I know that Autodesk Maya's view port in particular, likes opengl. Quadro drivers generally have better opengl optimization over their geforce counterpart. They are very much worth the money in particular scenarios.

    Pure Workstation Build Help

x99/x299 is probably out of the question then, at least i9 would be. According to your research, most of the software that your client would use wouldn't take advantage of that many cores anyway. Does a couple grand mean exactly 2000.00$?

Is PCIe expandability a concern? How about RAM? Some software prefers Fire Pro, and some software prefers Quadro. For example, I use blender, and blender likes using CUDA for GPU rendering.

Worse Noctua fan quality after moving production to China

Very true. It would be a lot more difficult to tell whether the motors internals are of lesser quality.

Worse Noctua fan quality after moving production to China

Glad to hear. I would expect random inspections from every manufacturer to be honest. Let's also try to remember that even though china is usually known for quantity over quality, there are decent production plants there as well. We honestly don't know whether the Chinese production plant was being cheap, or whether they made an honest mistake. Only time will tell on that part. Noctua, not doing a recall sucks though.

When you build a pc for a friend

Then I would really bug you! Not one, not two, but three separate A/Cs! But wait, there's more! One of them isn't an A/C at all! It's, "shudder" an evaporative cooler! The horror! Think of the children!!! I'll stop now.

    How to learn about computers

Books about technology get outdated so fast it's not even funny. The internet is your friend. Have you tried googling these very same questions?

What if Linus Water Cooled the entire office?

Using PVC may have helped with the corrosion. The whole project was pretty silly from the start, even if it was successful, the maintenance would have been a nightmare. Not to mention how unpractical the whole thing was. It was interesting to watch though. no no no no no no no NO. "Rolls up newspaper".

Will 1080p gaming be replaced by 1440p in the future?

Outside of gaming, 1440p is rarely used. I doubt that it will replace 1080p before 4k does.

    Parent PC Build question

Integrated graphics will probably do, the 980ti may be helpful if the software that she uses supports GPU encoding. It wouldn't hurt. How much ram does she have?

Anyone here do local PC repair?

Terrible income, and you have to deal with the occasional asshole customer. There are some that are successful, but any job where I have to deal with people make me not want to touch it with a 10 foot pole.

    Amd threadripper package

I personally like the look. I know that many people don't like premium packaging, as it does increase the cost of said product, but I always reuse the packaging for something else, so I don't mind.

Dear 'Ol Linus' (I know I'm not the first)

It honestly doesn't bother me too much, like you said, as long as the content is still up to snuff i'm OK with it. OK then, serious question. Do you have a better solution? As Linus has stated himself, he gets a significant increase in viewership when he creates stupid thumbnails.

Dear 'Ol Linus' (I know I'm not the first)

I believe that Linus said his thumbnails gave up to a 20% increase in views. If true, that is significant.

Dear 'Ol Linus' (I know I'm not the first)

Thank you. You don't have to be misleading to be click bait. That said, my problems with Linus's new video thumbnails are not that I find them "click baity", but that I find them obnoxious. I still watch his content however.

    Some help would be great!

A 1060 would probably be plenty for 1080p 60, 1080p 144 might be difficult for some of the more recent AAA games though. I have a laptop with a 965m and it runs 1080p 60 fine in most games.

Worse Noctua fan quality after moving production to China

Perhaps he likes the colors a little more? I actually somewhat like Noctua's color scheme, it feels "vintage". They look terrible in most builds though. I have never tried Noiseblocker, but I have heard nothing but good things from them, perhaps now is the time to try them out.

Worse Noctua fan quality after moving production to China

I was mainly referring to this image. Relax, i'm not saying that Noctua is shit now. I'm just saying that I expected tighter manufacturing tolerances from a company with a reputation such as Noctua. And that Noctua isn't the only premium fan manufacturer out there, so even if there is a difference, I will just buy something else. Edit: It's the small differences that separates the good products from the great products. And it's the even smaller differences that separates the great products from the superb products. I've always considered Noctua to make superb products, and while there will probably be little to no difference in performance between the two fans, I expect tighter manufacturing tolerances from a superb product.

    Some help would be great!

You failed to mention the resolution and refresh rate of your monitor, those are important factors. I would say that unless you have a good income, to go with the cheaper option. Laptops are harder to service than desktops, and if something like the GPU dies in your laptop, you ether have to send the laptop in for repairs or replace it, which is a much bigger hassle then in a desktop.
