Risky theme! I like it! 144hz!! How was the personal experience stepping up to 1700? I was tbinking bout a SLi 980ti a while ago, funny to see one. To be honest i dont like both of tbose boards. I actually doubted on the carbon, but eventually it was a no. So what were my new picks? Well my final pick is an Asus hero VI but those are bit more expensive but looking at the carbon class: (Near carbons price) Gigabyte Gaming K5 (Near k3s price) Asrock fatal1ty k4 Asus Prime Pro I have researched reasons to be stepping away from MSI lately. I myself am trying (with pain but pleasure too) to go Asus ROG as much as possible. Tho...in the past i would have suggested msi gaming .... Budget wise. Ps: dont cheap out on b350s. Unless your really have to. X370 are more comfortable with ryzen. And i dont understand why ppl would wanna cheap out on their board anyway, especially not with newer chips. And no im not only talking about SLI, screw sli thats not the reason why x370's are real.

Your cpu is techwise in the stone ages. I agree with others about upgrading your system over the gpu first. Also the GTX1070 comes cheaper atm i think (not sure havent checked lately)

Wait hold on, i never said its worth the money over a 1700 tho. So yes i would suggest 1700 over 1800x in this case, and any gamer/oc'er who need to pick.

Offtopic but......cool build i love how you use the 980TI. Can you tell me bit bout your performance? Nice pick on the board and monitor! My build will be something like that with the 1080TI or whatever the future will bring this summer. How do you do at 1440p on heavy gaming? Lol why did u get the 1600 too? To test between both? Watch some real things dude, To answer the OP: I see the madness broke loose. Ryzen is in any ways better than the 7700k. It maybe have a 5-10% gaming drawback in fps also in the low fps, on and below 1080P. 7700k Is a good choice on 1080p. Still, would you care for numbers? Also, with a GTX 1080 you can easily game on 1440p+, this will be good for ryzen and closing the gap more. 7700k is allready at max limits in heavy games, where ryzen despite the lower clockrate (1 GHZ!!!!!!!!!!!) has alot of headroom. For some reason ppl love gaming on CPUS today and not GPU bound?! I would advice you to use 16 gb ram tho its the new basic IMO. Ignore what other people say (they are gamers mostly). A nice set of 3k 3200 mhz will be sweet. Also ignore people who deny that more cores is better. These are the same people that said:,, Why on earth do we ever need Dual cores. Why on earth do we ever need quad cores. Why on earth do we ever need 8 threads. Why on earth do we need ETC ETC.'' The point is they are wrong and you can check that by opening your eyes, all those nay sayers are now running quad cored 7700k's or 2500k or 6700k, you get my point. An OC'ed 1700 would be my pick too! Keep in mind that Ryzen is a new chip, cheap too and delivers 5% less below 1080p (gaming wise) with almost 1-1,2 ghz less core speed. Also the 1151 socket is at his end. Be aware with older games etc, they prefer single threads more, or stuff like emulators, these simply arent optimised for Ryzen. Ow and this guy here says:,, 7700k Opens things faster". But i dont get his point. My snapdragon 801 opens apps faster than my Apple SE yet my SE is ALOT FASTER than my 801. This is cause my 801 has a 2,5ghz processor but thats basicly all it does, opening apps faster. Great so i have no clue what his point is. Have fun building and dont cheap out around ur gtx1080.

Its a different bin. But yes basicly the same chip gaming wise it wouldnt matter. It easy to see that if both on stock clock one will spin a bit smoother, cooler, better core work on the flagship chips, that inclcudes turbos.

The OP is right. But we are heading towards the 5 months now. I need to cut deals sooner or later, pff forced to wait! Will it be the 7700k almost with a near a 70-90 drop in price after all? I hope not. Thread ripper better make things up. What bout the new agesa update?

LOL THAT BOARD ...... has the highest OC record ever on ryzen. 1800x is way stronger than the 1700, for gaming that wouldnt matter though. Please check the processors out ..... before you make silly suggestions. You have a different board , i assume you use the Msi carbon? hope it works out let us know im curious

Theres only 1 reason. Its marketing, they lower it before the upcoming threadripper to push sale. If you were on an edge of buying 7700k or Ryzen 1700+, today might be the day you would cut the deal on ryzen. Ha offcourse its not for the good of the consumers. A price drop is good for the consumer anyway, so either way intention or not, its good! I think they wanna bring out the threadripper and they are kind of afraid of intels release so they want to have a cheaper 16/32 sale to eventually sell more. Chips are cheap as hell. AMD cant do much else than this they simply dont have the market share for it. Lol i guess youre right...the above isnt happening. But yet it is! The reason might not be that, yet your chip is now 50 bucks cheaper! Darn marketing, to realise the production of that chip is so cheap

I am very curious about intels new releases too! Yes intel will probably cursh upoon ryzen (amd) once again. I wonder how they will go with their prices. They will lose alot of 'normal daily life' consumers if they keep it high, its not that hard now with ryzen in the background to not pick intel. Ha its all a surprise i cant wait ! I doubt you will buy R3 unless you really want a low end pc. R3's are said to be released around third quarter of 2017. Thats pretty late if you ask me. With the threadripper not even being released ryzen allready is dropping prices. Imagine how much an R5 cost in september, or an R7. But my nerdism cant wait for R3 either just to see some action from them

It doesnt really matter which one, well unless you pick a Founders Edition... A good warranty is always nice, i would say ROG since i am into ROG lately, but they come expensive indeed. If you know your way around OCING you wouldnt have to buy the most expensive aimed card etc. All cards perform equally (same chip) but are tuned. If you dont wanna spend alot just look on a cheaper one like the gigabyte, check some reviews about throttling, stutter, work speed/pressure/stress/heat/cooling. From there pick. I was a big fan of MSI back in the day but i wouldnt be so sure of them right now, i would not suggest MSI at all. I think you wont be dissapointed anyway! Goodluck with your buy .

And even complain on that rig? but yes the 1700=where my eyes look at, but with the 1700x dropping i have more headroom for oc in the future (i hope), omg i love amd atm!
