The difference is not worth the upgrade. If i were you, i would wait for the rumoured 8-core intel and Z390 platform.. jumping from 4 core to 8 core, you will see bigger improvement.

Dont get 8100.. the first launch will only have z370 board.. i3 for a Z motherboard is a total waste.

components will only be more and more efficient. Even SLI probably need 750W/850W only? Unless you want to use this as mining rig.

I suggest you check the efficiency graph of this power supply. Your system might be underutilized and drawing a lot of power from your wall.

Why would you want to upgrade your PC? It is quite high end for your listed usage.

Totally not worth it for you to upgrade to ryzen. It will be just a sidegrade.

I would recommend you for zen2 or next cannonlake or whatever they call.

Maybe try overclock your cpu if you havent.

I would suggest go for 1200 + 1080 Ti. Since it is a HTPC, you wouldnt multitask much, CPU doesnt really matter much in 4k gaming.

Rmb, 1080 ti is the key for 4k gaming. If you want smooth 4k with very high settings above 60fps, this is the card you need to go for.

1200 overclocked to 3.9-4.0ghz should able to process around 70~90fps. 1080 ti can process 60~80fps in max settings. So at the end bottleneck is still at your graphic card.

Most likely no. Motherboard do not affect performance. It is just about quality and feature.

I might reccomend trying out a Ryzen (3 or 5) system if you want an all-purpose PC.

Go for R5 1600. 7700k is overkill for your graphic card. Many games will be bottlenecked on your graphic card.

Strix B350-F is really good, but a bit more expensive than other B350 board. If you have the budget, go for this, otherwise go for other non-rgb board such as prime or asrock board.

Hi OP, just get 7820x and dont listen to those guys that ask you to change parts that you could not change, or reluctant to change.

Be happy and feel no regrets.

7820x has better performance than 1700 after OC. Just make sure you can handle all the side effects of getting x299 platform, including getting flamed here in the forum.

Yes, 1700 is better value than 7820x. If you have not buy anything and is neutral in brands, I would always suggest going for 1700.

I also like it so much. First I was between this one and the Aorus K5, but I kinda looked away from that one because I read terrible opinions about it (and I'm not a fan of the Aorus 5 white theme, TBH), so the ROG Strix seems more appealing to me as it's equally nice and it has better enthusiast-grade components, though it costs a couple bucks more. I think I can wait a week or two to see if it gets back in stock, though I've already been waiting for a while now to move forward in my Ryzen build.

Even me myself is willing to give up some feature and paying a higher price for that look. So my recommendation is buy it XD.

Because appearance is very subjective, its just that my taste is into this.

Probably 1700, but if you want to have better graphic card within the same budget, then maybe 1600 is sufficient for you, then you can buy a better graphic card.

Edit: maybe you can list down all the parts you have chosen so far in pcpp, and we can help you in overall and still within the budget.

aha i think i got your point now, u mean LGA 1151 is already old enough to be replaced soon by a new socket, so buying LGA 1151 or 1150 doesnt really matter in the future, thanks i really didnt think about that.

I just finished writing a customer complaint of some sort which I should receive an email reply to within the next 24 hours. Thank flipping goodness I do not require a order number/RMA as I did not actually know I was getting the board as my father allowed me to buy it completely unexpected  please do wish me luck as I am really hoping the reply is good as if I get dis motherboard working 980ti SLI HERE I COME!!

thank you you very much for your reply! I am really grateful for your suggestion since I had mostly just presumed that without warranty I would be left out in the cold.

You should contact them even when there is no more warranty.

IF they have good customer service, they would at least help you troubleshoot, find out which part is faulty (since they have extra cpu, ram, power supply and etc). And perhaps tell you how much you have to pay if you want to repair it.

Because somebody prefer to have a better looking motherboard. Ofcourse the features they offer as well.

You can know it when OP chose NZXT over Corsair cooler.

And getting better quality or brand can help your mobo last longer. Example, a cheaper one can last 3years while a premium one can last 5years. Its an example though.

Probably just you but based on what I saw and read from anandtech, linustechtips, guru3d, techpowerup, hardware unboxed, digitalfoundry, tom's hardware, gamer's nexus shows the 7700K beating the Ryzen 7 lineup in 144hz gaming. Even on stock 7700k vs OC'd Ryzen 7. Kaby Lake in general just has insane IPC compared to Ryzen, helps a lot when trying push as much frames as you can.

    I too would recommend a 7700K for 144hz gaming.

I dont see anything other than that G4560 worth putting in, R5 is totally overkill. Even 4GB of RAM would be sufficient. Ofcourse 8GB will do better if you have more budget.
