  1. The differences greatly differ depending on which you are comparing. Depending on what was released most recently, a cheaper one may have better low-light, but worse autofocus because it's newer but it's still not a $4k camera. Then, you have some that are "somewhat" designed for different uses. A D810 for example has a ton of megapixels, often times great for large prints, lots of cropping, etc. But, for many, a 610 (or 750) would be perfectly fine, and an 810 a waste of money that would be better spent on a D5 if they wanted an upgrade. Yes, Jared can be annoying - but he compares a bunch of Nikon full-frame cameras here and is pretty down to earth: Off topic: I will miss Alwin, always enjoyed his "hard truth" comments based on facts and experience. Seemed like he really brought alot of clarity to the Photography subforum.
  2. Unless you want to learn how to use a DSLR for the Art of Photography, no. Point-and-shoots do not replace flagship phone cameras these days. Even if you do, ~400 is about the "used DSLR with cheap lens" cost.
  3. Thanks! My wife and I are ironing out a good mix of our two styles of editing. So this is intentional, but we are still ironing it out.
  4. 10MBps sounds about right then for your connection, since 80Mbps (little b, bits per second) is 10MBps (big B, bytes per second). Not sure how steam was downloading at 70-80MBps since that is technically impossible with your internet connection
  5. Mine is downloading at ~ 10MBps as well. However I only have an 80Mbps internet connection so that is exactly what I should expect. It also wouldn't surprise me if they did limit for a free game like the Crew, since so many people will be downloading right now. at 10MBps it's playable in 5 minutes or so. How fast of internet connection do you have? If you get 80MBps in steam, you must have a 600+ Mbps connection or maybe gigabit?
  6. What's the error? Generally, the server is very easy to set up initially - assuming you don't care about crazy permissions and other items. The hard part is bypassing firewall and port forwarding that trips many people up.
  7. The leading lines ate leading over and away from the bike, so my eyes are actually first drawn past the bike. Maybe re position lower so you see the grated overpass floor lead to the bike, that would also remove some of the metalwork from appearing through the bike. Also, the bike is blurry. I can't tell if it's out of focus or if you had too slow of shutter speed and shaking. I do like the coloration though and what you are going for. by Ethan Gollehon, on Flickr
  8. Pretty self explanitory. Is it normal for groups to not look at the camera consistently, even when asked? Does it vary greatly? Do you check shots in-camera before moving on to another scene, and how do you kindly tell people that we need to take the same pose/image again because someone wasn't looking? My wife and I have been booking some shoots and I've noticed that a VERY small % of my shots has everyone actually looking at me. It's fine, but sometimes its so close to being "well, that entire setting was worthless". Pic for attention, not so much example as the relaxed look is purposeful. JP by Ethan Gollehon, on Flickr
  9. The 15MP requirement could be because of their want to possibly print the photos in larger format? Or maybe that's their way of cutting out the possibility of folks bringing older gear? Who knows... A used body and kit lens - you can get a D3300 (24.2MP, Released in 2014) for the 400 or less from a reputable place like BH Photo. This would include The camera, kit lens, Caps, Battery/charger, cables and 90 day warranty. For canon you can get a T4i or SL1 for similar price.
  10. Hey All, This morning I clicked to "update and restart" before rushing out the door to return so photo gear rentals. I come back 2 hours later to a black screen and cursor. So, I did a hard reset and now it gets to windows logo and loading screen, and then proceeds to a very low-resolution loading dots/wheel and my cursor: Safe mode works fine, I (apparently) do not have any restore points so I cannot try that, but I did find that KB3189866 was installed today (9/19). Keyboard does nothing (that I can tell) and it does go to sleep, both by itself after 10 minutes or if I tap the power button. I'm just not sure what to try next? I do have a system image from yesterday that I can restore, but any other ideas?
  11. Hey Guys, What do people use for online galleries, specifically ones used to provide clients access to their gallery both for proofing and ongoing access. Ability to order prints directly from site would be a plus, but not necessary. I am also very interested in self-hosted options, and options that can serve as a main site/portfolio as well. I already own server space and domains. Please do not recommend squarespace. I understand they are great and may end up using them - but looking for other options considering I already pay for server space for a couple other websites and don't need yet another subscription if I can avoid it.
