@Misanthrope I'm fairly sure I've seen that video before... But generally as a rule people get mad when people break tech, hence why people have done it... Xbox Xbox 360 etc...

Also Youtube's response about Linus's video was epic

Also besides my aforementioned registering for in-person classes another great way to learn is workshops.
Many people don't really know about workshops because they aren't publicly advertised, it's usually word of mouth.

Basically search FB for modeling pages specifically as this is where you'll mostly see workshops because they are looking for models. What happens is there will be anywhere from 3-10 photographers, and I've seen anywhere from 2-20 models show up. Generally it's 5-6 models and 4-5 photogs thoughs.

typically there is usually a $1-$50 photog fee but it truly is a great learning experience if you go in with that mindset. You are taking pictures with photographers who will likely be much better than you. You will see how they get the right angle, bounce ideas off them, show them what you have and get pointers, etc.

Luckily my girlfriend models so my tog fee is usually waived for her participating.

EDIT: Photog fees are typically only a factor if the host of the event is renting studio space of has publicly available lighting setups so you're basically contributing to the studio rental, supplies for the shoot theme, and wear and tear on flash supplies.

There are just as many paid workshops as their are free though. Typically free workshops are just in a park or somewhere public with a cool scenery/setting and there isn't really a "Creative Theme" for the models to dress for. Still a great experience. A lot of times you meet models that are willing to do TFP shoots (time for print; aka their time is paid for by copies of your final image). So then you get to meet models you can call up and set up dates for shoots to test new lighting, poses, shooting style, etc firsthand.

Oh also for consistant photoshop and lightroom, adobe has the photographer package for $10 a month for unlimited updates to LR/PS while you have the subscription. Really worth looking into if you're serious.

My first camera was a Canon T2i with the 18-55 kit lens.... still use it to this day and it's like 8years old or so?
Photos look just the same as my current primary Canon 77D with a 70-200mm / f2.8. Main difference, is I can crop more or blow the images up larger from the 77D. I GARAUNTEE I can do way more especially with flash with my T2I that is 8years old and a kit lens, than you can with a smartphone.

Also keep in mind, getting a shot right right off the camera (with minor color correction) is 100x better and more professional than layering 2, 3, or even 4 images to get a simulated effect and then having to make your own flash contrast and such. I'd rather take one photo and spend 10 seconds applying a passport pro correction on it than spending 5-10mins photoshopping 4 images and 10 layers to get the same result.

This isn't a direct answer to your question in regards to videos, but I would HIGHLY recommend taking in-person classes.
For example, shutterfest is coming up in April and is 2 full days for $99. While it is indeed $99, it is VERY beneficial for photographers.
There is photoshop/lightroom based classes as well. With shutterfest you will learn a lot more than just watching videos. You will take shots, have masters in the art of photography give you pointers related directly to your style, etc.

Eduard the weeb reacted to GoodBytes in RAM in computers vs phones
What is crazy in all of this, is that on PC when you buy 4GB of RAM, say.. you have modules of smaller capacity chips on a board (1 or 2 sticks with many chips).
On a phone, it is 1 or 2 chips at most.

So basically, it cost one heck a lot of money on phones to have that much RAM. What I am trying to say, is that it is making the phone cost a lot, for something is rarely or never used by most people.

well, the difference between the 8700 and the 8700K is literally just the unlocked multiplier. imo not worth the price premium, tough being able to overclock is always nice for somewhat future proofing your rig.

Eduard the weeb reacted to HunterScott in The Black Dog // Mental Health Discussion/Support.
This is just a topic that I thought may benefit someone, or no-one, within this community. I've been debating starting a thread on the topic of mental health for a few months now, but I've been doubting its reception for various reasons.
    1) Many people, including myself, are very cautious about speaking up about their own mental health out of fear of stigma;
    2) It is not an easy topic to approach, and it would be reliant upon the engagement of the community.

