  1. I had an idea that I thought might be interesting inspired by some other youtubers (and twitter)-- that would be: they would read some @them'ed on twitter and respond in a youtube video So~~ We have LinusTechTips, TechQuickie, and TechLinked-- neat DIY technology vids, basically a tech dictionary in video form, and latest tech news-- we build computers, learn about new things, and learn (plan) ahead... but what about fixing the things? Troubleshooting. I'd have trouble finding a topic to start with, that is fixing a broken thing-- IT/Troubleshooting, so why not ask Twitter? And then make a Youtube Video~~ Ask twitter about their tech problems, do some research (if needed), write a script to solve their problems, rinse and repeat until you have a video (even if these videos span just two or three minutes in length, would watch them) I even have a name suggestion so-- LinusTechTips, Techquickie, TechLinked..... TechFixed
  2. I'm looking for some video editing software with some things in mind: Drag and drop video onto the timeline-- and then use some snipping tool to divide it into clips, and from there I can adjust properties of said clip without affecting the rest of the video on the same track; Pan and Zoom; Create another video track and use some transform tool to create a kind of HUD(?)-- layering video; Editable and multiple audio tracks [for when an audio track needs to stay in sync with a time-lapsed video track, and also background music] Such video editing software did exist (and I used the free version to do all this) but it is no longer supported and no longer available. --said software is Serif MoviePlus Demonstrations: I used one video track, clipped it and adjusted play speeds for the multiple clips on the track-- Layering video in a 'HUD'-- also pan and zoom Keeping audio (comms) in sync with a time lapse
  3. I should mention, this was inspired by some LTT videos including "Server Room Updates KVMs and stuff" and "Server Room VLog". Someone tell Linus!
  4. A googlesheets document with almost everything I have and everything in it, negligible things (like sata cables) unaccounted for https://bit.ly/2K1eITQ Pics included and Price totals reflect the prices I paid-- including shipping, and priced at the time of order
  5. I have a couple NASes that could use it after they get rebuilt, and it wont seem out of place (but probably overkill) I've never actually worked with ECC Memory before
  6. Guess I didn't understand what ECC was Thanks Would it be any kind of useful in "NAS" builds?
  7. Would I be removing a potential point of failure, building a gaming rig with ECC memory and cpu/mobo that supports it?
  8. I have a 15u rack with a few machines and plan on upgrading to a 42u rack and adding more machines and UPSs over time. My idea is to load the 15u rack with three power distribution units with three ups each (since I can't afford a "man-sized battery") and use 20ft power cables to connect the machines in the larger rack to the ups. Would this be hazardous in any way? (overload/overheat?)
  9. http://i.imgur.com/wDUnD2h.jpg Not the most elegant solution, but not a total mess. And probably not the cheapest This is about the size of a mini fridge.. http://a.co/9simd9j rack enclosure, its shorter-than-most depth limits your options for chassis; I've yet to find rails for it to properly mount things inside. http://a.co/1NSa79F 2U chassis kind of wierd to build in, but not difficult http://a.co/5ffH6X6 the only 4U chassis I've found to fit in it It's a project I'm working on anyway
  10. Use some amount of soft tubing and some quick-disconnect fittings to make a bracelet. Someone try it!
  11. I bought a 'Certified Refurbished' mechanical keyboard and a wireless mouse. The space bar on the keyboard doesn't work and the mouse pointer doesn't move (but the buttons work) I've had better experiences with 'Used-Good' than refurbished
  12. I have a wireless router connected to the internet in one room. In another room, I have some computers and a switch. How do I get internet computers connected to the internet without running a long cable between the router and the switch?