  12. One of the key items, is to figure out your pricing, and then have a very good reason for why they should use you, instead of buying a prebuilt from Best Buy. As for marketing - You will not be able to beat BestBuy's prices, so when that question undoubtedly comes up - have a good reason as to why someone should go with you versus the cheap dell. That's your marketing plan - give a good reason as to why someone should spend extra on you. Getting folks to pay is easy enough - Just tell them what it will cost, wether that is a flat $50 build fee, or if it's a percentage. If you have already convinced them that it is a good idea to use you versus BestBuy, then getting them to pay isn't that big of a deal.
  13. Alot can change based on budget. Least expensive is a camcorder connected to a laptop, a few hundred dollars. what you have listed above is in the multiple thousands. So I would recommend really going over with them what their expectations are and give them examples of barebones setups up to higher-end multi camera setups, with the pros and cons of each.
  14. What type of wireless AC card does your laptop have? If you do not have an AC1900 capable wireless card, you will not get AC1900 speeds. 5GHz can also be more affected by walls and other interference than 2.4, so, you could be getting a bad AC signal but good N signal at your mom's.
  15. I've always just used distilled water.
  16. Agreed. If I can get a replacement without sending in the whole AIO unit, I will likely upgrade anyway at some point. But, y'know, paid for a working item so I'm gonna warranty it if I can
  17. Hey All, I have an H100iGTX with one fan that rattles quite badly when it ramps up due to heat. Video: https://goo.gl/photos/2orgu8xahjTzdBi57 I have never had corsair fans in this orientation before, they have always been on top of the radiator sucking into the case. Since going with this new case, it has been rattling since about the 6 month mark (and generally goes away for awhile). It's pretty constant now, though. Question: It is still under warranty and I have filed a claim - and am waiting on a reply - does corsair send just a replacement fan? or will I need to waste my time pulling the whole AIO unit out and sending it in? If the latter - do corsair fans often have this issue in this orientation? If getting a broken item fixed requires sending in the entire AIO unit, it's not worth my time, and will just buy a couple of noctua or phanteks fans.
  18. I personally have not, as I have been out of the loop a bit since I just got married and work is insanely busy this time of year.
  19. I actually think the subreddit for ms software swap has instructions/links for ISOs as well in case the link doesn't work. I've used reddit and got a bad code once, contacted seller and sent a new code within a few minutes. Edit: yes it does have additional links. lower on the right side.
  20. Redding and Kinguin work fine, not many bad experiences have come from that. But yes, it's expensive, but when you think about it - $120 for the thing that powers your system and provides hundreds and thousands of hours of entertainment... worth it IMO when people drop that much on two games these days that one plays for a dozen hours.
  21. You can download windows 7 ISO from microsoft: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows7
  22. Oh yes, I know why - Poor thermal design Yeah, its blowing very hot even after idling for 2 minutes, so I guess I will give up on this project since I cannot easily see the CPU/GPU temperatures to know if it's going to cannibalize itself (again - this one has been fixed once before). Unlike what I am used to with PC components, where you can see exact temperatures and determine why the CPU is running hot, know what is too hot, and make changes to make it not so hot - you are stuck with the thermal design that the console creators chose for the most part. Will likely be getting some additional income soon - will probably just get a refurbished Xbox One for my Blu-ray/streaming/occasional couch gaming needs.
  23. Yes, likely I would install a switch so I could turn it back on/back up when actually gaming (once a month...lol). I'm actually more curious as to possible damage it would do.
  24. Hey All, I have an older 360 (probably first gen) that has very loud system fans. Loud, as in, the audio system has to be twice the normal loudness to hear. I primarily use it for netflix and amazon video. I have already installed a 120mm fan blowing into the case (common mod), But was wondering if I could turn off, or slow down the rear fans during streaming without harming the CPU/GPU?
  25. Just a query, I don't know if its common in the Tech community - but for me fishkeeping falls into the same realm as building computers - the same kind of satisfaction.
