Maticks got a reaction from Needfuldoer in Plex lays off 20% of its staff
There is room in the UI for a thin Ad while not playing video, if that helps generate revenue for non-plex pass customers. That would at least translate more into plex pass and generate revenue from people who are happy with the free App.

Being a Plex user from the beta at the start, there was a heap of growth and what set Plex apart from XBMC it did the media playback better and metadata indexing.
Plex has added feature after feature on but instead of tackling how we can do video streaming better and related to the core reason people are using Plex they have lost their way.
In trying to do Music Streaming running a split app for that on several platforms. then going into camera roll and arcade games.
Bugs that are still unresolved in Sync got rolled into Downloads which across the board is inconsistent in experience some platforms it falls randomly for no reason.
Watching video is a key reason people are using Plex but because of all the side projects these problems are left unresolved.

I hope with this removal of staff is also a rethink of getting Plex back to its core values of what the program is and focus hard on making it the best platform to watch video on anywhere on anything.

I am still personally running Server version 1.25.9.5721 because Samsung TV's don't work externally connecting to the server after updating past this version.

I have had nothing but issues with this same motherboard even tried bios upgrades it didn't post reliability at all.
Sometimes needs a clear CMOS to post sometimes it just needs a good 20 minutes to boot.

They called it the right name, its TUF to game on a system that won't post.
After spending $300 on another Ram kit it still won't post, so now looking at RMA the board.
Seems common though i wish Asus would accept they have issues here.

But i am using a waterblock, guess its pulling a lot of heat away i did also use Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut Extreme since it was recommended by a few people with these processors.

One of the reasons I updated to win 11 was to run native android apps you still can’t do that outside of the USA.

They really need to finish what was promised in windows 11 before doing 12.

I do love the new look and it does feel more productive. Restore apps on restart is a nice touch.
There are a few bugs in both apps you use that worked fine in windows 10. To just some weird things with resources. Hopefully an update isn’t far away to address some of the problems.
we finally have Mac OS X for windows. The gap between using a Mac and windows is much closer now.

Maticks got a reaction from xg32 in G9 Odyssey Neo problems
revised... still seeing weird once off flickering gaming it's not often its one flicker every 30 minutes on average but still annoying on firmware 1006.1
dropped from 240Hz down to 120Hz no more flickering for 4 hours now so still something strange is happening at 240Hz even though FPS are averaging 150-160FPS.
Always the top 5CM's in a band flickers to a black then back to the screen when it happens its 1 second its horizontal the whole screen.
never everywhere else on the screen, really annoying.

installed the new firmware.. seems to have fixed the VRR Control issue it now stays on when the monitor goes into standby.
Flickering now is present at Black Equalizer 13 which it wasn't before now it stops flickering at 9.
Not sure if that means they've changed other things but now can run at 240Hz without flickering.

Still see scanlines present on benchmarks https://www.testufo.com/inversion#pattern=uniformity&ppf=5

Maticks got a reaction from Mark Kaine in Microsoft to "maybe" withhold driver and security updates from "unsupported" Windows 11 installs
Really wish Microsoft would split drivers from the OS, updating drivers is usually what breaks peoples systems.
If you update your own Nvidia Driver for example and something breaks you know its that.
if Microsoft updates your Nvidia Drivers you probably just have blue screens and have no idea why.

Should be split or at least in a different menu to update Drivers from the main OS updates.
Classic example Microsoft updates Intel Raid Drivers, system didn't like the update now bluescreens on boot, only option is reinstall.

HDR gaming is the least of its issues.
I've had mine for 3 days now and the flickering even loading a webpage is so annoying.
    It's full screen flickering.
I have found a workaround where changing the color from RGB to 444 and creating a custom refresh rate of 100Hz has stopped it.
G9 Neo clearly went to Alpha testing and the customers are Beta testing it for Samsung.

So basically getting rid of the colors and dropping the refresh rate fixes it 99% turning off Adaptive Sync at 120Hz completely fixes it.
But whats the point of this display having no features lol.

And if you have an Nvidia GPU you need VRR Control On in the System menu to stop game flickering regardless of this workaround.
Here it the funny part, every setting in the monitor is remembed but the VRR Control, everytime the monitor goes into Standby you need to turn it back on.

For a $2,999 monitor it very much has $1,200 feel..

using the same brush, will Telsa stop selling cars because the power being used to fill them is from coal in most countries?

How many mining rigs equals a Telsa car recharging every day?

Maticks got a reaction from WinNT in To UNRAID or NOT and more
I've had a Synology box doing my home NAS stuff, Plex and other apps. yeah it works well its low power and all that.
It doesn't Transcode a heap of files, yeah sure it does a few streams at good enough quality but if you hit a limit thats it you are at a limit.
Also its propitiatory hardware, my power supply died in my Synology and it was a pain to get the data off of it.
I've also had two hard drives die at once in Synology and lost all my data before.

Unraid i've been running for 5 years and love it.
With a "true" Raid setup  RAID5/6/10 you get a lot of performance, this is what FreeNAS and others use.
Unraid has adopted a different approach, the trade off is a little bit less performance but there are gains in other area's.

With a True Raid setup you have to put all the same size disks into your system, when you add a new disk to the array you must rebuild it for upgrading.
If you have a two disk failure setup you lose your two disks and thats is your data is gone.

With Unraid you put in your largest disk as your Parity Drive or Two Parity Drives.
Unraid lets you add in Data Drives of that size or smaller.
If you have Two Parity Drives you can lose either a Parity Drive or Two Data Disks and can rebuild them.
You can add up to 28 Data Disks that are protected by the two Parity Drives.
Unraid doesn't consume part of the array Data Drives for space for the Array.

If you lost more than 2 Data Drives you only lose the Data on those Disks.
The Data on the Data Drives isn't stripped across several disks like normal Raid a loss of the Array isn't complete loss of everything.
You only lose the data on the Data Drive you lost if you also lost 2 Parity Drives as well.

Unraid has VM, Docker Management. You can put your CPU in Power Save Mode.
Because of how Unraid works with Share Folders you can tell it to populate the least used disk with Data or move on when a Data Disk is full.
It is really up to how you want to load up data on the drives, but you can also spin down all your disks to save power if you wish.

Unlike normal Raid where all drives need to run 24x7 Unraid doesn't require all disks to be running unless doing a Parity Check or Drive Rebuild.

If you have a complete meltdown your Data Drives are independent you can always put all your disks and build a new set of Parity Data without issue.
Though you won't get the performance of a Raid the trade off is true flexibility.

Maticks got a reaction from elontusk69 in Potential thermal throttle on my one of my 3080's, pls help :-(
There are a few threads about riser cards causing issues with FPS. with Riser Cards there are many types of quality with them and also the 3080 sucks a decent amount of power over the PCI Express port.
I would probably try switching your EVGA and Gigabyte cards around so the Gigabyte card was on the motherboard directly.
See if the FPS pick up and the EVGA card starts dropping frames.

I did see some people setting the PCI Express slot to 3.0 Forced when they have a 3.0 Riser Cable. It's likely one of these problems that has several fixes.
is it this type of riser cable?

If it's one of these ones then thats likely your issue.
