  1. Oh yeah. This build is a gift to a friend from myself and another friend of ours. He's currently on console, so the expectations are relatively low. My plan is to put a good spine in this build, meaning that he could update the GPU or CPU down the line and not have to start all over, hence why I am using an AM4 socket and a case that allows for a full size graphics card. I mean, if he wanted, he could upgrade to a Ryzen 7 and a 1080 ti and go 4k 60fps without touching any other component.
  2. The Firecuda is for game storage. The OS will be running off a 250gb m.2 sata ssd that my friend had lying around. Currently the firecuda is the cheapest 2tb 2.5" drive around. Even cheaper than a regular 5400rpm HDD.
  3. I thought about heat dispensation, but if i did put fans there, exhaust fans on the bottom of the case which are in direct competition with the card's fans doesn't make a whole lot of sense, and if they were intake, it would be redundent, as the Graphics card fans are right there pulling cool air in from underneath. Plus, I read that the Aorus card keeps incredibly cool, not breaking 60 even in OC mode. I thought about modding the case slightly and putting a small 92mm exhaust fan on the side of the card to take the hot air out, but I think a blower card like the Asus turbo would be WAY louder than the Aorus. And I know I am playing with fire having only 1mm clearance. Unfortunately, I already ordered the card, so I might as well see if it fits, and the bottom 3mm or so is all plastic shroud, so I could maybe sand a little of it off if I absolutely have to.
  4. Well, I checked and in less demanding games, like Rocket League, the card can handle 4k.
  5. Wait, is it too tall? I checked the specs and the graphics card is 59mm tall, and fractal design said that with 10mm fans, you could have a graphics card with a max of 50mm, which made me think that the case has 60mm clearance. http://support.fractal-design.com/support/solutions/articles/4000055657-node-202-graphics-card-limitations-and-fan-possibilities
  6. Yeah. I know. This build is for someone who is used to consoles though, so even if it runs at 1080p and the TV upscales it, that would be fine. They also would mainly play games like Rocket League or FIFA, and I found those games can hit 30fps+ at 4k, which should be good enough.
  7. Thanks for the input. Although, I didn't think the extra cores or threads were that important for this build This will be used almost exclusively for gaming and video playback, neither of which require a lot of cores. I thought that clock speed it more important here, right? I am also already over budget, so I am really trying to keep it on the cheap at this point.
  8. Hello again everybody, I'm just about done parting out my build, and I have one last component to sort out. For my graphics card, I'm going with the Aorus Xtreme 1060 6gb, which I will be running in OC mode at all times. I am also going with a Ryzen build, and I have already purchased a B350 AM4 mobo. I was going to get the Ryzen 3 1200 and just OC it to 3.9ghz, but now I am wondering if that is still underpowered for the graphics card I chose. Does anyone know what is the cheapest Ryzen CPU i can get that will allow me to take full advantage of the GTX 1060 in most AAA games? I know how to manually OC, and apparently it is crazy easy to do with Ryzen, so I plan on OC'ing as much as I can safely, so it's not like I need to get a Ryzen 7 or something. To answer the standard questions: This will be a Gaming PC/ HTPC for 1 4k TV that will be played with a controller. I know the 1060 is not a great 4K card, but even if the games run at 1080p, it'll be fine. Here is the PCPartsPicker link: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/QhKNM8 Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
  9. I thought about that, but we're trying to get it as close to $500 as possible as part of the project. It's going to be over, but realistically I'm shooting for $750. I actually got the case and psu for $115, and since it very well could be fine, I think it's worth the gamble. Do you have any experience with the graphics card and the case?
  10. How dare you stir memories of my childhood with your user image :P

I used to spend too much time on either. And the Windows game pack thing.

      Those were fun times.

  11. Hello everyone, I have just started parting out a new itx build and two of my major planned components are a gtx 1060 6gb and a node 202 case. I've also settled on the gigabyte aorus xtreme 1060 6gb card. Here is the newegg link to the model: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=14-125-970 The depth of the card is 59mm according to gigabyte's website, and from what I read, with 10mm fans, there is 50mm clearance for the card in the node 202, which makes me think that there is 60mm total clearance. What I wanted to know is if there is a catch somewhere that would prevent me from using the entire 60mm clearance for the card. The card uses 287/310mm of the available length, so the front i/o shouldn't be an issue, but as I have not seen the case or card in person, I don't know for sure. Here is the parts list I put together: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/yMGhQV Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
  12. That might actually be it. I'll give it a shot. Thanks!
  13. I noticed that too, which is why I went with manual voltage, and for the most part, my 5.0 1.375v never topped 80 unless under synthetic load, and even them it was just like 82-84. However, as soon as go above 2133 (even just 2400) on the memory, the cpu temps were just going haywire and I was getting spikes at idle and hitting 87 under synthetic load. Something just didnt seem right. Hopefully the conductonaut can cut off a few degrees.
  14. Aside from adjusting those variables, do you think I have a faulty temp sensor, and if so, do you think there's a way to test if it is faulty? Everyone I talked to has said that my temps should not be nearly that high, and I honestly don't know what I'm doing wrong.
  15. I just de and relided with conductonaut (see photo). Now, I just have to wait until tomorrow night, put it back in, hope it posts, and see if there are any temp differences.
