  1. Don't "need" such an upgrade, but the Dell 7060 started to have intermittent issues rebooting (now has "motherboard" fault, 2 orange lights then 1 orange light), and I happen to have the motherboard, CPU, RAM (32GB), SATA drive just sitting around, so I've put it all into a little 2RU chassis (RM23-502 Mini) with some quiet fans and the 2TB M.2 drive. What am I doing ... currently hosting my kids Minecraft servers (3 of them so far), VM for transcoding videos, a couple of remote desktops and Windows 2016 Server for software testing ... and I would also like to add in some more drives for a TrueNAS server to replace my ageing QNAP unit ... because why not! The Windows Server install normally runs 16GB of RAM but I'd like to bump that up as it contains a 21GB PSQL database. Hope that helps!
  2. Just moved on from my basic Proxmox server that was a Dell OptiPlex 7060 SFF, i7-8700, 32GB RAM, 240GB SATA PVE install drive & 1TB M.2 VM drive. Worked fine but now looking to do more at home. I'm using one of my old CPU's and mother boards, and RAM kit but once again only have 32GB of RAM at the moment. ASUS B560-G Motherboard (may change this to an ASUS Z490M-Plus, so that I can use both M.2 slots with 10th Gen CPU) Intel i9-10900 Micron 5300 480GB SATA PVE install drive Kingston KC3000 2TB VM drive Corsair Vengeance 2x16GB 3600 kit With the new CPU I'm wanting to run more VM's and possibly more storage and so have decided that 128GB of RAM would be ideal. Not overly concerned about cost (new kits are around AU$500) but more concerned about finding one that will actually work properly on this motherboard or the Z490M-Plus, and from what I gather something like 4x32GB at 3200 is what I'm after, and ideally single rank? I know there is a qualified list on ASUS website but that looks like it hasn't been updated in quite some time, and finding the rank info on most of them is quite hard. Can anyone make a recommendation? Cheers!
  3. Happened on several of my computers in the last week ... I've been happy with 528.24 across them and once again M$/Nvidia force updates upon us. Will leave it be for the moment as it looks to be quite stable for everything so far (still have the 528.24 installers on each machine), but if it negatively affects any of my workflows or performance I'll be rolling back.
  4. Although the sound card is probably better than most use it’s far from top of the range. As I also do audio and video on my gaming rig I have a (rather old now) original RME Babyface, which is substantially better than the Audient unit in the video, but if you really want to raise the bar right up there there’s the ADI-2 series: https://www.rme-audio.de/adi-2-4-pro-se.html It would be interesting to see what difference this would make?
  5. Is it legit ... well the link above does a reasonable review ... Will you end up with an activated Windows 10 is probably the real question you might have though ... yes, you probably will. I know of many activations with keys purchased through them, and if keys don't work (after going through steps with their online help) they will replace them.
  6. Not sure where this should live in the forum ... so we'll try here and a Mod can shift as required With Apple gradually changing everything, and higher resolution content with bigger file sizes, it's time to consider my options and possibly change a few things. My setup is as follows: Mac Mini 2014 i7/16GB RAM/512GB SSD - Sierra 10.12.6 - iTunes 12.8.2.3 - iFlicks 2.8.1 - iFlicks has watch folder for TV and movies, converts to M4V format, pushes file to NAS, adds file to iTunes with all the META. QNAP TS-531X - Storing Media Files in TV and Movie folders. TV Situation: Family Area - 75" Sony Android TV - currently has Apple TV 4K connected to it. Small Lounge - 55" Panasonic non-smart TV Study - 42" Panasonic Plasma ... yes an old power sucker, but rarely used. Master BR - 32" Panasonic non-smart TV - currently has Apple TV HD connected to it. Other things that connect: 2x MacBooks (mine and wife) rarely connect for media. 2x PC laptops (kids) connect to NAS and play via VLC if needed. 3x iPads do connect from time to time. The issues: 1 - Apple ID is required to "Home Share" from the Mac Mini to each device, fine for Apple TV's but iPads and MacBooks need to sign in, which in turn makes them "trusted devices" and so they get the notifications for the kids screen time! Not an ideal situation and I've spent many hours on the phone with Apple and the best they can come up with is for me to have 2 Apple ID's! Yeah ... 2 - Larger file sizes for 1080 and now 4K content means more storage ... and when the version of iTunes and iFlicks only deals with H264 files it's now starting to take up more space. 