  1. Even though it is not in the compatibility list on the MB manu. website? I'm looking right now at the ASUS MBs.
  2. I just bought a set of memory last month to upgrade my computer without realizing it was DDR4 ram meant for x99 motherboards and my current motherboard is only DDR3. I'm looking at upgrading to the Z270 MBs with a 7700k CPU, but the memory is not on the compatibility list. Can I use the memory even though it is not specifically compatible with the MB or do I need to send the memory back and get a set that is compatible with the Z270 MB? The memory is a Corsair Dominator Platinum 4x8gb DDR4 2133Mhz set (CMD32GX4M4B2133C10). Thanks
  3. Thanks everyone for the advice. I think I have enough information to make a decision on my upgrades. I am actually thinking of upgrading my monitor to a 1440p 144hz since I will not be upgrading my MB and CPU and with an overall budget for computer components of $2500.00 USD I have a little leeway. For anyone wanting to see the progress of my new desk, I have attached a photo of the tabletop. I decided to buy a metal MB tray to keep the board away from the wood and hopefully prevent burning down my apartment. (I read various forums about wooden desks and this was a concern to a lot of the ppl - having potentially hot items in contact with flammable wood) I am forgoing the angled legs and will be building 2 cabinets under the desktop. Hopefully adding these photos is not a violation of the rules for this section.
  4. My current Monitor setup is an ASUS PB278Q 27" and is not 4K or 144hz. I usually play my games at 2560x1440.
  5. Didn't think about selling current hardware. Could be a possibility. I'm doing hard tubing b/c I don't have the space below the desktop to route the plastic tubing as I am building the desk as a 3 part modular desk with 2 cabinets below the desktop box. I'm not too worried about the future upgrade to the tubing.
  6. Hey Everyone, I built a computer several years ago and I want to do some upgrading. I watched Linus' Ultimate DIY PC desk build log and decided to build my own computer desk. I need some advice on whether to upgrade my motherboard and cpu. Here is my current build. Case: NZXT Switch 810 Motherboard: Asus ROG Maximus VII Hero CPU: Intel Core i7-4790k Memory: Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB memory kit (4x4) GPU: 2x - 3GB EVGA Nvidia GeForce GTX 780 in SLI Hard Drive: 1TB Seagate Barracuda HDD Solid State Drive: 128GB Toshiba SSD PSU: EVGA Supernova 1300 G2 Cooling: Liquid cooling on CPU/GPU/Memory -------------------------------------------------------------------- My current plan is to upgrade the 2 Video Cards, Memory, and to maybe add a second 1TB HDD. I will be water cooling all the components and doing my first (and hopefully not problematic) hard tube system. My question for the forum is whether I should upgrade the Motherboard and CPU as well as the Video Cards and Memory, or stick with my current plan to upgrade just the GPU and Memory. I have already put a lot of money into building the desk and I would like to minimize the cost of the upgrade which is why I am just looking at the Video Cards and Memory. My main use of the computer is for gaming. I don't do any streaming or video editing. If I were to upgrade everything, I would probably limit the cost to 2500 since I have probably already spent about 1000 on the desk alone. Linus and the gang made it look "easy" when they built their desk. Thanks a bunch.
