  1. With the RTX 3070 launch, Nvidia caps off the third of its high-profile RTX 30-series releases, but while performance has been outstanding, few can get them. Will the RTX 3070 be any different?
  2. There are dozens of CPUs on the market for both productivity and gaming, but one stands tall above the rest – Why is everyone buying it?
  3. Nvidia’s G-SYNC module hasn’t had a lot of love lately, but that all changes with new Reflex-enabled displays like the ASUS ROG SWIFT PG259QNR, which can tell you just how slow your game really is.
  4. Dr. Lisa Su has guided AMD in three short years from being the scrappy underdog to finally overtaking Intel’s best in nearly every category. Where do we go from here? 5. Yeah, hard shutdown. If that's how you see it, there's no helping it. I try to find the good in everything I bench, so if being jaded and cynical is what's needed to be seen as impartial, then I guess we'll always be shills.
  6. The 850W unit was a SeaSonic PRIME Platinum SSR-850PD. I can confirm that it was a coincidence that SeaSonic didn't sponsor the video - Sponsors don't work that way, and we didn't say anything to them either way (the unit is older-gen). As for the rest of this thread, I don't know why anybody actually cares about 8K gaming, and it was only included because Nvidia marketed the card that way (similar to GamersNexus' focus on 8K gaming benchmarks because that's what Nvidia was yelling about). Our conclusion was that nobody outside of the niche enthusiast and maybe very complex 3D modeling space should even consider the card, so I'm not sure why people think we're trying to market the thing. You can look at something's strengths without crapping on it at every turn. That's all I have to say about it.
  7. We did show 8K performance both with DLSS on and off in Wolfenstein. As for why not more 8K testing, that's mostly because I primarily wanted to compare with other cards, and I figured that most people wouldn't actually care about 8K in detail for reasons outlined in the run-up to the 8K section of the video (who has an 8K display?). TL;DR I wanted to do a broader range of tests to keep things relevant.
  8. Nvidia’s not done yet – Their brand new, fastest-ever GPU just got smoked by their own RTX 3090. But is it good enough to fork over $1500? 10. Apple's transition to ARM hardware hasn't landed yet, but the new 27" iMac was just refreshed. With obsolescence right around the corner, is there any reason you should buy one? 11. When Nvidia asked us to attend a presentation on something “not graphics related”, we had no idea how much we’d love what they were about to show us…
  12. Windows 10 is known to come with a lot of telemetry and other “features” that reduce privacy in order to work as “software as a service”. Thankfully, there’s an effort to ameliorate this… Check out Windows 10 Ameliorated: https://ameliorated.info/
  13. 2011's top tier product was the GTX 590 at $599, making the FX 5950 Ultra roughly the same price in 2011 dollars. You can argue that we should still only be paying about that much (~$700 today - So RTX 3080) for top-tier performance instead of expanding the line with Titans, but you can't really call it inconsistent. I don't intend to get bogged down in the argument here, so I'll leave it at that.
  14. That seems pretty arbitrary if the goal was to list the top-tier cards for each generation.
  15. Since I'm brushing up on this stuff anyway for obvious reasons... If you're comparing against the RTX 3090, you missed a few: 2006 --- GeForce 7950 GX2 --- $600 --- $771 2007 --- GeForce 8800 Ultra --- $830 --- $1,037 2008 --- GeForce 9800 GX2 --- $666 --- $801 2009 --- GeForce GTX 295 ---- $499 --- $603 2011 --- GeForce GTX 590 ---- $699 --- $805 2012 --- GeForce GTX 690 ---- $999 --- $1,127 Still high, though not higher than some previous Titans, assuming it is one: 2013 --- GeForce GTX Titan (Kepler) --------- $999 ------ $1,111 2014 --- GeForce GTX Titan Black (Kepler) - $999 ------ $1,093 2014 --- GeForce GTX Titan Z (2x Kepler) --- $2.999 --- $3,282 (yes, three Kepler Titans) 2015 --- GeForce GTX Titan X ------------------ $999 ------ $1,092 2016 --- Nvidia Titan X (Pascal) ----------------- $1,200 --- $1,295 2017 --- Nvidia Titan Xp --------------------------- $1,200 --- $1,268 2017 --- Nvidia Titan V ----------------------------- $2,999 --- $3,170 2019 --- Nvidia Titan RTX ------------------------- $2,499 --- $2,533 (released December 2018, using 2019 inflation) So about $200 - 400 higher than a "typical" Titan release depending on which era you consider typical. RTX 3080 pricing is on the high end of the scale but not out of line for an 80-series card:
  16. Nvidia’s GeForce Ultimate Countdown turned out to be the RTX 3000 series reveal, and I’ve got some thoughts…

  21. Windows 10’s April 2020 update was delayed for a long time, but now that it’s generally available, there are a few goodies lurking within that may improve your gaming experience…
  22. Thought about it, I had two more floating shelves planned for installation but I also originally planned on a 65" TV - so those plans went out the window.
  23. Seriously, I wish you the best of luck in this. I know it's not really about luck, but sometimes when it comes to willpower and just being able to keep yourself sane, conditions have to be just right for you to keep from breaking. I've slipped countless times, and the best advice I can give you is to not give into the temptation to demonize yourself if you end up doing the same, because if you hate yourself, chances are you're not going to be motivated to help yourself, either. If you're quitting both vices cold turkey, then I would advise that you accept that you can and very likely will struggle with your vices, and accept that you may end up cracking and taking a drink or having a smoke. Avoid it, but don't beat yourself up for it; Accept it as a bump in the road and move on. If you imagine you're a dog on a leash, rushing ahead is only going to choke you. You may be able to handle that (some people can), or you may not. With that in mind, sometimes in order to move forward, we need to take a step backward to give ourselves a little room to breathe. While it's okay and even expected that you'll slip here and there, that's not to say that it's okay to consistently relapse. If you aren't making progress over long periods of time, then you need to re-evaluate what you're doing and adjust the plan accordingly. That's part of what I'm doing with my VR gaming setup (and the KitchenAid mixer, and so on). Accountability also helps - Now I've got the whole internet watching me for progress after announcing that that's my intent. It's really amazing to see that I've managed to motivate you to this point, and again, I really hope it works out for you. I'll keep working at it if you will.
  24. Yeah, so you can basically just get a multi-port USB charger and plug your 5V 0.5-1.5A electronics into it. So I've got two HDMI switches, a Philips Hue bridge, the OSSC, a Super Nt, Genesis Mini, Raspberry Pi 3, Google Home Mini, and probably other stuff that can all just be powered off a single charger. All you need for devices that don't have a USB port is a barrel plug cable (and adapter to whatever size plug you need if it's not 5.5x2.1mm). I've got a few of these and an Anker PowerPort 10 in my Amazon cart for use in the new setup . Reduces the number of wall plugs from "fill a surge protector" down to 1, and you only have one AC-DC converter to worry about as far as power efficiency goes. EDIT: Oh yeah, and cables exist for things like charging a 3DS and a WiiU Tablet Controller via USB as well.
