Even so the impression remains, they didn't really try - and there could have been solutions developed, like an app even if just temporarily (I'm pretty sure people wouldn't have minded if it was for this reason)
I also think pre-orders would have actually helped, tho I'm not entirely sure about that.

So yes it's possible but "difficult" , it just makes it look there wasn't actually a lot of stock and not a lot of will to stop scalpers.

in hindsight a paper launch wasn't actually the worst thing to happen however, with all the issues cropping up now (although the FE cards might be unaffected?)

The simplest solution is for everybody to just not buy products second hand at or near launch.  Let the botters sit on their inventory for a few months.  This is obviously impossible because we humans are hedonistic and if we perceive something to be 1337, we'll buy it.

Another option is for the major auction/online sales sites to agree to product embargos close to launch.  This wouldn't eliminate it, but it would drive it underground where buyers are harder to come by.

Another option would be for us to review bomb anybody selling these high-demand items on eBay so they'd run out of decent accounts to sell their products through.  Or, as some are doing now, bid up the products very high and don't follow through on the purchase.  Sort of a "burn it all down" tactic.

Yes I agree its very possible. But as far as web based sites go, only Shopify has been able to ever stop it, and it only worked on one release last month. Shopify has years and years of data from bots, and owns many botting software to grow and perfect their anti-bot. Nvidia has only had 2 drops.

I have been botting sneakers for over a year now, and have purchased hundreds of items with bots.
Now that the botting world is merging with the PC world, I thought I'd clear some things up, as nearly everything I've seen about botting from PC users perspective is blatantly wrong.

    1. The use of Captchas
Captchas do NOTHING to stop bots. Work arounds such as one clicks exist, and the bot opens up the window for the user to solve them manually. Just works to slow down botters and manual users, botters will always still take stock.

    2. Raffling the cards
I've seen this idea thrown out a lot, but raffle botting is even easier than fcfs botting in some cases

    3. Accounts/SMS
It is very easy for botters to make multiple accounts, be active on them, and age them. Even if SMS verification is required. As for SMS verification, a shoe store tried that, but bots hit even more, as the backend cookies were the same, making it an easy bypass.

The only two sites I've ever seen completely stop bots is the US Nike SNKRS app, partly because its an app, and Shopify, when they really want to.

I really hope this helps. Please ask any other questions about botting you may have in the comments. I just dislike the misinformation being spread and want to help the rest of the community understand.

Update: Just dropped at 10:11 am est on nvidias site.

I'm going to start this off by saying that it has only been around an hour since the product showed out of stock on NVIDIA website. The issue with it showing out of stock, is that NVIDIA never actually loaded the product for sale, they just changes the button. Linked below is the endpoint data, and if you look, you don't see 3080 anywhere (https://api.digitalriver.com/v1/shoppers/me/products?format=json&apiKey=9485fa7b159e42edb08a83bde0d83dia&pageNumber=2&sort=listPrice-desc) . It is also no where in back end. The image I linked below is of automation software for Nvidias site, which also didn't detect a new product loaded since 3am est last night. Nvidia could've never released it without loading it onto there site, so they clearly never had stock to begin with. Im trying to put together what happened so please let me know if you guys know anything else.

Not the full story. I ran bots for nvidia and bestbuy and didn't hit. Stock was so limited most bots didn't even hit.

The worst thing is there is just NO good communication coming from any level whatsoever.  Last night i got on the phone with BestBuy, the guy on the phone took 20 min to try and locate the card for me and let me know if there was stock to come back and find that he cant see anything in the system and said there is nothing physically there.

Call this morning and they tell me they sold out of their in store inventory in pre-orders on-line last night, PRE-ORDERS?!  Ive been checking the site for a few days now, pre-orders were never part of the equation, did they open pre-orders at like 3:00 AM or some shit?.  what the actual fuck, its so frustrating.

Yea that was pretty much it, they needed to be out before AMD. Most devs just open a small browser window with the captcha so the user can solve it manually, then the bot does the rest for ATC and checkout, still will be faster than humans.

I've ran many bots, and know many devs closely, captchas so nothing to stop bots and are extremely easy to bypass. Even with an nvidia and bestbuy bot i still didnt hit.

I don't disagree, this is the first time i've seen it to this extent. Usually the companies sell like 10 then mark it out of stock, here they didn't even load a product.

they loaded the graphic and stuff on the frontend, but no actual stock was loaded in the backend. From purely looking at back end data you wouldn't even know the card exists. Them showing in on page and actually loading product are very different.

Probably didn't have any real stock and just wanted to get product out. Kinda sad they couldn't even sell a few cards tho

I always liked the old staff. Looking back at old csf videos and seeing Dennis, Jon, Colton, and Taran brings back so many memories, and a lot of them are no longer on camera, and there is no explanation on whether they are even still at LMG. I have nothing against the new employees, and they are great at what they do, but I would still like to see the “oldies” from time to time.
