled, alternatively you can save some money and go for a aio cooler instead for the cpu..
the case was basically just as a price holder as this is very subjective, but it does have a unique design, but don't judge me to harshly..

this build also includes a vive, cause hey, gotta use that power for something
and yes, i know some of my choices are a bit overkill, but you can always go for a lower tier and get a cheaper build or get larger or more nvme drives etc better monitor
