  1. I can only answer nr 1. If you use a type 1 hypervisor then it will not matter. The hypervisor just needs to be able to run the VM you want. You will need to setup the correct VM and correct settings for Windows Server 2019. There a tons of guides for any hypervisor you want to use. (Just do not use ESXI )
  2. Every dB matters when you are talking about SNR. If its 7 there then call your ISP and let tem send a tech.
  3. Line attenuation is not SNR, Line attenuation is related to your distance from the distribution point. It means how much of the signal was lost while traveling to your house. It however says nothing about how noisy the signal is. Thats why you have SNR it will tell how how much signal there is vs noise. As a simple explanation: Lets say we are standing 50 meter apart and we are talking to each other. In a silent room that would be no problem. But lets say someone is drilling in between us: i'll need to shout now and maybe repeat thing. What u hear over the drill is the SNR. Its the effective signal that can be used. Anything below 10dB will cause issues. Best bet is placing the modem next to the provider point and test there. If there is still a bad SNR then call your provider. If its good, see if you can leave it there and work with network cables from there to switches and such.
  4. VDSL / ADSL is very much dependent on 2 things (more but these 2 dictate most) Distance from the distribution point, the father you are away the worse it will be. Interference, the list of things that interfere with DSL is long and things in that list are in most all houses. (1) Distance is something you have no influence on. The extra length in your house is not the issue, the way it acts like an antenna in your house does however. (2) Interference is something you can deal with, The cable from the telecom provider is most likely shielded up until your house. The moment that stops any extra length will start to pick up interference. So either: use shielded cable to your modem or keep your modem as close to the telecom provider as close as possible.
  5. He is running the tools now to see if any data can be recovered. Gonna take a while. He might have to dish out for a professional recovery tho, anyway lesson learned This was not about installing W11, but the mediacreation tool picking his HDD with foto's and such to use as USB drive
  6. So my little brother is getting a new pc, and to prepare i told him to use the mediacreation tool to make the W11 USB. Now for some reason the tool picked out a HDD he prob had as a removal device in windows. Problem is thats a 2TB HDD with alot of pictures and stuff he wants to keep. I already scolded him about his backup practices (lack thereoff) so lets not go there Is this something easily solvable with a software tool (he might lose the data that the W11 install files occupy)? I know he could send it somewhere, but thats gonna be hella expensive. Any experience with using tools designed for this?
  7. Bit stumped about this, and Google isnt helping as i get pages and pages about disabling/enabling this but not what i want. What i want is this: When a cell starts to autocomplete you get the result in gray, enetering or pressing alt or a arrow key will move me to another cell and it will have autocompleted. But i want to autocomplte and add text to the end of it. Is there a shortcut for this? or do i just need to autocomplete and then edit the cell again?
  8. The B450 are not as available as the B550 here, but i see more budget boards like A520 are. Found an Asrock A520M-HDV for 56€ with the memory that would bring it down to 95€ (Both send back unused to store items, with their warranty intact) So far watching the 5600X vs others in AM4 i see no real reason for me to upgrade higher, looks like its the sweetspot cost, power usage (crazy prices here) and upgrade wise. That was always the plan yes, if only that i just swap out the CPU and wont have to touch my Windows install
  9. I am running a Ryzen 3600 that i want to pass on to my oldest kid (who is running a i5 7600) and his setup to the youngest. (who is in dire need of a faster CPU ) Since i mostly play WoW, i'm looking for a good fit for that CPU wise (raiding). In the latest patch with addons i notice my 3600 is starting to dip below 60FPS So good as any reason to upgrade Atm i have: Aorus x570 motherboard R5 3600 2070 Super My plan was to get a 5800X3D and a cheap B550 motherboard with 16GB for the 3600 to pass on. (would be just 120€) But going over benchmarks i'm not seeing a good reason to dish out 150€ more for the 5800X3D. (5600X = 153€ vs 5800X3D = 332€) With my 2070Super i think i will be GPU bound before CPU anyway with newer games? Now for WoW: the only benchmark with these 2 i could find was a Gryphon run that does not really show raid conditions. Anyone here has experience with the 5600X or 5800X3D in WoW?
  10. @seanondemand Seeing your and the others their reply i'll make an inquiry about rental for a few days. Depending on how much it cost i might just take it for the whole vacation. I also see that all 3 Walmarts i found are supercenters. @P e r s e p h o n e I'll have a look at the 2 you suggested. @wanderingfool2 We will be staying at one of the Disney certified hotels, that one has a shuttle bus to the parks. So regardless of renting a car we will be using the busses anyway. Will also be looking at whatever system they have now. Genie+? Last time there was the fastpass system.... We will figure it out. Thanks you all for the tips. As an extra afterthought: Since both the wife and my oldest are Harry Potter fans they might want to go to Universal studios. But i see if you want to ride the train you need to pay for 2 parks? Bit steep for 1 day 164 Dollar per ticket. (And yes, Disney aint cheap )
  11. So this summer we will be flying to Orlando (MCO) from The Netherlands to then spend 2 weeks in Disney. Last time i went there it was just with my wife and now with our 2 kids, now that they are old enough so the ticket isnt a waste. The oldest really wants to see a Walmart as we just have "normal" supermarkts here. I have 3 questions for anyone from Orlando or a frequent Disney fan. When we land at Orlando International and want to go to one of the Disney hotels i see the Bus is suspended since covid. Is my best bet a taxi or Uber? I have 0 experience with both in Orlando. Which of the Walmarts in Orlando is our best bet? i can see 3. But have no idea which one would be the best for a tourist trip Is renting a car worth it? i have no idea how the prices are now and never drove in the US. Thanks for reading.
