  1. You could "upgrade" now, to get your free license upgrade and then go back to windows 10 to keep it until 2025. It's what I'm doing after trying Win11 for over a month and it deleted my documents randomly. There's a lot of features that were removed from 10 going to 11 and Microsoft is slowly either adding them back or making something new to replace them. I honestly wouldn't recommend going to 11 right now and just wait another year or two when it's polished (though you may polish a turd, a turd is still a turd).
  2. I strongly recommend a laptop / tablet combo that you can take digital notes on if you have any sort of technical classes and need to do any sort of drawings (like in my electrical courses, that would've been very useful to directly write on the documents the teachers gave online instead of pen and paper on a blank sheet). If it's all theoretical, or just classes in human science, then it doesn't matter. This might be different where you live, but for me a lot of teachers in basic classes like philo, language and world economics didn't want us to use laptops because it's "distracting" as well. As for which models... Just wait until your classes starts to know if you need to run specific softwares for any sort of courses and get whatever the school's support is knowledgeable on.
  3. Huh?? Why would it ruin your router? Data is data, doesn't matter where it comes from for your router. You can download 5TB per day if you want. Your router is literally designed to transmit data from the modem to you. It ain't gonna be ruined for doing its job.
  4. It's great how people are so used to not take care of their devices that they are completely fine buying insurance from the company making the devices, who purposefully make them awful to repair yourself so you have no choice but to go through them, so may as well get the insurance. Cynicism aside, it will be good for people who buy devices for kids (as insane as that is) and people who are careless. More than 2 repairs in a year sounds crazy high to me, but then again my teenage niece broke her iphone's screen (iphone 8) 5 times last year. Meanwhile her younger sibling with an old samsung from 2017 still has an intact screen somehow... I dunno man.
  5. There's a few steps to go through, not sure if this will be helpful to you : https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Razer_Blade_14_RZ09-0370 Overall, this sort of things is to be expected with laptops. They want you to use what they shipped it with.
  6. Sometimes I do. Depends on the pizza, where I am and who I am with.
  7. To be fair, people with devices with such a low amount of RAM were probably not expecting to update their version of Android.
  8. F Sorry for the loss of your grandma. This is why I hate delegating tasks to others when I can do it myself. We're always getting fucked over by someone when we do that. Especially if you let someone who isn't tech savvy handle tech. I don't know about customer protection in your country, but there's likely not much you can do (you paid about $120 CAD for that 730, a 1030 is the exact same price here). That's how it is with scumlords who overcharge the government for basic work. Even if these were "online prices", the fact that he's quoting nearly 10x the real amount is insane and makes no sense at all. No one in their right mind would think "oh right, online prices, that makes sense, this explains why it seems cheaper". But I'm not sure how you not getting a graphic card that can play some games at low setting = failing your classes, though.
  9. Well, I can think of various reasons why a company would lay off an entire department... But getting rid of your entire security department is usually not the smartest move for a tech company that handles customer payment data. Unless they are offloading that to a third party and not actually handling any of it themselves.
  10. Every jobs are at one point or another going to go extinct as we progress toward the future. It's sad to say, but I for one like AI generated arts a lot more than some of the stuff that passes for "art" these days.
  11. The problem with reddit, people don't bother looking up if an existing thread exist, so they make a new one. This results in hundreds of threads asking and complaining about the same thing, cluttering up the subreddit (Just have to see the "dbrand controversy" on the SteamDeck subreddit as an example on this). So I totally get where they are coming from. They could just pin one at the top for people to post their complaints in. Also, keep in mind... The forum and subreddit are two different entities and the subreddit is not an official part of LMG. Only the Discord is official and I'm sure the mods on Discord (and here) will also be tired of hearing about complaints when there's obvious reasons to explain them that were stated hundreds of times before (on here, the mods would likely merge these threads together). Due to high volumes of orders, they are SWAMPED. They just launched their two biggest products yet nearly at the same time. Even if they have a lot of employees now, they can't handle thousands of support requests in a timely manner. Lets put some perspective on this. They've sold over 60 000 screwdrivers thus far. If even 1% of those orders need help, that's 600 requests for help. Last I checked they had about 2 or 4 people dedicated to the support. Assuming you want more than a generic copy/paste reply... Lets say it takes at least 5 minutes per request, 2 people would clear this in 4 days, 8 hours shifts. While 4 people would take 2 days. This is not including all the other requests for support that are coming in during that time as well (and for other items sold), nor if a request requires more than 1 reply and needs some back&forth. As big as LMG is, they aren't Amazon. They are still not "BIG" enough to have hundreds of support staff who do nothing but reply to messages all day to clear out the backlog of support tickets This is only in the event of something like doxxing and they need to act on it quickly if the reddit mods are asleep (they've said as much). They do not actually moderate anything on there otherwise.
