  1. I saw a noticeable difference trying this. Good idea! I’m sold on the idea now.
  2. I got the idea that maybe lighting up the wall behind my TV or maybe under the TV stand will help me ignore the flashlighting and backlight bleed with my QLED TV by making my room less dark. Anyone try this? Did it make a difference? IMG_5816.mov
  3. Update: I found dead pixels on the newest TV and one other in the store. There’s even a dead pixel cluster. Luckily it’s only on the bottom edge: Every single panel had some. It was like 5-6 in a row. Confirmed. Dead pixels are very common at least with this make and model. It sucks and they shouldn’t be, but they are. The newest one I got also had backlight bleed on the bottom right/middle edge and at the top left worse than the last one. Of course I couldn’t see it in the store. 2 in a row with that. Sigh.. Samsung’s quality control is not great. They’re not going to let me exchange it again at Best Buy so I either have to return it or keep it. The backlight bleed is a worse issue so I’d prioritize that if you buy a new TV. I’m hoping it gets better with time if I keep it.
  4. The new one has some backlight bleed too I’m hoping it goes away, but the one before it had another issue where it looked like shaded vertical lines. Idk how to describe it, but if you were playing a game that was blue or light grey and you panned around, you saw a colour difference right in the middle of the screen that looked like a subtle line. Hated that, so might just put up with the backlight bleed and just be happy that even worse issue is gone. The bleed is more towards the centre of the screen now though so that sucks. edit: crud, found another spot at the top left hand corner:

  7. I returned it for the same one. Checked the replacement in store and it doesn’t look like it has it too. I think the other one was defective. Hard to tell under bright store lights if the new one is good. This is my last replacement before I can only return it so wish me luck.
  8. Not finding that one at Best Buy Canada sadly. They’ve only got the 65U78KM It doesn’t say anything about having freesync or gsync. Tried the Amazon page too. Unless they’re just not listing it, I guess it’s a no go. Got to at least have freesync.
  9. That sucks. Honestly, I miss big bezels. Never had a problem with this 10 years ago. Ugh, it’s between this one and the q70c with the Batman logo style splotchy blacks which is even worse IMO The only other model in my price point is a QNED by LG. 120hz and freesync or gsync are already pricy enough features. Def can’t afford to go OLED. All of the Black Friday sales are about to end too. spending way too much money to put up with so many issues either way. I’m tempted to downgrade to a TCL or something. Why pay for brand name if you get issues like this?
  10. It’s not just the blooming. I’m just using the mouse to activate the backlight in that picture. Here’s another one without the mouse
  11. It’s this one. Samsung q80c https://www.samsung.com/ca/tvs/qled-tv/q80c-65-inch-qled-4k-smart-tv-qn65q80cafxzc 22% off same as this
  12. It’s like the bezel isn’t stuck down enough or uneven in that area causing significant flashlighting. its pretty noticeable whenever that dimming zone is lit by something on a black screen like a watermark on a YouTube video. Is this typical? will it get worse or better over time?
  13. I don’t think it’s just luck. It’s not normal to be able to see pixels from 6-8 feet away on 4K screens apparently. I play way too many flight sims.. The new one’s dead pixel is not so noticeable, but it also has some backlight bleed flashlighting on the bottom right so might have another reason to return it again. I notice everything.. it’s a curse and a blessing
  14. Update: more dead pixels. 4 TV’s in a row now. The latest one only has 2 so far. I might keep it, but the 3rd one had like 15. Geez, check your TV’s right away when you buy them. dead pixels are very common now. confirmed.
  15. I exchanged it again. Props to Best Buy because they agreed to give me a deal on a better model at almost the same price since the other one’s out of stock now. I’m going to get localized dimming zones now which is awesome. I don’t have to pay anything extra to have them come replace it either after paying the first time so super happy with that. 2 TV’s in a row with dead pixels though? Maybe everyone else just isn’t doing white screen tests to look for them, but I think Samsung needs to work on quality control or their packaging, because I don’t think this is rare at all. Check your own display with a white screen. I just use notepad on a PC. Black screen too for backlight tests and for stuck pixels. Maybe don’t check it if it’s not still within the return window though. I wouldn’t want to know.. you probably wouldn’t notice them anyways unless you’re using it as a PC monitor like me.
  16. I exchanged it and the new one has dead pixels too. Geez. Now it’s out of stock so I have to go for another model or wait for restock if there is restock. Are dead pixels really this common? Both displays had 3 or more dead pixels.
  17. You can use the voice control too. I’m using it to set the volume and turn off the TV now. Bixby is hard for me to say though. I can’t imagine the trouble Mike Tyson has..
  18. That seems like the best solution, but still interested to see what else people came up with.
  19. Giant screen protectors are an option but seem like a bit much. probably cause glare. Anyone have experience with those or those outdoor covers. You don’t really need the screen while playing VR exercise games like Thrill of the Fight much. I just need to cover it and protect it. A giant piece of cardboard would probably work better than anything I’m finding. This an annoying rabbit hole for a protect to look for. Most of these solutions don’t look like they’d protect the screen much from an impact.
  20. IMG_5428.mov IMG_5433.mov Opinions please. I just got this new Q70C QLED TV for 25% off at Best Buy in Canada. Would you return it over this? The dead pixel is at least not in the centre of the screen. I’m scared I’m going to exchange it and be even worse off. It’s happened so many times to me with VR headsets that I’m paranoid. Everything I buy has a dead pixel. the blotchy blacks is probably enough to return it. I’m on the fence. opinions please. note: the worst dead pixel is at very start of the video. It’s about 5 inches from the top right and noticeable from 10 feet away on a white screen. Might be 2 dead pixels together.
  21. I have the same issue even though one of the TVs is 10 years older. For some reason my Apple TV remote also controls the new tv. It’s so stupid, it’s funny. First world problems of course, but never had this problem with old tech. Good thing I don’t have a garage door opener because the Samsung remote might open it.
  22. I’m stupid. I reapplied my thermal paste with a big x instead of a pea and I’m getting much lower temps. That’s all it was
  23. I figured. it’s a big oh well. I’m more mad that I had to pay 20% extra for customs clearance than a 1 or 2% difference in clock speed.
  24. New CPU. I upgraded from the 9700k to a 9900k for the hyper threading. My 9700k did 5.1 at around the same temps and voltage (1.35) this new one does 5.0 at with the same medium level 3 LLC, AVX offset of 4 4.5 uncore and everything else. 5.0 wasn’t stable at this temperature so had to make the call to aim for 4.9. Gave up on 5.0 for now unless I decide to aim for a lower uncore or trying different levels of LLC later on. is 4.9 typical though? I’m only using a 360 AIO, not a custom water cooling loop so maybe 4.9 per core is just what’s realistic. I lose so much stability and gain so much in temp, it’s just not worth it anyways. I would pull it back by 0.1 either way. I’m curious if I lost the silicone lottery here or got an average CPU? I hear a lot about underclocking. Is this what they mean? It’s 5.0 not all cores though at defaults..
  25. Oh wow. Yea you’re right. I just looked that one up above and it’s way too expensive to justify not just buying a laptop. This won’t be a thing worth doing until this is way cheaper. That’s double what I’d pay.
