  1. Ah OK good to know. Thanks. I'll look into this a bit more.
  2. This was my favorite by far but the extended ATX form factor would force me to remove my cable shroud in my S340 Elite.
  3. I've been eyeing the Gigabyte AORUS Gaming 3. (https://m.newegg.com/products/N82E16813145015) What are the reasons to jump to the ASUS Prime? RGB is a non-issue for me, I have case lighting w/ NZXT Hue+.
  4. I've never really watched a processor lineup launch this closely so I am clueless as far as timeframe on these things. When might I expect the 2nd round of testing?
  5. Yeah definitely won't be doing any of that. Thanks for the info. I can't find any X299 motherboard reviews. Is there any info regarding what some of the better options might be?
  6. Ok yeah that makes sense. So is my assumption of 300W/8-pin and 150W/4-pin correct? Or is it not that simple?
  7. Looking at getting this processor, The peak load measured by OC3D on this chip hit ~390W under OCCT conditions. (https://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/cpu_mainboard/intel_core_i7_7820x_skylake_x_review/17) Will the lower end mobo's single 8-pin EPS plug provide enough power? Or do I need to get a higher end 8+4 Mobo to over clock this CPU? I have an EVGA 850W GQ
  8. True, I agree. I suppose this platform will mostly appeal to those who want both 6+ cores with the best single core performance, even if it is a higher cost per performance. I think a good amount of enthusiasts would be willing to pay more, if only to have "the best performance".
  9. Yes, Der8auer in the video even states that his was "pretested", or one of the better Bins. However, I would guess that even lower binned chips will likely reach 4.5GHz. I also agree that X299 is still horribly priced, but for those who want a 6/8/10/12 AND high single core performance, Intel is their choice (albeit the cost per performance is likely worse, especially concerning increased cost of the X299 chipset).
  10. He hit 4.8GHz without delidding! Only 200MHz gain after delidding. Looks like the excess adhesive issue has been resolved. Very exciting results. If these results are repeatable, people will likely be changing their tunes about Intel. I can't wait to hear how far the 6/8-core models can be pushed.
  11. No, the i9-7800X and i9-7820X are supposedly coming out end of June. Definitely wait for these to come out. The rumored specs were posted today here (or you can wait for the Intel conference at Computex on May 30): http://wccftech.com/intel-x299-skylake-x-kaby-lake-x-z370-coffee-lake-s-z390-cannonlake-cpu-details/
  12. The discount I can get is 50% off MSRP, and it seems most think 6c/8c hyperthreaded will be better for me than 4c/8t, so I am now considering the HEDT line (LGA2011-3). I plan on waiting for Intel's June(?) announcement on Skylake-X/Kaby Lake-X before I make any decisions.
  13. Yes, it is VERY poorly optimized, and probably isn't a good reference point for that reason (oops). But to answer your question my CPU usage is 85-100% and GPU is around 25-40%. Indicating CPU throttle....right? This is after I made the change you suggested. My friend sits at 70% GPU, 80% CPU (the same one with the 1070 and similar CPU) in game. Thanks for your time looking into this with me.
  14. I still hesitate to believe that would up the AverageFPS from 68 to 113. But I'd love to hear a second opinion on this. You may be right.
