  1. Yes i did change exchange the cable. I used the old one i never had problems with, some other cable i found lying around, and even bought a new one. The connection from my computer to the wall shouldnt be the problem. I have no way to get to the cable in the wall, so i didnt exchange that. It worked perfectly fine with my old computer tho. Wouldnt mind investing in a network tester to isolate the problem. Can you recomment anything specific? I have no idea if there is something i have to pay attention to when chosing a network tester. Until now i didnt even know those existed.
  2. I just encountered the problem again, so i tried to log into the router by entering its adress into the browser. Connecting was not possible, just like with any normal website. I forgot testing the internet connection with some other device, so I will have to do that next time. However, since the problem only happens when starting my computer, and never while it's running, i dont think that the router is causing any problem (at least none that would affect other devices at the same time). Especially since it didnt happen with my old computer, or any other device as far as i know, at all. My setup is rather simple. The ethernet cable goes from my computer to the wall, from where another cable leads directly into the router. No other switches or anything along the way. So, what does this mean? I guess there has to be a problem between the router and my computer, but i'm confused about what might cause it. It shouldnt be the hardware, since i already exchanged the cable and the motherboard. But since i'm running a fresh installation of windows and installed the drivers, i dont know what could cause the problem software-sided. Any ideas on what i should do to isolate the source of the problem?
  3. Hello, a few weeks ago i opened a post about the same topic, but since new informations are available and i wanted to explain it more clearly, i've made a new one. So, i build a new computer. I'm running windows 10 and got the msi z270 gaming pro carbon motherboard. The problem is that sometimes when i start the computer, i dont get connected to the internet. When clicking on the problem, windows tells me that the ethernet cable is not connected. Obviously it is. I exchange the cable without success. Recently i RMA'ed the motherboard and since i didnt have the problem for the last ~10+ restarts i thought it was gone. However, when i just started the computer i did not have an internet connection. As i said the problem seems to occur rather randomly. With up to 10+ restarts between the problem happening, it is not a very frequent problem either. Sometimes i can get it to work when going to the ethernet settings in windows and clicking on change adapter settings and then deactivating and activating the connection a couple of times. Since i already switched out the cable and the motherboard itself, what else could it be? I guess if it's not the hardware, then it should be something software related? I'm using the same router and the same plug in the wall to access it as i did with my old computer. Until i got my new computer i didnt have any problems related to my internet connection. So the router and cables in the wall should be working fine too. Could it be something IP related? I believe to remember that my dad had to give my smartphone a fixed IP adress for some reason.. but that was ages ago so i dont really remember what the problem was. At this point i'm really frustrated and dont know what to do anymore. I would be really glad if somebody could help me. Thanks in advance, Fabian
  4. So.. anybody else got any ideas? How probable is it that this is a problem caused by the motherboard? I can still return it for a few days.
  5. I've never had problems with the network itself on my old computer, so i believe we can exclude that. I dont have other computers that access the internet through a lan connection, however if the router were the problem, then wlan should also not work at the same time, right? I know for a fact that at least wlan does work. I do not have a PCIe network card. Edit: I could borrow a laptop and connect it via another lan cable to the internet. I could further use a switch to let both of them run through the same connection at the wall. Would that test help to exclude the network availability itself as the problem?
