Yeah, I love his channel but I can't argue with that tbh.
-
No, but I wouldn't rule out the possibility of a network that he's partnered with doing it. I don't know how Linus Media operates or whether they're even part of a network, but I have heard cases where a multi-channel network (or even sponsor) tries to make spurious claims on content they don't own.

Totally agree with ZenCarter. Carey's chat on that video was very toxic, but what he said in the video is valid. Linus or somebody representing him (or more likely, youtube's broken algorithm) either knowingly or unknowingly issued these copyright claims. Carey does tend to overreact, but he's the #1 trustworthy source (imo) for PC-related info on Youtube, so I believe him.

Oddly shaped USB port on Lenovo G470: what is it for?
SharKCS11 replied to SharKCS11's topic in Laptops and Pre-Built Systems
Further plot twist: I tried plugging my USB flash drive into it and it didn't fit! I've honestly never acknowledged this port's existence for the past several years and just assumed it wasn't USB. Or maybe I just suck at plugging in flash drives. -
Oddly shaped USB port on Lenovo G470: what is it for?
SharKCS11 replied to SharKCS11's topic in Laptops and Pre-Built Systems
The manual just says it's a USB port too, but the side notches match your eSATA picture. Maybe it's supposed to be eSATA in a different model and the G470 just has it replaced it with a USB port lol. -
Hey all I have had a Lenovo G470 for about 6 years now and just noticed that one of my USB ports is wider than the other two and has some kind of slot for a pin or something. I checked the device manual and it was just labeled as a USB 2.0 port, but it looks a lot different. Does anyone know what it is? I've attached a picture and the port in question is the leftmost port with the USB symbol above it. (Directly to the right of the HDMI) Thanks!

If you don't know how to code yet and you want to go in the OS direction, I'd recommend learning C or C++ first. There are many resources for this. I'd highly recommend the video series on TheNewboston: https://thenewboston.com/videos.php?cat=14 This will at least get you started on the syntax and basics of C programming. Building an operating system isn't something I know a ton about, but starting out with just the basics of programming will get you going in the right direction.

Hello! I've just installed Windows on by new build and want to dual-boot with Kubuntu 17.04. I've actually installed this exact combination on two other computers before, but this time I have a 240GB SSD that I'd like to use for booting and commonly used apps. I've already partitioned it so that there's about 75GB unallocated space left. What is the best way to manage the partitions? I usually just set up swap, "/", and "/home". I was thinking of putting "/" on the SSD and "/home" on the 1TB hard drive; will this let Kubuntu boot up quickly like Windows does? Also, I've never specified a "/boot" partition before. Is that necessary for this kind of a setup? I'm somewhat of a beginner at this so forgive me if any of these questions don't make sense ... Thanks in advance!

I had this exact problem using the Asrock B350M Pro4, as well as an ASUS B350M motherboard. The problem was the RAM. Even though it was listed in ASUS's Memory QVL, it didn't work. When I swapped to Crucial Ballistix DDR4-2400, it finally booted. Edit: To specify, I was using Team Dark 16GB DDR4-3000 MHz, not Corsair.

HDD Wont Initialize - Data error cyclic redundancy check
SharKCS11 replied to Haxxx's topic in Storage Devices
Sorry to hijack this old thread, but did you ever figure out what was going on? I'm having the same problem right now with a new hard drive. Windows can't initialize it, ubuntu can't create partitions on it, all because of "data error: cyclic redunadncy". I'm fearing that the drive I got was dead out of the box. -
[SOLVED] Ryzen 5 1600 - No Post, No BIOS, No Beeps
SharKCS11 replied to SharKCS11's topic in Troubleshooting
Hey everyone, problem solved! The associate at Micro Center told me to buy the Crucial Ballistix DDR4-2400 RAM and after swapping that out with the Team Dark one, it works fine. So the problem was not the Motherboard, CPU, or PSU, and the wild-goose-chase of replacing the motherboard was all for naught. Thankfully, it worked out in the end. This is kind of concerning though, because the Team Dark RAM I bought was listed in the Memory QVL on ASUS's website for that board. But I guess that doesn't automatically mean that it's supported? Anyway, thanks everyone for your suggestions! I'll edit my top post with the solution.- 16 replies
