  1. plain and simple, eyeing up a laptop (9750h and rtx 2070 max q) and want it to replace my laptop and desktop due to my lifestyle and how i'm not home enough to play games on my desktop but my laptop isn't powerful enough to play games on the go, i thought about compromising and getting a lower spec laptop but i will be selling my pc to offset the cost anyways. So i guess the question is, how does the proposed laptop spec compare to my desktop (r5 1600 and gtx 1070ti) TLDR: i7 9750h/rtx 2070 maxq vs r5 1600/1070ti
  2. 80 c is 20 below thermal max for your gpu, dont worry about it, if it gets up to 90, thats an issue
  3. Upon trying to boot this laptop back to windows (initially it was windows, then ubuntu, now need it back to windows) I get this strange black screen with coloured dots at the top, any ideas?
  4. after time windows does slow down, a fresh install might help slightly
  5. our lecturers are using ZOOM for webinars and 1 to 1 conferences and then echo360 for pre recorded lectures, these seem to work quite well
  6. half and half, I plan to build a storage server with 50tb so scaled down but the 500tb is theoretical for some research, appreciate your help
  7. Thankyou very much, this is all the information i needed I thought raid 6 was more computationally heavy?
  8. on a 500tb (50x 10tb) storage server with 10 parity, there would be 400tb usuable, correct? How does it work exactly? with 100tb for redundancy that would imply 10 raid sets with 1 drive each for redundancy but as far as i was aware the raid sets were 4 drives? so with 10 redundancy drives there should be 30 usable drives? that leaves 100tb for redundancy with only 300tb usable? where does the extra 100tb go? is that for the raid 0 portion of the 5+0? I guess as a follow up question if thats correct does that mean any data stored in the raid 0 drives would be lost on failure?
  9. unfortunately, it doesn't seem like your mobo supports this (ASUS x470 Pro-Prime) seek RMA support from asus or the seller
  10. read up on it for a bit, normally you have to move just the bios onto a formatted usb stick, plug into mobo usb, press the "flash" button and itll do its thing
  11. but it boots to bios? edit: i see it does not, best bet is to attempt to rma the board, ram sticks are pretty rugged, does your board have usb bios flashing? if so try to reflash the bios
  12. try rebooting with 1 stick, i doubt you have broke any components
  13. by the look of the 2019 models with the 8th and 9th gen intel chips it doesn't look too likely they will be changing over to AMD chips, in an ideal world they will have an option for both but I wouldn't get too excited theorycrafting a perfect laptop as they will do whatever they feel necessary and the current 10th gen intel mobile chips are looking promising.
  14. March is when nvidia say they will be releasing the 3000 series, expect 3000 series laptops from like april/june onwards
  15. by the specs of the pc, I won't assume you have the emans to test each major component individually, now if you do, this is the easiest way of troubleshooting... e.g. different psu, different RAM etc etc. if not the easiest method would be to reinstall the OS and go from there
  16. idk, use whatever you're more comfortable with, I have offset too, im like plus 1 offset and all core oc 3.6 and i did it in BIOS
  17. Personally what I would do in your scenario is split the budget between a desktop with more horsepower and a cheaper 2 in 1 with a pen, this then meets your productivity needs for the laptop and also the functionality of the desktop
  18. it CAN boost to that under good thermals, 3.4 is still an ok boost, I personally have my 1600 ocd and locked at 3.6 ghz on all cores with stock cooler so if you wished to oc, this is possible
  19. there are plenty of demanding games that have very active communities, people who want to play these games and become immersed need high end machines. BUUUT, a high end PC is only really worth what games you would play on it, I have a mid range machine myself bc I don't play too many demanding games, I enjoy 1080p high fps so I am fine ?
  20. you're post is very vague so I will describe a few situations, please tell me if any are correct 1: You are overclocking to 3.4 ghz and its reporting this, this is natural for it to be within a few mhz off of 3.4 2: You are overclocking to above 3.392 and its sticking at this, try updating BIOS and check for AGESA updates. 3: no overclocking and this is normal boost clocks, again this is normal for this cpu, it will settle around 3.3-3.6 in my experience with the 1600
  21. always ask yourself, do you NEED to have a laptop when a desktop would do everything you need and more? Personally I need a laptop due to how often I am away from home; so having a slightly worse laptop and a dedicated desktop didn't make too much sense so while i'd prefer a full desktop and a lesser laptop, I NEEDED a high powered laptop.
  22. I'm not dismissing that there is a QC issue (or at least there was) I'm specifically referring to the newer 15 inch ones where afaik there isn't a large enough sample group, e.g. a company buying many of them, to make assumptions about qc issues in new blades, bc as I said people don't very often give feedback if their laptop works fine with no issues and until that happens I won't be partaking in dissing or praising the new blades, only commenting to give alternate views on it
  23. so the unfortunate problem with the razer blade is that the internet is flooded with poor reviews and bad RMA experiences. You don't hear about the cases where there are no issues because people who have a working laptop don't feel the need to shout about it, my friend got the base model blade as soon as it came out and it has been completely fine since then, the choice is yours. As far as RMA processes goes.... Yeah its bad, as someone has mentioned an experience with the razer phone I will be brief about mine, I simply had faults with my phone as soon as I turned it on really, I sent it back and got a replacement, then the speaker grills fell off, they said they wont be able to RMA it.... TL:DR - don't just take every bad review as the only reviews
  24. I had it typed out but i thought no one would really consider it, you'd have to open it up to see if your wifi adaptor has the same connector, but then youre playing games without wifi
