  1. The reason for 24/7 vpn is usually just laziness. I play a good amount of gta online and feel like it's better to have a vpn for that for sure. The gaming PC usually has vpn installed and on. I have since uninstalled it, and reinstalled to no avail. It is currently uninstalled. As far as devices on the switch nothing else is affected. On this particular switch I have my hue bridge, a raspberry pi that doesn't get used much, as well as being a "distribution" center from 2 other switches in the house, and of course the Google wifi puck. If I plug in my laptop via Ethernet into this switch and turn wireless off internet is working no problem, as well as lan drive sharing functions. I am really at a loss and think it is some sort of windows or vpn issue, and will most likely reinstall and not install pia for the time being.
  2. Hello, I have had this problem a couple of times, and would like to try fix it as opposed to reinstalling windows, which is the only way I have fixed this issue previously. I usually use PIA as my personal VPN on at least my gaming PC. My network is 3 Google wifi mesh pucks that are wired to a 5 or 8 port switch. I have 2 desktop PC's that are wired, along with any other permanent hardware. Phones, tablets and laptops are all on wireless. I also use PIA on my second desktop that mostly acts as Plex server and media center for the living room. The problem is my gaming PC will every once in a while loose connection, and will say it's part of an unidentified network with no network access. Lan doesn't seem to work as my drive sharing doesn't work. It is only on my gaming PC, laptops and the Plex desktop PC are working fine with no problems at all. I have tried restarting the modem/routers, doing all the windows "fixes" I can think of such as flushing DNS, resetting up config (although I still have it to obtain IP and DNS automatically) uninstalling/reinstalling the lan adapter, I even tried to connect the gaming PC to a different switch with a different cable. As I said I have a baseless feeling that this is somehow an issue coming from my pia vpn, but really am at a loss for what to do next. I would like to avoid reinstalling windows again, it has been about a month since this happened last. PC specs are as follows: I7-7700k Asus strix z-270f Mobo using built in lan, 16gb ram, 256gb m.2 nvme boot drive, GTX 1080. If there is any other information that would be helpful or needed please let me know, otherwise I will be reinstalling tomorrow. Thanks for any input!
  3. Yeah I would remove the stock glass, and strip and paint one from ebay. I think i might give it a shot. If i do will post some pics.
  4. I have of course seen plenty of videos on making clear rear glass for whatever type of phone it is. Was wondering if anyone had tried painting the glass when done? I would assume it would have to be some sort of automotive style paint but i would think you could get some pretty incredible results! Was thinking about ordering a spare back glass for my v35 and maybe trying it myself.
  5. Tbh most of the games I play don't do well at 4k: world of warships for instance. But there are a few triple a titles I play. Most demanding would be gta 5. But yes I would be considering the TI's as the upper end of my price limit. Certainly cannot afford to go to Titans or anything like that. About $800 is going to be the max.
  6. No my monitor is not freesync/gsync capable so no preference there. I am really thinking of waiting for some more information to come out. I guess I am just hoping it's worth the wait, and looking for backup on that thought process. And please forgive me for my Intel sins, that's a case where I didn't wait for benchmarks and bought anyway. Not to say that I am disappointed.
  7. Hey guys, Wanted to get some input for the community. My brother is going away to college and he will be buying my current r9 390. I know we are days from Vega release and I have looked at some of the information that's out about it. I know we don't have any benchmarks on these cards yet so a comparison will be difficult. The question is, do I wait for Vega, or just take the plunge on a GTX 1080? I am a long time amd user so would prefer to stick with team red. Do you guys think we will be getting an actual high end contender with Vega? A little background. This will be on a i7 7700k cpu, Asus strix z270f Mobo, 16gb ram, and EVGA g1 850w PSU. Primary uses will be vr gaming with Oculus rift, and 4k gaming. Only have 1 4k monitor currently though.
  8. Well I am leaning towards 32gb of RAM. It's not often but I can get close to using all of it now. Since I don't plan on going sli/xfire I think 1000w PSU is a bit much. Thinking of going with the be quiet black Rock from the tier 1 PSU list. Is ryzen looking to be the best gaming platform?
