Thought I would share my latest creation. Cost me only $350 to assemble.
Uses altec 811b horns, emilar compression drivers, jbl 2226h woofers, and jbl pa cabinets. I had to enlarge the horn whole to fit the altec, and add an l pad to tone it down. Result sounds great. Weigh 85lbs each. I get good volume with 60% volume on my 3w tube amp. I also have a 400w amp for next year. I plan to bi-amp as well.

So I ended up ordering a iFi Nano iONE, I prefer new so I can get my warranty and this one is the only one mentioned by members which is actually available in my country (ignoring any SMSL or Topping device), plus I read some promising reviews. I'll let you know how it goes when it arrives.

Monoprice's Monolith audio division has put up a few new products on their website. 2 open back dynamic headphones, and 2 Amps made in partnership with reputable Amp maker, Alex Cavalli.

    Starting with the M600
The M600 is a open back dynamic headphone, that keeps the familiar wood of the Monolith series. Price is $130 and release date is May 31st. https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=30864

The M650 identical to the M600 is looks and almost identical in specs. It has a different description of it's sound and apparently larger cups. Both appear to have swapable pads, unlike the velcro and glued pads of the other Monolith headphones. It appears that Monoprice is stealing the naming from the legendary HD600 and HD650, with M600 and M650. Price is $150 and release date is May 31st. https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=30865

Alex Cavalli Liquid Spark. Alex Cavalli is a very reputable Amp manufacturer, I almost find it sad that he has sold out to the controversial Monoprice. But anyway, this is a Magni 3 competitor without any doubt. It has all the same features, 1/4in in, high low gain, and pre-outs. And the only power spec that is given is 1.3W at 50ohm which is the same as the Magni 3. Price is $99 (same as Magni 3) and release date is June 26th. https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=33304

Then there is the Alex Cavalli Liquid Plantinum Amp. This is a fully balanced Amp that I'm assuming is a tube hybrid becuase it appears similar to other Amp's of the Cavalli's like the Massdrop CTH. This one also has very little known about it and the only images are 3D renders. It is claiming some impressive power, 3.6W out of the balanced at 50hm. Price is $699.99 and release date is June 26th. https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=33305

foobar2000, JRiver, or if you have money you can use Roon. As long as the player connects directly to the DAC there shouldn't be any difference, ideally what you want is to sent the data intact and some players use the windows mixer which is not ideal.

You can start with one and progress along with your budget. You can reach 11 channels if you want, just add two subwoofers and then you would have a 11.2 system based on JBL LSR 305. The sky is the limit. But I’ll recommend a Modi and Magni for the first two.

You have too much marketing in your head. The JBL are monitor speakers that are good for stereo systems. For the amount of money you want to spend, you'll get more quality out of a good stereo system than from a cheap surround one. You can of course ignore this and go buy the cheapest thing that has most logos in the box if that makes you happy.

We have been over this before... You need to buy TWO, this is how it is when you look at proper speakers and not some shitty ass "gaming" system. Go to basically any audio store and the price is PER speaker and not for a set.
Just as a exsample look at this site, it is one of the biggest semi-pro/pro audio websites in the EU. The prices you see on the speakers is for one single speaker, unless it says price for pair.
    https://www.thomann.de/gb/active_nearfield_monitors.html

No it isn't surround sound, how can it be surround sound when you only have two. It supports analog signals that you sound card or whatever DAC you hook up to it makes. The actual audio quality coming from the LSR 305 outclasses the katana by many worlds.

Also you seem to have this idea that more bits= better, which is wrong on so many level. I have a old NOS DAC that only does 16/44.1, it is way more detailed than a Schiit Bifrost multibit, which without any problem is many times better than that 32/384 soundblaster.

It is about how well it can make the digital signal into a analog one, NOT about how many bits it supports. It can support 32/384 and sound like ass and it can sound amazing and "only" support 16/44.1 or 24/192. Music is typically also only made 16/44.1 or 24/96 and 24/96 is typically a waste of space and money.

You either get the best quality for your money or you get that bad gear.

    Best setup: Modi 2 Uber + magni 3 + two LSR 305
Second best: Soundblaster + two LSR 305
Waste of money: Soundblaster + Katana/Z906

The only way you will get just a okay'ish surround sound system is by going used. You might be able to find a decent surround system that is 5-10 years old for 300$

It depends on the design of the pads and headphones, most closed back headphones that have good seal are going to generate heat and sweat in your ears, try ones with more vented pads.

elira got a reaction from applesuxD in Cheap DAP Just for spotify?
I think such device is going to be hard to find, I'm 99% sure it doesn't exist. There are two kinds of DAPs the ones that only play audio from files and the ones that allow streaming services, the problem is that those that allow streaming use Android. As you might know companies prefer to use a OS that just works and has access to all the apps instead of creating a new one that will involve a lot of work and won't have support from mayor streaming services. So trying to find something that supports Spotify and doesn't have Android is going to be kind of imposible unless you buy something from Apple which will have again all the apps available.

In this case you have two options: auto control or buy your music and load files to a dumb DAP.

I got my k7xxs yesterday, and they are amazing. Here is how i would describe them. Very detailed, analytical highs and mids, tight but rumbling low bass. They are very comfortable and feel like nothing. (not joking its awesome) They are awesome for rock, some rap/hiphop with very low percussion and drums like Congratulations by Post Malone or Unforgettable by French montanta, some EDM like trap. They are IMO inferior to the 6xx for jazz, blues, house, anything with sweeter sound and more mid bass, low mids, sweeter and lower highs.

TLDR: Awesome, clean, detailed, not as smooth or sweet as the 6xx. I personally would prefer the k7xx for its better low bass and mid/high clarity

Maybe you damaged them, if you were listening to them at very high volumes and a lot of bass it could have damaged the drivers.

Also there could have been a manufacturing defect, you should try to use the warranty.

The HD800 are very good, but the sound is kind of bland. At that price point you need to try and get whatever you like, everyone is going to have different opinions. If you ask me I would buy a pair of GS1000e, some people hate Grados, some others hate Zeos, and others hate both.

    Just try before buying.

elira got a reaction from loculus in Line out to headphones.
That only happens if you have an ideal source that can provide infinite current, in reality line outs have a small amplifier designed for high impedance inputs, so they don't provide tons of current.

Imagine a normal amp with input impedance of 10k ohms, line out is tipically 2V, so you only need 0.2 mA. If you connect low impedance headphones say a 32 ohms, then at 2V you'll need 62mA, and that is 2 orders of magnitude bigger.

Using only the potentiometer may work depending on the implementation of the line  out and the headphones, but line outs are certainly not made to be used that way.
