  1. Hello, To prefix why I am doing this, I want to host a minecraft server for my little brother without giving my IP address out to his friends. So my idea is, setup a VPS with OPENVPN on it, connect my local unraid server to the VPS server and then figure out a way to port forward. At the moment I am stuck on the part of trying to port foward the minecraft server, I am able to access the minecarft server if I VPN into the network but I want to be able to access the minecraft server without having to vpn in. Does anyone know a solution to this problem or a better one? Thanks
  2. This is past the scope of being formatted, it doesn't have a partition table, I am unable to assign one. This is not a simple issue sad to say.
  3. Hello everyone, So recently my friend brought a 240GB Kinston SSD from Amazon, I installed Windows 10 for him and after a couple of months, he decided it'd be a good idea to force shutdown his Laptop, which corrupted the SSD. I have attempted multiple fixes, tried to reinstall windows 10, install Ubuntu, and I am now trying Darik's Boot and Nuke, it's taking a while to complete. The computer can read the SSD and how much space it has but puts the volume as 240GB Unknown. I think the SSD might be totalled. PS: My friend lost the receipt Thanks Steven.
  4. There will be a performance drop probably 20%, as you will be running off of 4 lanes and it's M.2 (31.5 Gb/s (3.9 GB/s) ) so no M.2 drive. Also depends if you output to your laptop monitor or an external one. 5. I've corrected my mistake (GTX 1060), that is true but it doesn't seem to be worth doing as you wouldn't get much performance out of it, depending on the GPU, but if money isn't a problem then go for it!!!!!!!!! Also, firestrike doesn't mean real world performance, I'd search up for tests online for the use cases what you use your Laptop for.
  6. Hello, The main issue I see here is that you already have a GTX 1060 in the laptop, whatever GPU you add would probably give you equal to or just a little bit better performance. I personally do not think eGPU's are worth it at the moment, wait until 4th Gen PCI-E. I do not see the point in doing this, save your money.
  7. Hello, It really depends on your ISP, as most ISP's throttle your internet connection at a certain time of the day or if you are download/uploading a lot of data. I'd recommend reading your TOS for your current ISP.
  8. Hello, I think it'd be a good idea to at least take out the GPU and Wrap it up, as even with the "Fragile" sticker on the box, it will most likely get thrown around within the back of the delivery drivers Van.
  9. Well thanks for your input, I'll post in the thread if I have found a solution. Thanks Steven
  10. Well, it's a bit of a story. I had a spare GPU the GT 730, and my main GPU the GTX 580 only has 1 HDMI, 2 DVI-I, and 1 Display Port. I did not have a DVI-I cable or a Display Port cable, but I did have an extra HDMI. So I grabbed my extra GPU and put it in my PC. So the problem was solved until I decided to use Linux, I thought Linux would have great support for multiple GPU's, as Linux dominates the server industry. None of my monitors support display port or DVI-I. I had an adapter DVI-I to VGA, but Linux will not output the correct resolution of my monitor, I tried manually adding the resolution with xrandr but just kept giving me errors. It's a real shame, I think the only thing I can do is either buy another GPU or go back to Windows. I've searched all across the internet to see if there is a solution to this issue, I can find it. I've also tried multiple different distros such as; Ubuntu 16.04.3, Antergos GNOME, Solus Mate, as I though it might be an issue within the distro but nope.
  11. Hello, So I decided to switch back to Linux (Solus: Mate), as the game support has gotten a lot better. I have 2 GPU's one is a GTX 580 ASUS 1.5GB GDDR5(main GPU), and the second is a GT 730 EVGA 1GB GDDR5. When I was on windows the Second GPU was working and outputting to my monitor but with Linux that seems to have not worked. Could anyone tell me if it is possible to output from a Second GPU, and if it is then how would I go about that? PC Specs; CPU: FX 8150 RAM: 12GB DDR3 1600MHz Sound Card: ASUS GDX GPU 1: GTX 580 ASUS 1.5GB GDDR5 GPU 2: GT 730 EVGA 1GB GDDR5 Thanks Steven
  12. As a general rule of thumb, I would recommend looking up how much a certain part of the computer would cost second hand, and how much you are willing to pay for the part. Then compile the list. Once you have the list of the part, I generally subtract 20% and throw that in as an offer for the computer, if you think they will take lower then offer lower.
  13. That system can't really be upgraded, it's not worth it. Maybe if you can get it cheap enough you could keep everything else but the CPU and Mobo and build a system off of the parts you salvaged.
  14. There is no difference at all, as long as you get a good CPU like an i7 8700K or an R7 1800x. You could get a thread ripper, its completely up to you. With your use case I'd recommend i7 8700K or an Ryzen 1800x.