  9. I have my current 3570k running at 4.5 stable. So yeah i suppose i will, nothing insane though. Can i get hold-down adapters for my nh-d14 to work on ryzen or would i need a new cooler?
  10. Hey everyone, The time has come to upgrade the ivy bridge system i have. First of all my budget is $1200, and i live in US. My current system consists of: i5 3570k 16gb DDR3 Vengance LP Asus p8 Z77 r9 390x Various SSD's, and HDD's some thermaltake 650w psu. inside a Cooler Master HAF 912 case. I will be trying to accomplish 2 things with this upgrade. I will be trying to create a Media Center PC, as well as upgrading my main gaming PC. And that's what this systems primary use will be gaming, i play a lot of games but at this time it is mostly; GTAV, World of Warships, DayZ standalone, Cities Skylines, etc. Besides gaming, a lot of video watching mostly in 4k, as well as video compressing for mobile use, and general web browsing, light office work. I currently am running 2 1080 monitors, and use a 4k tv for watching shows, although it is not on most of the time. I do plan on upgrading to at least one larger 4k monitor at some point in the next year or so. One of the major questions i am asking myself is if i should buy a more media center styled case to put my old system in and reuse the HAF912 for my gaming rig, or make the HAF work in the living room (would have to hide it behind tv stand somehow, but is not a very good looking case anyway). I will be looking to upgrade these parts: CPU RAM MOBO PSU Possibly case? and same with case fans. I would like to reuse my Noctua NH-D14 on the new system.I will not be looking to upgrade monitors at this time, same with peripherals. As I said i do not need to worry about SSD's or HDD's. I also have a copy of Windows i will be using. I will also be carrying the r9 390x over and dont plan on upgrading that for at least a couple of years. Thank you everyone for your help, and will be happy to answer any questions. I know i forgot stuff but hopefully didn't leave anything important out.
  11. Mabey try the amazon fire TV? Pretty pricey though.
  12. Hulu has more television, but a lot of it is asian game shows, and english reality shows. I use Hulu for stuff that is currently on tv, and watch it the next day. They have most popular shows, and with plus you usually get the majority of the episodes available to watch. Keep in mind even if you buy the plus subscription you still have to watch the commercials. Netflix has way more movies, although they do have a ton of tv shows, and new seasons seem to be added around the time they are available on dvd. Orange is the new black, house of cards, and arrested development are a few of my favorite shows, definitely worth a look. You can look around at what you watch most and see where it is available (amazon, netflix, hulu). Another thing to keep in mind is with a Prime account you also get the glorious benefit of 2 day shipping. They have a lot of shows, however I find their apps, and the interface on the site to be not the easiest to use. They all have their pro's and con's which is why it is hard to recommend just one service.
  13. Check out the Buffalo Airstation extreme AC 1750. It's $120 for the version without ddwrt installed. From what I understand you can easily install it, although that will void the warranty. I got this because for the price I have been able to slightly futureproof my network (currently I only have 2 ac devices) but I will have that available as ac becomes more common. Secondly I was upgrading from a lynksys e1200, the range of the WiFi is amazing. I have to get about 30-40 ft away from it before I start loosing signal strength, and the internet is much snappier on all WiFi devices. Third pro which is becomming standard is the usb port. The nas solution buffalo has is quite good. It's not pretty but I was able to set it up easily and haven't had any problems yet. There are other routers that have better ui, and some with better range. But I feel like this unit is a good compromise of price and features. Edit:autocorrect making me look foolish.
  14. I have this problem, most often with BF4. From what little research i have done, it is your system running out of vRAM. There was no fix to get this message from showing up, although several had claimed that they were able to get rid of it, but from what i remember it was very long and messy and not guaranteed to work. I have learned to live with it unfortunately.
  15. Spent a little more than I thought. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3t1Kg LTT TOTAL: $177,939