3 - Files in much smaller format being x265 are currently being converted before they hit the NAS ... and with the trusty old Mac Mini having a dual core i7 it can take some time, and anyone who's married knows that the wife generally has a different clock speed to the rest of the world 4 - Wife Approval Factor (WAF) is of major concern. The Apple TV is placed well in the house, not too big and it's interface is clean and easy to navigate. We also use them for streaming other services (Apple TV+ and Amazon). The iTunes/Apple TV solution has worked well for a good number of years, my wife goes to Computers, choses the Mac Mini and then can see her "unwatched" shows and off she goes. The first thought: I could just buy the new iFlicks 3 outright (AU$55.00, I don't want to pay monthly) and from what I gather it will deal with x265 formats just fine ... but I'd like to investigate a better overall solution as it's not the money, it's the locking into Apple ID and all that crap that I'm not happy with. Other solutions: Well that's where I'm asking for help, being stuck in the "not broke so doesn't need to be fixed" world it's been years since I've played with things like XBMC or Plex ... I'm happy to try things. I have an ESXi box sitting there to deploy virtual machines if needed, or a spare NUC ... or the Mac Mini ... and the Apple TV's are ethernet connected so no streaming issues, with Ubiquiti wireless AP's for laptops & iPads. Requirements: 1 - WAF ... yes, must be easy to navigate and have Android TV App or Apple TV App ... and have ability to see Watched/Unwatched status ... 2 - Must find TV/Movie META automatically (this is where iFlicks shines). 3 - Dropping a file into TV or Movie watch folder should be as much as I need to do, from then on it should be automated (as it is now). 4 - Converting on the fly to stream to a device is inefficient in my eyes, my preference is to have the files play without using live transcoding. This also allows me to transfer files to iPad's for holidays and they can play natively. 5 - Not a fan of monthly charges ... happy to pay outright for the right software solution. So yeah ... thoughts? Thanks!
  7. What cable do you have between the phantom power unit and your computer? Please find the exact model of cable as there are multiple ways those cables can be wired up and it will make a difference.

  9. With GPU not yet at 100% I still gained around 20fps ...
  10. So, recently upgraded from a GTX 970 to a GTX 1660ti, and while happy with the FPS boost it now looks like I’m CPU bottle-necked. Still using my X58 Micro with i7-970 clocked around 3.6GHz, and 12GB of RAM. CPU is now pegged at 100% with BF-V, and the GPU was reaching 70% while gaming at 1440p I know that some people will say bigger overclock but honestly I’ve had this machine for a very decent number of years (and GPU’s) and I’m ready to update. Im also going smaller, and I’ve already got new 1TB NVMe SSD, 32GB of RAM, ASUS H370-I motherboard, SG05 case and 500w SFX-L PSU. Needed 2 Ethernet for certain testing I do, and not fussed about overclocking so happy with H370, just wanting a solid CPU for the next few years and happy to spend. i7-8700 would probably be the lowest I’d go, but I am prepared to lash out on the i7-9700K or i9-9900K if I need to. As as you can see it’s been quite some time between CPU purchases so looking for some helpful info. Thanks!
  11. Looking for a GTX 1660 Ti for a SFF build in my SG05 case, but I'd like one where the fans completely stop when the GPU is not being stressed. I was considering the Zotac but reviews say that the fans are active all of the time. The ASUS Strix version is way too big for my case but it has the 0dB feature, so I'm trying to find out if the much smaller TUF version also has the feature? Thanks!
  12. Still running my EVGA X58 Micro that I purchased new with an i7 930 sooooo long ago! I am however running an i7 970 now that I picked up cheap about 2 years ago. It's in one of my favorite unassuming cases, the Antec NSK3480. It's had a variety of GPU's over the years, currently a GTX 970 Mini but before that it was a GTX 960, GTX 670, GTX 570 (SLI briefly when I picked up another one cheap) and I think it might have started off with the only AMD/ATI I've owned, a 5870. I think it's now running at stock speeds (3.2GHz) but I've had it happy at 3.8GHz, would have liked to hit 4GHz but honestly haven't had the time and doing it wouldn't change how I play games on it anyhow. Seriously considering the upcoming 9900X, I've normally gone with the thought that it's only worth upgrading if you can get double the performance and I think it's about time for the CPU. With my GPU upgrades each upgrade gave me a noticeable increase in FPS (not always double) but every time I thought about CPU upgrades it wasn't going to give me the bump I wanted. Considering over the years I've built my kids a pair of SG05 gaming machines with i7 3770's and GTX 960's to play The Sims, Minecraft and web games I think I'm about due for an upgrade. Only issue is that I'm hesitant to part with the old trusty workhorse and I already have quad core NUC's for VM's and a QNAP NAS with 10GE... It needs a good home, it might get donated, but we'll wait and see what the 9900X and 11 series of GTX brings.
  13. I'll stick with my Filco Majestouch Convertible 2 Cherry Brown (104 key) and my take anywhere Filco Majestouch Minila Air Cherry Brown ... both absolutely amazing keyboards.
