  1. Also to bring this to a close i have found the culprit to what is causin the smell and (drummroll please), it was my monitor. Sounds odd but im not actually using a real bonified monitor, im using an old magnivox lcd tv and after i tinkered with fan curves and let my pc run while gaming for a little til it warmed up i found that all my wiring and components were fine (even though i did end up setting a fan curve for my GPU which now sits at 30C while gaming) and that it was the TV which was warming up and causing that smell.
  2. Guess im stuck here too. Still better than uni. Whel i guess ill go though the steps you all suggested and ill test out my fans on my GPU through MSI to verify the fans work though im 99% certain then check wiring and narrow down the scent.
  3. Alright will do first thing in the morning, also could it be my GPU, im just a little concerned with that particular component as i dont have the money to replace one right now but it never gets above 63C. And side note its good to see another Oregonian in the forums.
  4. Sounds good, thanks for the time if anybody else has any widome to give i would love to learn, thanks for the time and ill set a fan curve for my components tomorrow and do a nice cleaning and check my cable managemeant.
  5. how new are you talking about, my components are several months old. still within the window to which you are referring.
  6. No i have not just build the pc i have had it science the beggining of summer, that is not an idle CPU temp that is under load and is an i5 7400 the wiring could be a factor as i did use zip tyes that could be touching, i did fix a little GPU sag and had to use a little bit of pressure to hove it but it ran perfectly fine and there was only the seating noise and nothing is wrong with it and i would say its unlikley the fan is damaged
  7. Also just out of inquiring how bad would it be if it was smelling burned. What would i need to do to remedy the situation
  8. Thats why i was asking. I know that it could be a blown capacitor, i was however inquiring the likleyhood that it might be one of the more expensive components such as a GPU which i am particularly worried about because im OCD and a hypocondryach
  9. thats why i said it sounded a bit dumb. think the smell of warm plastic and such scents.
  10. So i know it sounds a bit odd but my computer begins to smell like warm computer components after a couple of hours, yet my GPU and all other major culprits of heat are at good temperatures and i dont think my GPU in particular has ever reached the point where its fans come on (1060 6gb evga superclocked, fans begin to spin up at 65C i do not have a custom fan setting yet) and my cpu hovers around 60C with a stock cpu cooler because im stingy. I am wondering if this is normal of if i should start investigating. Also im still a little new to PC building so be gentle and thank you for your time.
  11. So i know the title is clickbait but i need some assistance. I have been a complete hyocondriac about my pc. And yes i am a new builder. I have been worried that anything from moving my gpu in its pcie slot to getrid of excess sag mm at a time could kill my gpu only because i used a little bit of force (about as much as a normal instal) to bending the pchaon instal only because the hook seems slightly discolered (only upon close examination). Note i havent experienced any tell tale signs of gpu falure yet i still look for them instead of enjoying what i built.
  12. That is what i was thinking as i did turn off my computer when windows was still loading right after i saw the screen post to turn the computer right side up again. And the black screen issue isnt present in the BIOS. Glad to know that my suspiciion has been confirmed and its just windows not my card.
  13. Ok. A disclamer to start. I am using an old tv that is around six years old and an xbox one hmdi chord. Around a week and a half ago. I was fixing some gpu sag in my system. I had to move the card up a little to do so. But i had to use a little force. I know this isnt good to do but i am new to pc builing and didnt know better at the time. Now ever since this. My pcwill get a black screen on startup after around 30 seconds on the home screen BUT it comes back to normal after around five to 10 seconds. What could b causing this. Note i did not use a ton of force. And i was only moving milimeters and was not super agressive.
