Judd got a reaction from CodeAsm in 16x2 LCD Letters Are Very Dim
Ok, sorry about this but it appears after some testing that my 5v power supply was outputting 10v instead of 5v. So, after getting a new power supply and testing it, it now works. Thank you for the help and sorry for wasting your time. Have a good day.

I didn't say the issue was the router....It was the thing looking at the router.
I know exactly what I'm talking about.

Judd got a reaction from rphawks in Bluetooth Receiver for Device
It has a battery because AUX does not supply enough power to wirelessly broadcast a bluetooth signal. It comes with a usb cord to charge it. You can charge it while using it.

Judd reacted to Tabs in Overclocked my GPU but...
It basically means the overclock was unstable. The screen turning off means the display driver crashed and Windows restarted the device (so anything using the GPU at the time like Kombustor would also crash).
What type of GPU do you have? It's possible your card doesn't have much thermal headroom.
I'd generally try to suggest that if you're going to overclock, overclock one thing at a time - push core up in steps until you become unstable (with memory at stock speed), then dial it back a few notches and start on memory in the same way. This means you always know which clock is unstable when you get a crash.

Judd got a reaction from Daysy in Raspberry Pi Photobooth
I just got it working! Turns out it REQUIRES you to have a Google Account associated with a gmail email address. However, now the touchscreen wont work. It displays the desktop but it doesn't respond to touch. So, typical Linux.l Fix one problem, find another one you never knew you had. Well, at least I learned that the seemingly un-related things may have the biggest impact. Thanks for the help. And by the way, you were right about the password, no spaces in between the 4 characters. Thanks again.

Judd got a reaction from Crunchy Dragon in I just bought a gtx1080FE card new for $565
The FE is a fine card. It may be louder than aftermarket coolers but the performance will be almost the same. talking about a 2-5% max drop in performance. Something you may never notice.

Judd got a reaction from Crunchy Dragon in Birthday PC Surprise, need help!
To clear it, you can load Windows 10 on a USB then when the PC first powers up, go to the BIOS by spamming the delete key. You will choose to boot from the USB drive and in the setup process you can delete everything on the HDD. This would require a new license for Windows 10 or if your brother can deal with a watermark on the right bottom corner than it is free. If you need more help I can talk you through it.
You could MAYBE get a gtx 950 or 750/750ti for that. It will be a definite upgrade from the current but its nothing special.

Judd got a reaction from Saxioliken in Overclock/Undervolt laptop GPU
Undervolting is where if a GPU uses 1v to stay at say 1750mhz, then you will force it to run at .975v. this leads to less heat and less wattage drawn. Overclocking is when the max the GPU will go is say 1800mhz, then you again tell it to run say 50mhz higher. This way it goes slightly faster getting marginally better performance.
If undervolting is enabled, then yes it is safe. Overclocking tho is different. Yes if the GPU stays below 80 at games, but no if it doesn't.

Your right, its all in the CPU. I would recommend a 1050ti if you are not gaming.

Judd reacted to Princess Luna in Why are SSHDs so unpopular?
Because buying a separated SSD for boot and a HDD for storage is a better route for performance and pricing, same reason why Intel Optane also isn't popular.

Judd reacted to Howitz in OC'ing i7-8700k. Is it worth it?
if it's not bottlenecking your gtx1080ti, which it isnt, and if you don't need more performance, which you probably don't. then don't OC it.
now let's say for example that you have a 75hz monitor and want to play at 75 fps to match it. But unfortunately you experience drops to 55 fps, you notice your cpu is the culprit going at 100% during these drops while your gpu still have some headroom, it's in this situation you'll want to overclock.

Clean it with isopropyl alcohol and a toothbrush to try and clean the pads and retry it after its dry. ( Try at your own risk )

Idk why he is even playing at 8k if there are no 8k screens yet anyway.
Just tell him to play at 4k instead.
