  1. Can see the appeal but I think I’d rather just sell. Actually had an idea to try and sell it, hopefully for as close to £400 as possible then top that up by £100 and invest it in a share of Nvidia. Then when I can buy a new RTX card I’ll sell the share to fund it. Basically using the share as a pokeball to evolve my GTX 1070 to an RTX 30(40?) 70 or 80 depending on how the stock performs lol
  2. Never!! At least I hope not but in all likelihood you’re probably right, at least for the duration of the course haha
  3. It kind of hurts to think of not being able to use a decent card for an unspecified amount of time lol But I’m thinking in the long run it’s probably the best chance I have of getting a new card for effectively £100 and the money I recoup from my current card. I was resigned before to the idea of not getting much for my 1070 and needing to put in more money to buy a new card
  4. It just dawned on me that I have an old crappy Radeon graphics that was good enough to play GTA IV on high at over 30fps. I’m wondering if it’s worth me selling my GTX 1070 since prices are currently inflated, waiting a few months then buying a new RTX card? My situation is that I’m going to do a masters at uni later this year and would ideally have a new card by then. Until then I think I can get by with this old card + my Xbox One. It depends on if I can use the money I get from selling my GTX 1070 to buy a new card without much additional money as would be really nice to not eat into my uni savings and come out with a new card
  5. DKIM Verification? Never heard of it before or really thought about how sending emails is secure and now with all this stuff about the Fallout 76 Bethesda employee’s email there was a post on Reddit where they confirmed it was real by checking the DKIM
  6. Thank you for the detailed response, I've looked into the matter further as well though it hadn't ocurred to me that if the light is still blocked I'd end up with a dimmer spotlight so thanks for bringing that to my attention. I'm hoping that the bulb I've bought that is meant to come tomorrow will stick out enough to still shine in multiple directions and if not I'll return it. Unfortunately I'm not looking to switch out the socket, at least not before the end of the semester, as this being a student house I don't want to mess with any of the stuff the landlord has done too much (though I've done my fair share already) in case something goes wrong that could affect my deposit. That said I have looked at these converters as a possible solution to the limited range of non-LED bulbs available for the gu10 socket. Not sure if there are any major safety issues with them though but its something to consider. Also I agree that the bulb in my second link is a bad solution that I wasn't actually considering but I was just using it as an example of other bulbs that can fit the socket. Hopefully the bulb I've bought will do the trick otherwise I'll probably get that converter.
  7. I live in a student house and the whole light socket in my room stopped working, the landlord replaced it for me but did so with a shitty LED spotlight as that was the only thing in store at the time. So now I have these really bright focused lights in my room that make the place feel more like an ER than a bedroom. The problem I have with the lights is that since LED bulbs are flat and only shine from the front, they only light what it faces rather than most bulbs which shine in all directions. So the question I have is that is my GU10 socket restricted to only LEDs which are typically the spotlight variant I currently have or can I use any bulb that fits the socket like this bulb or this one? I've attached an image of a similar light bar to mine, although mine is only for 2 bulbs
  8. I watched a video that suggested that too but I wasn't sure if it'd interfere with my housemates' usage, eg force them all to re-enter their WiFi details or change the WiFi name or password. None of them seem to give a shit about tech and all use Macs etc and I'm too awkward to be willing to be the guy that has to disrupt their convenience then go round fixing it if it goes wrong lol
  9. Before you say it, no, I can't use an ethernet cable even though its obviously the best solution. I live in a student house and I can't make the necessary adjustments to the house like nailing hooks into the walls and drilling holes for the cable to run from the router to my bedroom. That said, I was thinking if I could get a cable that could extend an antenna (currently using a TP link card inside my PC) to be placed near my door so that the signal is stronger and the antenna faces the router. Is there anything out there that could do the trick?
  10. I've already built my own good gaming PC but now that I have my GTX 1070, the Radeon 7850 I was using as a placeholder has no more purpose. While clearing out my room I found my old i7 latitude e6530 laptop and thought if I could feasibly use a pcie converter and other such cables as well as a new case to create a new PC. Anyone have any experience with this type of project or know any good sites or threads for it?
  11. I think e3 can get away with that since its a bigger, more established forum but this is the first LTX so getting as many numbers as possible makes more sense. Plus honestly, who cares if some kids get really excited over tech, we've all been there and it doesn't harm anyone. Maybe if LTX begins to grow and become a significant event in the tech calendar like e3 they can afford to be more selective. ...e3 also has some lewd cosplays that are probably not what parents want kids seeing!
  12. Yeah haha, game actually looks great (considering its age) only thing is the animations will look a bit janky I imagine but I don't mind that. Tbh it's only really some gameplay aspects like the combat system thats an issue I want modded. But I'm the type of guy that makes a small job into a project for no reason
  13. So I've built my first PC and it's awesome having this much freedom with gaming and my computer. Only thing is that due to shortages my GTX 1070 8GB still hasn't been dispatched and I expect it will be at least a few more weeks before it is (I ordered on the 1st of July). But in the meantime, I have an old Radeon 7850 1GB I've been using until my beast arrives. Tried playing Morrowind (first time) but like I expected it's just too dated for me to really enjoy. I think modding it will be quite fun too but if I start now will 1GB be enough for a 2017 modlist or will I need to wait for the 1070?
  14. I have both a Dell Keyboard and an ~2008 era Mac keyboard and while the dell fits the aesthetic and colour scheme of my build better, I like the mac keyboard in that it feels premium and is similar to my MacBook's so switching back and forth isn't too bad. Only problem is some of the keys don't really match like the delete key doesn't work. I've installed Keyboard Layout Creator but it says those keys are "unassignable" and only lets me change the letter and number keys. Is there a way of being able to change any individual key I want on Win10?
