Worse Noctua fan quality after moving production to China

be quiet! is nice, both in terms of ascetics and acoustics.

Dear 'Ol Linus' (I know I'm not the first)

It honestly doesn't bother me too much, like you said, as long as the content is still up to snuff i'm OK with it. OK then, serious question. Do you have a better solution? As Linus has stated himself, he gets a significant increase in viewership when he creates stupid thumbnails.

I believe that Linus said his thumbnails gave up to a 20% increase in views. If true, that is significant.

Dear 'Ol Linus' (I know I'm not the first)

Thank you. You don't have to be misleading to be click bait. That said, my problems with Linus's new video thumbnails are not that I find them "click baity", but that I find them obnoxious. I still watch his content however.

    Some help would be great!

A 1060 would probably be plenty for 1080p 60, 1080p 144 might be difficult for some of the more recent AAA games though. I have a laptop with a 965m and it runs 1080p 60 fine in most games.

Perhaps he likes the colors a little more? I actually somewhat like Noctua's color scheme, it feels "vintage". They look terrible in most builds though. I have never tried Noiseblocker, but I have heard nothing but good things from them, perhaps now is the time to try them out.

Worse Noctua fan quality after moving production to China

I was mainly referring to this image. Relax, i'm not saying that Noctua is shit now. I'm just saying that I expected tighter manufacturing tolerances from a company with a reputation such as Noctua. And that Noctua isn't the only premium fan manufacturer out there, so even if there is a difference, I will just buy something else. Edit: It's the small differences that separates the good products from the great products. And it's the even smaller differences that separates the great products from the superb products. I've always considered Noctua to make superb products, and while there will probably be little to no difference in performance between the two fans, I expect tighter manufacturing tolerances from a superb product.

You failed to mention the resolution and refresh rate of your monitor, those are important factors. I would say that unless you have a good income, to go with the cheaper option. Laptops are harder to service than desktops, and if something like the GPU dies in your laptop, you ether have to send the laptop in for repairs or replace it, which is a much bigger hassle then in a desktop.

    The new NZXT Puck

I don't mind premium headphone stands, but what the hell am I looking at? It looks terrible. The square shape will "dig in" to some headphone bands over time, thus "denting" the foam. It looks terrible. Not all cases are made out of ferromagnetic material. Did I mention that It looks terrible? Not worth 20 dollars, maybe if it was 5 dollars I would get it for my refrigerator, my little brother's art wont hang itself.
  10. Very few people use CRT monitors nowadays, and there are alternatives for paint. While I understand why Microsoft would deprecate screen savers, I don't understand Paint, it was an excellent lightweight tool for pixel art.

I have to say, i'm not thrilled about the news. Even if tests are done, and they come back negligible, the differences are quite large in some areas. I won't loose any sleep over it though, after all there are many quality brands. be quiet! Noiseblocker Thermalright Cryorig There are of course others, but those are the first ones that come to my mind.

Poll: A few questions regarding Threadripper vs i9

I agree, but I would go as far as to say that any chip ending with a k, and thus is overclock-able should have solder as their TIM. Intel as far as I know, has never cared to be the value option, they want to be seen as the premium option, and at this moment, they are. I, however have a hard time calling their chips premium when they cheap out on their TIM. I suppose that is fair, skylake x does seem to be a decent bump up from broadwell e. I render a fair amount, I prefer GPU rendering since I can use my computer normally with it(outside of gaming and other GPU intensive tasks). While I don't care about SLI or crossfire, a secondary GPU would allow me to even play games while rendering. I know that you can use more than one GPU on mainstream boards, if you run on x8, and while that is fine for games, i haven't seen many tests on how/if that affects rendering, when I build my new computer that is something that I definitely want to test. Long story short, I highly value PCIe lanes. The more the merrier. I didn't even think about that.

Poll: A few questions regarding Threadripper vs i9

I mostly agree with you. I don't think that delidding should ever become a regular thing though. I believe that Intel will really push clock speeds in a post ryzen world. I'm still skeptical on whether the higher core chips will be able to maintain their temps. I am not saying that is what I want though, I really hope that those chips are as awesome as they are expensive. Edit: What would you consider to be a halfway decent CPU cooler? I suppose that if you are paying 1000$+ on a CPU, that several hundred dollars for your cooler isn't out of the question.
  16. I am pretty certain that I am wanting to use the be quiet! dark base pro 900 for my next build. I wanted to ask a question about the case though. I am wanting to invert the motherboard, while i am going to get an air cooler at first, I may want to upgrade to an AIO in the future. If I have the motherboard inverted I would imagine that mounting the AIO on the top would be difficult. I don't necessarily mind mounting said AIO in the front, however I care about potentially loosing hard drive cages. Does anyone know if you mount a 280 mm in front, with the optical drive cages still installed, do you still have enough room for at least one hard drive cage?
  17. So you can put hard drive cages where the optical drive cages are? I didn't know that.
  18. OK, cool. I just need to check the radiator thickness, and tubing length before I buy an AIO, Thank you again.
  19. Wow, that was quite detailed, thank you. And that is with the optical drives still installed? I can't see them. I don't necessarily have to have them, but it would be nice to keep them installed.
  20. Does this mean that GPU prices will eventually go down again? That would be nice.

Where did you buy the monitor from? ASUS is pretty bad with RMAs. I believe that ASUS sends out a new monitor, but only if they determine that the back light bleed is unacceptable. ASUS may ask for pictures, and determine whether the back light bleed is unacceptable through that.

Poll: A few questions regarding Threadripper vs i9

I didn't know that, thanks for informing me. I was mainly referring to if that scenario would happen without overclocking. From what I have seen online, it seems that Threadripper will be able to turbo up to 4GHz, for a 16 core chip, that's impressive. As you add more cores, you generate more heat, with that in mind i'm not sure if the 7960x would be able to keep up, at least if the 7900x's thermals are anything to go by. That's why I said higher core i9s on my first question. Skylake x's thermals are bad, but not unmanageable. That may change when you add more cores. I have came to the conclusion that my first two questions were poorly worded, and too vague.

Poll: A few questions regarding Threadripper vs i9

I never said it wasn't, I didn't think that they were large enough factors. Do you think that Intel should have re evaluated their TDP for skylake x? Ah, thanks. Threadripper will use a lot of power, no doubt. If you got even 4.2 GHz on ryzen, you were lucky. AMD uses solder for their TIM, so Threadripper may have better temps with the same cooling hardware. I would like to clarify that when i said "So does mine." I was reffering to this sentance: If one chip needs to throttle because it can't handle its thermals while the other doesn't. And they are using the same cooler, that is worth discussing, yes? I wasn't referring to the first question on my poll.

Poll: A few questions regarding Threadripper vs i9

I corrected myself about the higher clock speed, unless it took you 30 minutes to respond to my post, you would have seen that. Perhaps Intel should have re evaluated skylake x's TDP? After all they are different processors. I haven't seen that article, informative read, a 140 TDP CPU should be getting lower temps with that cooling solution however. I thought the 7900x boosts up to 4.3GHz. Skylake x has trouble dissipating the heat it creates due to the TIM that it uses, while getting a more beefy cooling solution does work for the 10 core, it might not work for the 12, 14, 16 and 18 core chips that are coming out. Better TIM would give better heat dissipation, which would be helpful for everyone.

May I ask what game? I'm curious. Ryzen's IMC needs improvement.