  6. Hello guys, i recently build a new computer. I'm using the MSI Z270 Carbon as a motherboard and a fresh installation of Windows 10, 64bit as the operating system. Sometimes when i start my computer, i dont have an internet connection. I say sometimes.. because it's seemingly random and only happens rather rarely. About one in 5-10 starts i'd say. I can not intentionally reproduce the problem. Informations about the problem: - Windows problem analysis tells me that the cable is not / loosely inserted - When i restart the computer it's gone again (probably since it doesnt always happen when starting) - The same happens when i pull out the cable. Most of the times it does not reconnect automatically. If i remember right, it did reconnect once tho. I can test this further if you want me to. - I can get the internet connection to work without a restart if i play around with the windows ehternet adapter and turn it off and on again, wait a bit and repeat - until it reconnect. So far this worked every time. Sometimes first try, sometimes i have to turn it off and on a few times.. What i tried so far: - Because of what windows says when the problem occurs, i tried a different cable. Problem still occured (and ive never had problems with the first cable either). I still bought a new cable to try it, since mine are all very old. - Drivers should be up to date. Downloaded chipset and "Intel Network Drivers" from https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/Z270-GAMING-PRO-CARBON.html#down-driver&Win1064 I hope i posted this in the right section, since it might be a problem with windows instead of the motherboard. I just dont know. I've never had such a problem. If you need any informations, i will do my best to provide them. English is not my native language and i'm no expert either, so please try to be specific when giving advice or telling me to check something. Thanks in advance, Fabian
  7. Oh, thanks for the advice. However, if what you said is true, then using the same settings that ran at 1480 mhz without antialiasing, with 8x anti aliasing should NOT result in the graphics card clocking at 1961 (like in games), should it? But thats what happens.. so .. i'm confused. Edit, To make things more clear: Furmark 1440p 0x anti aliasing = runs at 1450-1480 mhz, using ~<80% power Furmark 1440p 8x anti aliasing = runs at 1961 mhz using ~90% power
  8. Ok, i seemingly just overreacted because of Furmark showing silly values. In games it went to 1962 and 11008. Thanks for showing me wheremy mistake was. Should have just checked in a game to get a more solid result Technically this solves my problem. I'd still like to know why Furmark would only use 1480 mhz, especially if it is "way more intense than you'll ever see"? Shouldnt it use as much of the available performance as it can then? Sorry for causing you guys troubles over such a silly mistake.
  9. @Jurrunio I am using GPU Tweak II. According to that, in OC mode, the card should run at 1700 gpu / 11000 memory. I just found out that the card actually goes higher than 1480 mhz, when i increase the anti-aliasing in furmark. With anti aliasing maxed at 8x, the card reaches a seemingly healthy 1961 mhz gpu clock. However the memory clock is still at 5500 mhz. Is there something im missing? Shouldnt the card try to use its full potential to reach the highest fps it can, even without anti aliasing? Or is furmark just not a good tool to test the performance? Edit: @DocSwag ok, what other tool would you suggest?
  10. Hi guys, i just build a new computer and got myself a gtx 1080 ti strix oc. I'm new to overclocking and so on, but the card is advertised to run at 1590-1700 (depending on the mode) mhz out of the box. And most people report seeing clocks of over 2000 mhz with slight overclocking. Using furmarks gpu stress test, my card seemingly runs at only 1480 mhz and memory at only 5500. Why? Is there something i'm overlooking, like a bios setting for example, or is my card not working properly? Drivers are up to date (latest in geforce experience), but other than that i'm a total noob and you should take nothing for granted Thanks in advance, Fabian
  11. Hello, i'm new here so i hope i'm doing everything right. I'm trying to provide as much information as possible and hope that it's not too much so that people wont read it. Also, english is not my native language, so forgive me any weird phrasings or errors. I just build my new computer. You will find the components used below. Since it was the first build i did all by myself, i ran into a few problems here and there, but nothing i couldnt figure out. I'll list a few of the problems i had, leading up to the one i currently have. I list the others because they may be related in some way. Technically you dont have to read them, but it might help. ------------------------------------ Components Motherboard: MSI Z270 Gaming Pro Carbon Graphics Card: Strix GTX 1080 TI OC Processor: Intel i7 7700k RAM: Trident Z DDR4-3200 (RGB) Case: Phanteks Enthoo Evolv ATX Power: Corsair RM850i (850W for efficiency curve and 0 RPM mode) SSD's: Samsung 840 Series (128 GB), Samsung 840 EVO (1 TB) ------------------------------------ 1. When i first started the pc, it told me something along the lines of "Over current detected, shutting down in 15 seconds to protect your system". After googling the problem, i found out that one possible reason for this was a faulty USB device, and when testing i realised it only happened when i plugged in my mouse. (Tried different ports, different combinations, different usb devices. Only happened with the mouse.) I hope nothing was damaged by this, but if it was that dangerous, the MB wouldnt wait 15 seconds to shut the pc down, right? 