  1. My brother dropped my dad's Chromebook, breaking its screen. So, we bought a replacement panel on eBay from a seller with good ratings. The model number of the listing matched the broken panel (I checked it 3 times); the eBay listing very clearly says it is a touch screen panel. When the panel arrived, I performed a swap. When I powered it on, the image worked fine. However, it registered no touch. To troubleshoot, I swapped back to the first, broken panel (about 1/4 of it is still usable). It registered my touch inputs fine, so I know the rest of the laptop isn't damaged. I assumed that the eBay seller sent me a defective panel, so I got a free replacement from them. I performed the swap again and got the same results. I did the same troubleshooting steps, and the broken panel still registered touch. Could there be differences in the panels I didn't notice? I see the H/W thing, does that matter enough? Is there some calibration step I need to do? Attached are pictures of the panels as well as the laptop.
  2. My dad uses a secondhand WoW mouse for work. He uses the buttons for their programmable macros. He brought it home a couple days ago because it stopped working (not during use, he showed up and it was broken) and I know a lot more about electronics than he does. I popped it open and found some mild corrosion buildup, which I removed to the best of by ability with a small, dry paintbrush. The cable itself is fine (I broke out a multi meter and tested for continuity across it on all the channels). Any advice? If I can't fix it, any recommendations for a replacement mouse? he uses all 14 buttons on a daily basis and wishes there was more of them. What windows gives me Back of PCB:

  4. But like, which ones? I am not too knowledgeable about different models.
  5. Don't care too hard about loading times, tbh
  6. Curious what I can get from upgrades to my preexisting rig. What would boost performance (used for browsing and light gaming) and cost less than ~$80 USD? CPU AMD Athlon II X3 450 PSU Prudent Way PWI PR550 RAM 6.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 669MHz Motherboard Gigabyte Technology Co. Ltd. GA-880GM-USB3 (Socket M2) Graphics 1023MB NVIDIA GeForce GT 710 (MSI) Storage 465GB Hitachi HDS721050CLA362 (SATA)
  7. I recently inherited a old workstation PC from a family friend and gave it a fresh install of windows 10 to erase the hard drive and bypass his work's windows pro domain. I've heard that I need to install drivers (I am going to put in a GT710 pretty soon to give it a boost) and found that all the motherboard drivers for this system's board are for windows 8 and under. Should I disregard and install the latest one? Should I disregard and continue driverless? (it works well enough for me to write this post and do some benchmarks.) This motherboard can be viewed here. One last thing: my little brothers will be using it to play some Minecraft LAN. Do I need a LAN driver for that?
  8. I recently lost my windows 10 ISO flash drive thing that I use for freshly installing windows/ wiping hard drives. I want to use a SD card I have because it is the only other storage device I have that has the capacity and is not being used for something. When I try to use the windows-provided software, it stops and complains that the SD is not a flash drive.I have a SD to USB adapter that I use, but that doesn't work. Is there a way I can change the firmware to convince the computer that the SD card is a flash drive?
  9. I'm pretty sure I did it right, but didn't get in. According to the page, what should I put in the UserName box and the Password box?
  10. I can't log in (still on company domain thing). I have a product key I got from an old dell vista computer. Would that work?
  11. OK Without a clean install, is there any way I can take of the company domain logon thing?
  12. No, this is a system with no branding anywhere on the case. Dell was my families computers in years past.
  13. Yeah I meant clean install. But when I have done windows 10 clean installs onto prebuilt Dell systems, it asks for a windows product key, but the internet says to skip it because the product key is on the system. Will this be the same deal?
