  1. Oh okay good to know, i completely miss understood the difference, I'll do more reasearch into it before deciding on anything. Thank you for the advice!
  2. I might have this completely wrong but is there a reason ECC wouldn't work? Motherboard and CPU seem to support it and TrueNAS seems to support this? but yeah okay good to know! Ill probs not use it if its too hard to find for a good price got it okay that's good to know, I'll do more research into it! Thank you!
  3. Hi There! I am from Australia and I am trying to get rid of the 11TB worth of external hard drives me and my family are using right now and have extra for the future, using this primarily for backups, photos, etc. I recently upgraded my CPU and have an r5 1600 lying around so I wanted to build a NAS around this, my current parts I am looking at are as below, probs gonna buy as much as I can second hand to save money apart from the drives and was wondering if anyone had any advice on going around this or anything I should consider? Looking at running RAID 5 with 3 drives to start with and adding more down the line (up to 8). Mobo: Asus TUF GAMING B450M-PRO II mATX (2 x pcie 16x slots to possibly add a GPU down the line and a HBA card to expand the 4 sata ports on the mobo down the line and an extra m.2 slot to add a cache at some point) RAM: Some sort of cheap 2x4 gb DDR4 ecc ram Storage: Western Digital Blue SN570 250gb - boot drive 3 x IronWolf 8TB Case: Fractal Design Define R5 PSU: EVGA 700 GQ (8 individual sata connectors) Also, if I were to setup truenas now, how hard would it be to change it down the line e.g. unraid?
  4. Cool that look alot better that what i had. What is a good keyboard, mouse and headset
  5. So as the title says this is gonna be a 1700AUD pc build for one of my friends who wants to properly get into pc gaming. It is mainly going to be used gaming and being a general family comp when he's not using it. It needs to be a full gaming comp with peripherals and a monitor. This is what I have I have so far but I think it can be better: PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant Type Item Price CPU AMD - Ryzen 5 2600 3.4GHz 6-Core Processor $248.00 @ Shopping Express Motherboard ASRock - B450 Pro4 ATX AM4 Motherboard $139.00 @ Scorptec Memory Team - T-Force Delta RGB 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory $209.00 @ BudgetPC Storage SanDisk - SSD PLUS 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive $58.00 @ Umart Storage Seagate - Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive $81.00 @ PLE Computers Video Card Asus - GeForce GTX 1060 6GB 6GB ROG STRIX Video Card $379.00 @ Umart Case Phanteks - Eclipse P350X (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case $109.00 @ PCCaseGear Power Supply Cooler Master - MasterWatt 550W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply $89.00 @ Mwave Australia Monitor Asus - VG248QE 24.0" 1920x1080 144Hz Monitor $299.00 @ Umart Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts Total $1611.00 Generated by PCPartPicker 2018-10-29 19:23 AEDT+1100
  6. Thank you for that, damn i didnt know headphone rabbit hole went that deep. Would this be ok as the final build? https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/Z4NQGG
  7. He likes it closed closed because he is mainly going to use it for gaming and big ears
  8. What would be a good headset with the remaining budget
  9. He should be able to use wired but the card is so in case he ever needs to use wifi he can.
  10. Mainly low-noise and functionality but he would like it to look decent
  11. Thanks for the suggestions. The wireless card supports bluetooth, thats the main reason i chose that one. Also the optical drive is already external. Is there any real reason getting a better cooler because stock cooler does do a good job? and what other cases would you suggest?
  12. Like the title says this build is for a friend and the budget is 2100 AUD. It is mainly going to be used for gaming. He needs a monitor keyboard and mouse. This is the build I made for him and I wanted to know if there was anything that could be improved on it, https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/24RL7W.
