Massimo480 got a reaction from da na in PSU or OS issue? Random shut downs
Just to give you guys an update.

I made a new Windows 10 installation, and it's been days and I've not had any shut downs.

I was worried, because during one of the times when my PC restarted while I was plugging in the Windows 10 USB Flash Drive, the PC lost its power during the bootup. So I got worried that it may be the PSU and not the OS since the OS wasn't running yet.

But it turns out that the OS may have caused these shut downs that would require me to restart my PSU every time.

    The Windows Event viewer says:
"Critical - Kernel Power - Task Category 63
The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."

    I have a Threadripper 1950X, RTX 2080 TI, 64 GB DDR4, Thermaltake Grand RGB 850W 80+ Gold PSU.
    I built the system myself.

Hard drives can't perform at a sustained rate fast enough to saturate either interface, so it doesn't really matter.

Yes, but both have sufficient bandwidth to support a hard drive. The external one should be slightly faster, as it's a 5900RPM drive. They're both pretty slow though. What's your use case?

    Hi,

you'll want to look very carefully for any dead or stuck pixels (pixels that are black or stuck white) and youll definitely want to adjust the display settings to suit the brightness of the room your in and personal preferences.

    welcome to the community,

They won't know, and frankly if you're still making the payments they shouldn't care.

A lot of great advice but everyone is avoiding the main question, how to check if you think you are being monitored.
Yes, the solution to be sure is to reinstall but that's not what is being asked.

I don't have any real input to give sorry, but I hate when people are giving solutions to other problems.

Best option would be just disconnect from the internet, boot into safe mode, run a full system scan, move any files you want to keep onto an external drive, then wipe your system clean and do a fresh install of Windows from a trusted source.

You can download Windows 10 directly from Microsoft's website for free here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Turn on 2-Factor-Authentication on every service that you possibly can, and make sure you reset your passwords to something secure on a known clean device. Start with your email address(es) as they're quite powerful in terms of gaining access to someone's accounts, then work your way out from there.

Here is a list of supported asetek coolers by different brands

It appears the thermaltake cooler is supported.

Difficulty is always increasing. So, it is more and more work for the same result. Then more and more people are mining every single day. Expect a steady decrease in returns overtime.

Take a look at the coin market here: https://coinmarketcap.com/ If bitcoin stays up they will all keep climbing too, that's where your profitability actually comes from.

it decreases over time because difficulty increases with the power of the pool. The more miners there are online, the harder it is for each unit to mine.

And thanks largely to some tech bloggers opening their big fat mouths about it to every Tom, Dick, Sally, and Susan highschool gamer, you now have over half a million more high powered GPUs mining than just a few months ago. I was mining at about $7/day per 1070. I'm now down to just over $1.50/day.

to get paid for the time and effort, you're now looking at ASIC miners.

    Well lets see...
Harder difficulty->more valid shares (aka hashing power) required to get the same result (or a block)
Lower value of ETH now (as a couple of months ago, it hit $400~ per eth)

The combination of a higher difficulty and a lower value of ETH, earning less is expected.

    B3 is better
Why don't get a single PSU
For 2 1080TI, I always recommend tier 1 PSU with Gold or higher efficiency (examples: EVGA G2/G3, Seasonic Focus Plus Gold)

then "hobby" mine with the 1080ti, its not worth the power of having the 970 plugged in imo.

though there is no reason why you cant have both in.

NVidia drivers are universal accross all cards since at least the 600 series I believe. Probably even before, so your 970 drivers should work with the 1080 TI. You should be able to just plug n' play.

i'd first check the voltages. At least the 12V, 5V and 3.3V. Since its an Antec it's probably fine, but i have a hard time recommending someone over the internet to plug his/her computer to an untested PSU, it's not how you do thing in my opinion.

Take it to any friend/store with a multimeter, meassuring the 12v,5,and 3.3v takes literally a minute. (If you stare at the voltages for like 15 seconds each which is unnecessary )
    If 12V is between 11.8 and 12.5V it's ok.
If 5V is between 4.5 and 5.5V is ok.
if 3.3v is between 3 and 3.5v is ok.

High power psu lean towards having higher than usual clock, but we are speaking of, 0.5V higher not a whole volt or anything. Check those numbers and only then i'd suggest plugin your pc to test it in full load. Not without at least knowing the voltage regulator is not messed up.

Just know this, having proper volts (voltage regulator check) does not mean the PSU is fully functional. But it does mean it's probably safe to plug in to your pc.

    Cheers!
