16:15 "GPU Startup Imagination Technologies" LOL.  Tell me you didn't research this company without telling me you didn't research this company.

These homies brought you Kyro and Kyro 2.  TILE BASED RENDERING!!!!  "Hey we don't need hardware T&L but TILE BASED RENDERING!!!"

16:15 - "GPU startup Imagination Technologies". Oof, as someone who worked there a good few years back, that pains me 🙂

Imagination Technologies is the parent company of PowerVR, which was renamed from Videologic, who were making graphics cards before Nvidia was founded. For consumers, they did the old Kyro graphics cards in the 90s, the Sega Dreamcast*, and the GPU designs that the Apple M3 and A17 chips still derive from to this day (At least they still pay them for licenses to their tech, if they no longer take complete core designs).

And it looks like they're the ones supplying the Ventana Veyron V2 GPU mentioned immediately before, in fact the screenshot for that is even of a press release talking about Imagination Technologies' partnership with Ventana. Seems a bit of an odd phrasing to mention that as if it's separate.

Sorry for the long delay in the reply.  I paid $43.26 CAD for the 5 boards, shipping included!

I ordered 5 keyboard PCB's for a 1800-layout I'm working on.  Shipping and assembly were timely.  Seemed like a decent product!

You are trying to install TrueNAS, which is a NAS filesystem to run on x86-64 architecture onto a NetGear ReadyNAS Duo V1, which is a proprietary NAS from 2011.  It has 256MB of DDR and a single core SPARC processor.

In this page in the NetGear community they have found a way to update the SMB daemon to enable it to work with Win10 and above shares, but not much else.

If you feel that working through the Linux command line is too much of an ask, get rid of that ancient NAS and put together something more recent.

Be VERY careful about buying this laptop.  Make sure it doesn't have a BIOS password.  It cannot be cleared with a simple CMOS clear.

SAS drives and controllers can be had on eBay for relatively cheap.  Linus, you've done some work with SSD's in a NAS before and while great for raw speed, for reliability and long term data storage, they aren't really a great option.

SATA HDD's are all fine and dandy but not the greatest of performers.  So then, how would a 15K SAS setup compare?

Actually gonna do a fair bit more work on this one

Got some new parts in today, and expecting a few more soon enough. I felt that I wasn't utilizing the potential of the case as well as I could, so I'm gonna push it a bit further. I still won't be using a rad on the side, as I still want it to be visual, but I will be adding a 92mm rad in the back, with a slim Noctua, and I will be replacing the bottom rad and fans. The 22 FPI of the EK-rad aren't the best (in my opinion), and the package I'll be getting in a few days will reveal which rad that will be.

The bottom fans will be SilverStone Slim 120 SST-FW121. They are PWM-fans, and seem sturdier and has a better static air pressure. Probably not all that different, but I'm curious enough to try. In addition I will be using Termal Grizzly Kryonaut instead.

And the final little (in every sense of the word) surprise is this:

The new SF600 from Corsair. The SilverStone SX600-G is fine, but it is making those twittering noises people are talking about. I so far haven't had a bad Corsair PSU, so I'm giving it a shot!

A couple of shot of all the glory:

The next parts are following shortly, probably in a few days

On a side note regarding team red vs team green...you have to wonder what is going through Nvidia's head at the planning level.  Seems to me like they're slacking on the innovation side of things.  No async compute aside, Nvidia has traditionally been ahead of AMD or toe-to-toe with them from a hardware perspective.

But it almost seems like they're taking an "Intel vs AMD" position where their market lead is so great that they can afford to rest on their laurels.  To me, their market lead isn't THAT great that they can be doing it.  AMD, at least on the graphics front, is working on new emerging tech and innovating in the space to have that robust, future proof edge.

I do NOT see Nvidia doing this.  And I think it's going to cost them...

    Small update, big job...

Now that the core of the computer is basically squared away, it's time to focus on the front panel...namely the LED's and the light bar.  Looking at the stock Phanteks photo we see that the bar is blue at stock...

...we know of course, that for the Orange Crush, this simply will not do.  Let's take a dive into some dissassembly, shall we?

    .
Here is the front panel itself.  Removing the smoke lens is *relatively* easy as it's just held in by tabs.  Those tabs are fragile as I broke 1, but no big deal!

Here are the innards.  Phanteks inserts a blue light bar into the front panel to give you that Jedi blue that everyone loves.  Let's see this sucker:

With the light bar out we see it's roughly 21.25 inches.  Nobody sells a light bar that long of course, but we can come CLOSE with some combos of existing off-the-shelf strips:

Enter the Darkside connect light strips!  If we use 2x 7.75" strips and a single 5.5" strip gives us a total of 21"...short by a quarter inch, but no big deal as it still fits!  They have these pigtails on the strips that need to be removed before we can link em' together:

With a little bit of desoldering and cleaning, I'm ready to link them.  I'm using little bits of 18 gauge wire to link them together like so:

Crude, but effective means of linking them together.

Finally, with the new strip re-installed, we are ready to see how we did:

Turned out well I think.  More to come!  Next post...power button LED and HDD LEDs.