  12. For those of us who don't feel like going through an entire subreddit because you didn't post a proper source... What's the issue here?
  13. I play with All The Mods 7 modpack, so most redstone stuff can be done with machinery that I just need to build and power. Easily done.
  14. I listen to them while working out, while walking outside, when doing chores... I tend to avoid them while gaming, unless it's a mindless game like Minecraft.
  15. Yes, but now if something happens to the "facebook" account itself, at least it won't render your headset useless, as it did for many users in the past. Just wish they had stayed with Oculus accounts instead of doing this whole crap.
  16. Good. Facebook rendered headsets useless by banning user accounts for stuff that had nothing to do with VR and happened on Facebook itself. That and all the people who made the mistake of reactivating a facebook account on their new headset... Only for it to act as if they were banned because of how trash facebook is. They never should've forced us to use a Facebook account when we had perfectly workable Oculus accounts. So now we're basically going back to how things were before.
  17. For a lot of things, he's not exactly wrong. If you use a PC just for web browsing and as a media consumption box, you don't need top tier hardware and low end stuff will work just as good. Of course, once you start doing anything more than basic stuff, like gaming and video editing, the higher end hardware will provide tangible benefits in the form of higher frame per seconds and faster render time. Oh but he's 100% wrong on the latency thing.
  18. Looking forward to likely never see this battery tech. Like all the others.
  19. My desk is about 26 inch high. Perfect for me. Both feet touch the ground, back straight, my elbows are well placed, not too high nor too low. Next to impossible finding a perfect desk out of the box, so I had to get one with adjustable legs. So really, it depends on your height. If you're on the "shorter" side like me at 5'7", you could benefit from lowering it. If you're taller, it would depend on you.
  20. So, does it says anywhere how they were collecting that data? Is it through Java? Or through backend server stuff that we mere mortals have no control over?
  21. Never heard of it before and just like that I lost any sort of potential interest I might have had toward it if I had seen it before. Fully expect alternatives to show up soon enough, if they don't already exist. Like Photopea, which is a free online photoshop-like took.
  22. Just use Keepass if you're going to keep them locally. At least that will be secured.
  23. I still think the whole warranty drama was ridiculous and highly misunderstood by a subset of people unwilling to listen (just like the piracy controversy before it). Linus explained himself and some of us were willing to listen instead of focusing on "no written warranty!? blasphemy!". A warranty is only as good as the company wiling to stick to it and not find some way out of it. Having it written only gives you an extra easy way to take them to court over their words if they don't honor it. That's it. Had manufacturers decline me warranty service even though it should've been covered for ridiculous reasons like "we don't offer warranty in Canada" even though they sell products in Canada and it's not written in their warranty policy. Now that LMG has made a written warranty policy, there's still people complaining... Literally can't win. It's relatively on par with most other warranty, covers manufacturing defects but not the usual wear and tear. Perfectly normal things. Who bought the bag thinking they could damage/modify it and expect to still have a warranty??? Weird how Steve makes it sound like just because Linus said he stood behind his product 100%, that somehow it meant you could throw your bag in a shredder and still have a warranty or something. Unreasonable. Of course it wouldn't be covered no matter what Linus said. (and the Trust Me Bro shirt was made out of a request they got on Twitter about it) But I do agree that they should be considered like any other manufacturer when it comes to their products.
  24. Hopefully, if they are smart... They'll do nothing special and they save/invest the extra money they would've had to pay. Or keep paying their debt as normal and be done with it quicker. But I just know a lot of them will keep wasting money and living above their means instead of cutting their expenses in order to pay their loan ASAP. Like the people living off credit and never paying their cards fully. Which is what I'm seeing the backlash about on social media. It's between people who actually took responsibilities to live modestly for a few years to pay it back saying these people are getting a hand out for acting irresponsibly. Personally... I don't really care either way. Doesn't affect me as I'm in Canada. US education is massively overpriced, just like most of everything in the US that's private and not public, so if this can help a few people get out of misery faster, good.
