Now is finally working! thanks for helping me fix it. it was probably i set the pump to variable mode before which messed up the fans entirely to adjust on the software.
at least now flicking between quiet and balanced works thats what i need simplicity between two modes on CorsairLINK. rarely would i need to go on performance as i'm not overclocking just yet [well i will experiment later when i get customed to the new rig ins/outs]

So just to confirm, the H100i v2 does not come with a Y-splitter, there are two fan headers (4-pin) coming off the pump block itself, and there is a 3-pin header for the pump that goes into the motherboard.

You definitely don't want to plug your AIO fans into the motherboard especially with a 7700K + ASUS board. The ASUS BIOS at the moment has a critical temperature of 75 degrees on the CPU temp, and will force any fan connected to a header controlled by the CPU temperature up to 100% if your CPU reaches that temp.

It is not unusual for the 7700K to hit those temperatures, so your fans are being ramped to 100% by the motherboard. With the H100i v2, there are fan connectors on the pump itself and the fan speed is controlled by the water temperature instead of the CPU temp (in watercooling, no sense to increase the fan speed if the water is not hot).

If by Y-splitter you mean the splitter coming off the pump, then you need to set the fan curve of the header to max power on DC mode (100% all the time) so that the H100i v2's pump would actually spin. Then you can setup your fan curve in corsair link, linking it to the temperature read by the H100iv2's water temperature.

The thing is it depends on what games you play, and what resolution and potential frame rates [standard 60? or highs into the 144s?]

essentially some games can be quite VRAM demanding. TechDeals did a great video which I've watched, you should check it out below if you need a bit of clarification as he spoke most details...

If it was in for me, I'd say the 1060 3GB would look like the better deal as 110$ more for extra 3GB vram isn't justifiable. but back to the first question you have to answer that for my answer to be quite definitive.

Volta isn't coming soon. Vega performs like a 1080 and costs the same, but it draws WAY more power.

    Get the 1080

I find out of the box frequencies is kinda misleading because they all boost way higher than their advertised clock speeds with gpu boost 3.0 so you really only need to care about proper cooling which basically all gtx 1080tis do.

xsimplyjosh reacted to DocSwag in What's the best GTX 1080ti?
Probably something like the ftw3 hybrid if you're looking at out of the box performance. If you're willing to do custom water cooling probably an Asus Poseidon. If you're willing to do ln2 probably a kingpin. The best air cooled card is the strix.

The thing with 1080 tis though is they all oc around the same regardless of cooler or pcb unless you go into ln2 territory. So that $700 SC2 is going to do just as well as that $850 ftw3 hybrid. So really the most I would go for is a ftw3, with something like an sc2 being enough for most (choosing evga for the warranty).

Single 1080ti will give you a lot better performance than CF RX580.

xsimplyjosh reacted to Brooksie359 in 580 crossfire and AMD freesync vs 1080ti
I would never suggest getting two slower gpus over a single faster gpu as not all games support crossfire or sli and in some cases even have worse performance when using crossfire or sli. If you want a freesync monitor then get rx vega as it is coming out in like 2 weeks.

You want the single best GPU instead of Xfire or SLI. They just introduce more issues and potential problems. 1080ti would be your best route.

Always one highend GPU over two midrange GPUs. Multi GPU support in games is sketchy, especially on new releases, with proper working SLI/Crossfire support being patched in later, if it ever comes. I'd wait to see what Vega is like, looks like it won't touch the 1080ti for performance, but combined with a Freesync monitor may still give a better experience versus a 1080ti without a Gsync monitor.

and i am kinda content with the strix 2.5 slot, it's not as bad as i thought it would be. don't know why people make a big deal out of the slot, its just more heatsink for better cooling capacity afterall it does what it does, hovers around 60-65*c most of the time at full load so im happy.

I agree with you 1440p is the best spot at the moment for hi refresh rate n frame/rate 1440p144~165hz gaming. without being too expensive at least*. so you get the best of both worlds in a relatively manageable resolution that wont break the system... unlike 4k

Even the 1080ti which i have  is touching most AAA games at 144fps on 1440p on ultra and for a single card to perform at that calibre is amazing, and will be for the next few years to come.

maybe when 4k becomes cheaper and when a single graphics cards is capable of exceeding 100fps on most games maybe i may switch... but for now i'm content w/ 1440p