  12. Looking to setup 12 HDMI extenders, ACT AC7851 fed by an ACT AC7850. These extender work in point to multipoint using a normal network. From experience i know that using them in the normal office/home network they tend to drown out normal traffic, so i'm just going to use a separate switch for them (cabling is already separate) I was thinking of using a managed switch that can act as a DHCP server (would save me the hassle from setting up each device with a fixed IP). Can any managed switch do this? So many switches and i do not know enough about them if: A. A switch alone would suffice B. What managed switches have a DHCP server? Any nod in the right direction would be appreciated.
  13. U can use the install USB or DVD to do a live run to see if all drivers work. After that u can install it if everything works.
  14. Powerline has some issues but the biggest problem is that is alot more interference then a few years back. From your power company that uses digital signals on the cable to do the work the old pulse clocks once did to the fact that there are alot more signals in the air. Your wires are not twisted or have any shielding and will act as a giant antenne to pick up all kind of crap which your powerline adapter has to deal with. You should be able to see that in a signal / noise page? Lets say the signal strength is 80% but the noise is 60%, so you'll just have the 20% left for the actual bandwith.
  15. AC isnt different from DC in the way a circuit acts. Instead of a positive you'll have a phase and a common (which is tied to earth alot of times). When you create a floating circuit like a car it will act the same way and you can "safely" touch it (if everything is in working order). Since there is no path from the generator/battery through you to ground.
  16. So we just moved to a new location and now i'm busy figuring out what todo with the entrance. At the entrance we want a screen with a welcome message and an intercom function for ourself and the top floor we are renting out atm. I was thinking about getting a touchscreen with mic and webcam (https://iiyama.com/gb_en/products/prolite-t2735msc-b3/) and hooking up a pc/nuc. The problem i'm facing is that the screen will have to run 2-3 different programs and i want have them in 1 screen. That would be the intercom (sip based), welcome/attendance (if the company is in) and some home automation stuff (knx). None of it has to be windows so if there is a better way in linux let me know Any ideas in which direction i should look?
  17. Ah, i thought you meant in bulk as in 100+ of them at once. You mean the cable you run from outlets/camera's to the patch room. While there are colored cables (in 500m boxes) we usually dont bother with that and only use colors from the patch panel to the switch or whatever device
  18. How are you searching? Looking for red patch cables and i get pages filled with them. Most links even lead to pages where you pick the color.
  19. Played them all, Loved HW1 and Cataclysm and the endless amount of mods that i used and contributed to some (Like the Star Wars vs Star Trek by Zeelich) Couldnt get into HW2, where HW1 was a micro management dream for me, like using support frigates with a mix of fighters, bombers and corvettes to assault their supply line. While drawing fire with a bigger ship group and retreating when their supply line was destroyed Plus i loved the HW1 and Cataclysm storyline... HW2 not so much Desert of Kharak was a fun short game but nothing i played like the 2 mentioned above. Remastered is a poor job of converting HW1 into the HW2 engine, you'll need alot of mods to get it to play nice. For 1 formations are crap now... Played them for a few minutes and uninstalled. HW: Emergence is HW: Cataclysm but they had to change name. And if you play that one keep in mind what it is: HW: Cataclysm is HW:1 but with alot of hacks to add new abilities to the game. There is no source code due to being made by another company so its not possible for now to adjust it to modern OSés. It will crash alot sadly and you'll need to hack 16:9. Just save alot and enjoy the story
  20. Valorant is know todo that. If i remember correctly its coded to use the CPU more then the GPU so it will run on low end machines better. Either way most ppl found setting the max fps to the screen HZ fixed the 100% load.
  21. Dont tell me u are blocking Tom Scott? You monster!
  22. I did disable the firewall on the server tho. For some reason having the windows 10 client on public network works for now. I'll prob just let it be like this till we install all the stuff in the new building and get another IT company to sort this out.
  23. So in our small office we have a Windows 2016 server thats running a SQL database for our planning software. I installed some new computers, added them to the domain via the azure cloud and all is working well. Now the network showed at public so i switched it to private, after switching the sql connection throws up an error about being unable to connect. Weird this is i still can see the 2016 server and all its shared folders. But when i switch back to public the error is gone Any ideas in which direction to search, the "IT" company has no clue why this is. And since we are moving end of this year and ending their contract i doubt they are looking very hard. I disabled and enabled the firewall on the clients and server. That did not work and i keep getting the unable to reach sql server message when on private network. For now they are on public and everything works. Just weird....