2. I used my old SSDs with windows 7 on them. I dont know if you can/should do that, but it didnt really work anyways. Keyboard and mouse were recognized, but everything i could use to get the drivers on my computer (USB stick, temporarily added internal cd drive, internet connection) would not be recognized. My friend then told me it might be that the motherboard is incompatible with Windows 7. Whether that was the case or not, i backed up my files and upgraded (as in, a completely new installation) to Windows 10. This "fixed" the problem since now internet connection and usb sticks and so on were all picked up. By the way, since the CD that came with the motherboard told me that it "Failed to load hardware monitor driver" and i didnt find a proper solution online, i just installed the drivers from their website (since they are probably more up to date anyways) from https://msi.com/Motherboard/support/Z270-GAMING-PRO-CARBON.html#down-driver&Win10 64. However, since i had no idea what i actually needed, i installed every driver i could (some told me they arent working for my system). 3. This one drove me mad and i'm not quite sure if it's gone or not. (I use two SSDs. A small one, C, where Windows is installed on. And a large one, D, where data/games and so on are installed on) So, my build was finished and everything worked well. I installed the drivers for the msi board and went on to install a couple of programs. Everything worked, even after multiple restarts. After then being away for a couple of minutes or so and turning the computer on again, i landed in the bios and C wasnt being picked up anymore. I figured that maybe the SATA cable i used had a defect and switched the cables of my two SSDs. After that i was able to normally boot into Windows as before, just that D wasnt showing anymore, which confirmed my hypothesis that the cable was broken or loose. I turned the computer off and tried to push the cables in better. The next time i turned it on again, the problem was still there. For some reasons i dont remember, i restarted a couple of times. Then i realised that D appeared again, seemingly without any reason since i didnt change anything. At this point the theory of a broken cable still seemed very plausible, until i noticed that now my internet connection didnt work anymore. Windows analysis just told me the cable is not plugged in / broken / loose. I didnt think that was the case, but i changed to another cable anyways and the problem was still there. From now on, when turning the PC on i EITHER had the problem with the internet connection, or the second SSD (D) not showing up. Only one of these problems, and always only one of them (even tho, i only tested a couple of times, so this isnt a definitive statement). This confused me a lot and for the first time i considered that the mainboard might have a defect. All this happened yesterday evening/night. After i turned the computer on today.. both problems "were gone". Since i dont believe in hardware fixing itself, i thought that, to exclude software issues, i'll reinstall Windows 10 again. When i tried to install Windows, it told me that it could not install Windows on that partition (both of them actually). I then googled it and found out that it seemingly has something to do with the way they are formatted. I then looked into the bios of my motherboard and found out that it was set to "Legacy + Uefi" and Windows 8.1/10 WHQL Support was turned off. I turned the latter on and changed to Uefi only (since i read that, when the pc is set up correctly, that's what you should do.) After using the windows setup to format and delte the partitions and create new ones, it worked. So now i installed and updated windows and installed (only) the chipset drivers from the msi homepage. To this point in time (of me writing this) the problems mentioned in 3 did not appear again. However, since they seemed kind of random before i'm not confident that they are actually gone.. which is why i am writing this. For now i dont seem to have problems. I'll turn the pc off for a while soon and see what happens when i turn it on again. 4. This is the current problem having and it might be related to 3 in some ways, which is why i mentioned it. Since i was very suspicious about the problems being gone, i pulled the internet cable out. Obviously, the internet was gone. Mind blown^^ When i plugged it back in however, it wasnt picked up and Windows told me the same thing again (Cable not connected, loose or broken). After restarting the computer however, it worked again. I thought that maybe a driver is missing, so i installed the "Intel Network Drivers" from the msi page, but the problem was still there. To summarize: At this point, whenever i turn on my computer, and do not pull out the internet cable, it works as it should. At least right now (seeing how random 3. behaved). If we can fix the problem of the internet cable not being detected again after being pulled out i will be happy. My biggest fear is that the motherboard might be broken, which is why i included problems 1-3. Maybe i just messed up some settings in the bios, without knowing. I hope somebody here has an idea what the problem might be. Any helpful comments and solutions are welcome. If you need more informations, please tell me. Thanks in advance, Fabian Update 13.6.17 @18:00: No SSD related problems so far. Internet connection seemingly sometimes, but not every time, gone when starting the computer. Update 14.6.17 @03:00 So far no more problems. Also, when i just pulled the internet cable and reconnected, i instantly had internet again. I'm a bit confused.. i didnt install any drivers or change anything else. How can behavior be different now lol? You can still feel free to answer any comment you like. Update 15.6.17 @6:00 It seems the problems of SSD and Ethernet connection are not related after all. Had no issues with the SSDs anymore so far, however, sometimes when i start the computer the internet is still gone. Manually deactivating and activating the ethernet adapter in windows 10 solves this problem, but i feel like this should happen automatically, or the problem should not happen at all.
