  1. I've had good experience with the hyper 103 in my current rig. Idle it easily holds 30c (checked with the bios multiple times after testing a game) with 1 case fan (108mm). I'd do stress tests to see how high my temps get under load, but even under load I can't tell a temp difference. Honestly if it were possible I'd happily just use the hyper 103 but there's no plans to give the product an upgrade for am4 (checked with cooler master on that). Plus with the additional case fans cooling shouldn't be an issue. I have not though you could look at it like a safety net of sorts. The only calls linked to "Microsoft" I've had was one of those scam calls. Had fun that day.
  2. Replaced the ssd with a 120gb kingston. Removed cooler. If I do require a better cooler in future I just remembered I can get a hyper 212 for about £40. Whilst an OEM is tempting I'd rather not have to deal with being potentially turned down by microsoft support if I run into a problem.
  3. So I've asked before but since I've made a couple of changes and have been trying to keep prices down as best as I can. The rig is for general/ game streaming, video editing, audio editing and gaming with possibly some 3D rendering stuff. (Apologies in advance since I'm probably not going to be able to reply for a while I'm doing a lot of stuff) I already have a asus gtx 1050 2gb for the time being and I'll be upgrading to either a 1060 6gb or a 580 8gb depending on price when I save up a for one or the other. All components are from Amazon (would have liked to give newegg a go but the shipping costs is off-putting) Kingston Technology 60GB Solid State Drive V300 2.5-inch SATA 3 - £42.99 Noctua NH-U14S - NH-U14S Ultra-Quiet Slim CPU Cooler with NF-A15 Fan - £51.97 ASUS PRIME B350-PLUS AMD DDR4 S-ATA 600 ATX Motherboard - Black - £74.33 Windows 10 Home 32 bit/64 bit English International [USB Flash Drive] - £97.38 CiT Spectre 2x USB3 Gaming Case Side with Window Toolless Card Reader - Black - £31.86 WD Blue 1TB Desktop Hard Disk Drive - 7200 RPM SATA 6 Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5 Inch - £41.98 Corsair CMK16GX4M2A2400C16 Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4 2400 MHz - £110.02 AMD Ryzen 7 1700 65 W 8/16 Core 3.7 GHz 4 MB CPU - Black - £290.98 Corsair CP-9020097-UK VS Series ATX/EPS 80 PLUS Power Supply Unit, 550 W - £38.39 Total: £779.90 I do not plan on overclocking the cpu any time soon (Current rig info) My current rig I got for free so I can't really complain about it AMD: Athlon II X2 240 2.80 ghz Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H Windows 7... 32gb 5gb ddr4 (because why not) 2.75 gb usable 500w psu (unbranded) ASUS ROG Strix: 2gb 1050 300 gb HDD Skyrim: Medium settings and high render distance no lower than 30fps (hd texture dlc included) - some stutter on textures but you have to look closely to find 'em. Fallout 3: Med and some high settings no lower than 30fps Warframe: Preset high settings average 40 fps solo - can reach lows of 15-12 fps under high enemy count while playing with others. Neverwinter: Never tested the fps, however apart from the character running animation I've had little trouble running about 30fps on both high and low settings. The only real problem I have with this rig is game crashes if I need to do something
  4. Thanks for the help! I'll be sure to let yall know when I finally get this built (with some benchmarks ofc)
  5. I forgot about partpicker I'm not too concerned about overclocking at least until my next build a few years from now. I'll be able to get some decent water cooling by then.Ideally. (probably should have mentioned, sorry.) I'll have another look for motherboards, thanks for the heads up! For the ram I was going off the pretense of "dual channel performance" upon looking I can see that it's a myth or so they say. (is that still correct?) I originally was going to go for an MSI GTX 1070 (I think... well a 1070 for sure), but in all honesty I'm not too fond of anything higher than 1080p gaming. I did consider the RX 480 but "Tech Deals" pretty much sold me on the 1060 superclock. The 8gb of vram on the 480 is quite tempting though. As for the cooler suggestion, I chose the noctua for its performance and how quiet it is. (My current rig runs an AMD Athlon II X2 240 and hearing the fans at an almost constant 50 - 100% speed can be distracting even with headphones on) Oh yeah as for an SSD I was planning on doing that later down the line and moving the OS to it.
  6. Hi there. I'm planning a Ryzen build to use as both a workstation, gaming and streaming rig. I've somewhat got an idea of the components, but would like a second opinion on the list. AMD Ryzen 1700 MSI B350 TOMAHAWK Corsair Vengeance LPX 8GB (2x4GB) 3000mhz WD Blue 1TB EVGA NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 Superclocked Noctua NH-U12S cooler EVGA 100-W1-0500-K3 - 500W NZXT CA-S340MB-GR Source 340 Midi Tower: I don't have much of a budget currently, but from what I've found this is my cheapest list I've been able to make.
