avg123 got a reaction from MadisonMadi in Should i upgrade my OS to Win 11 or not
If Microsoft is still giving the free upgrade to Windows 11 offer, then upgrade your PC and claim the offer.
After you upgrade, your key will be valid for both Windows 10 and 11.
If you don't like Windows 11, you will have 30 days to downgrade back to Windows 10.
But now if you ever need Windows 11 in the future for some reason, you would not need to buy a Windows 11 key as your existing key will work

I see a dark day in our future when you won't be able to transfer anything between your phone and computer without creating an account with some company.

avg123 got a reaction from Taf the Ghost in OnlyFans is banning porn starting October 1, the thing that made it successful (update)
A lot of people are getting the OnlyFans story wrong, and the reality of it is a lot more damaging and concerning to both the livelihood of sex workers and online freedom in general.
OnlyFans isn’t ditching porn and sex workers because it’s trying to get new investments. It’s ditching them because on October 1st of 2021 MasterCard is implementing new rules governing sites with adult content that use their payment processing systems.
These rules will basically require that OnlyFans (and every other site that accepts MasterCard payments) not only fully verify every user and every person who appears in every adult video, but review all posted content before publication, including real-time review of livestreams
The new records-keeping, review processes, verification and other requirements are going to be expensive and time-consuming. OnlyFans seems to have decided it’s not worth it. More importantly though, these rules will put incredible pressure on smaller sites and indie creators.
Onlyfans actual statement on the matter:

avg123 reacted to Dujith in What will be size of a uncompressed RAW 8K 16 bit 2 hour long movie?
Color depth × vertical resolution × horizontal resolution × refresh frequency
So in case of 8k (lets go nuts and record at 60fps 16 bit RAW): 16 x 8192 x 4320 x 60 = 33.97Gbs = 4.25GB/s
2 hours is 2x60x60 = 7200 seconds
7200 x 4.25GB = 30.6TB
So get your NAS ready 😄 You might need a few extra drives. (Nevermind the transfer rate)

avg123 reacted to WintorialsLift in What is co_release mean in Windows 11?
Cobalt. It's the shortened codename.
Between December 2019 and June 2021 in the Dev Channel, a lot of Windows 10 builds had codenames for builds that won't release to the public and were just to keep up to the latest code. If I'm not mistaken, there was one with "mn_release" which meant "Manganese".

avg123 got a reaction from Slayerking92 in Dell is BANNED from selling its powerful gaming PCs in California because it consumes more energy than the liberal state's green laws allow
Summary
California passed new energy restrictions on consumer goods in 2016, but the standards did not take effect until 2019.
The restrictions stem from the idea that California is the most populous state in the nation, has the largest economy, and is second only to Texas in total energy consumption.
With these details in mind, California officials began releasing a different list of restrictions every few years with Tier I restrictions rolling out January 2019, which allowed no more than 50, 80 or 100 kWh a year for systems made from then up until July 2021.
And Tier II launched just this past July 1, which includes Dell's Alienware gaming system.
The Alienware Aurora R12 Gaming Desktop without the 11th Gen Intel Core Processor is the only model that can be shipped to all 50 states, the other three systems with the powerful chip, which range in price for $1,099 to $2,409.99, cannot.
According to Dell, its energy intensive Alienware consumes 63 kWH a year when idle, but it can use 563 kWh annually if its CPU is stressed.
California law restricts anything made after July 1 to 50, 60 or 70 kWH a year.
There is now a warning label under the gaming systems on Dell’s website that reads: ‘This product cannot be shipped to the states of California, Colorado, Hawaii, Oregon, Vermont or Washington due to power consumption regulations adopted by those states.
‘Any orders placed that are bound for those states will be canceled.’
Quotes
My thoughts
What is the point of this? Did this really need a regulation? Whats stopping anyone building their own pc?
What about people that require powerful pc for their work?