BUT, I have finally decided to start a thread. I feel very anonymous within this community, which is fantastic for me as at times, I like to speak without the fear of my comments being linked back to myself (never in a degrading, hateful way may I add!) If my experiences and/or comments can make even one person feel less alone, then I would feel tremendously happy with myself.

I have struggled with depression and anxiety for a few years now, this was exacerbated by the arrival of my son in October 2016. I was diagnosed with post-natal depression and was informed that it would be wise of me to attend some form of talking therapy, i.e. CBT or counselling. Being the male that I am, I discarded all suggestions that I was going through a mental crisis and went on my not-so-merry way. I've often found it incredibly hard to open up to people, whether that's my parents; partner or friends - it's just something that I've always steered clear of doing. My mother often states that it'd be 'easier to extract blood from a stone' than get me to open up about my emotions. To me, I associate opening up about my emotions as a weakness, and that if I just avoid it altogether, it isn't legitimate.

Has anyone else struggled throughout their life? What has been your saving grace, and what words of encouragement would you provide to others who feel like they're in the same boat?

Eduard the weeb reacted to limegorilla in ChromeOS - 6 months later (with Android support)
    Note:
I have done a review on the device I have used (the Chromebook R11 from Acer) too - no idea if I am allowed to link it, but it is on here.
And, please bear in mind that I am on the "developer" channel, so some features may be missing on your device, or more buggy on my own.

Chrome OS caught my eye early 2017 when Google claimed "it will support Android!" and being a student, immediately saw appeal. Also being a tech fanatic, I saw that these would, and have, become very, very big - especially in the education industry. So I received my Chromebook in the June of 2017, (current version of the time was V54 I believe) and being one of the lucky ones, got Android support immediately. Now, since then we have had the new "material" interface implementation, many fixes to the Android support, new features... but the core experience for me, is much the same - and that is a good thing. The software experience, as Google claims, is sleek, and still fast - this is one of the first devices I have not needed to reset every 4 months! And

Now, for the people of this forum, Chrome OS will not become your main OS, it cannot replace macOS or Windows, but for those who use Google's ecosystem, or just need a computer that can web browse, stream video (mine has managed to replay 4K content quite happily, but your hardware may vary - crap! I sound like Linus ) edit documents and just WORK - whatever happens, well they are brilliant. I have come to think of mine as a second, larger phone, with a keyboard. But for your average user, It will & truly do everything, and can only get better.

So booting up Chrome OS - a prosess that continues to be fast (about 10s form button to login screen) - you are greeted with the user accounts, which kinda resembles macOS, but more... material design. In fact, it is a mix of features from Android, Linux, maxOS and Windows, just Googlified. Once you login you are greeted by a Chrome window, either loading up a new page, a set of pages, or continuing from where you left off - it's your prefrence - a black Navbar (which turns transparent on the desktop) with all of your "pinned" apps, websites and extentions on the left, and on the right the navigation, and control center on the right. The "app launcher" is accesed with a home-menu like button, or by pressing the "search" key on your keyboard, replacing the Caps-lock (through you can activate it, with search+alt) The app launcher is black, blurred, or your system colors (comes from wallpaper) and shows all your apps in a Android-esque app drawer, which is OK, but I hope there will be more done to it. It feels very empty. The search button, and bar contained within the launcher, search your device, drive and the play store as well as Google, and can even do basic calculations (like 52x6 but it has to be written 52*6) as does Chrome's omnibox.
Notifications come to the bottom right of your screen, and disappear to the notification drawer after a short time, unless they are persistent, like large downloads, which will stay there till you open the notification drawer, which floats up from the bottom when activated by pressing your current notifications, or the bell icon if you do not have any. Following the rest of the OS it has a Material Design theme as does the action centre, found by pressing your profile photo, brings up a small menu, with connectivity settings, sound, brightness (if you are in tablet mode) and accesebility settings, as well as links to lock and power off the device, place it in night mode, access the help menu and go to settings.

As far as apps goes, it depends on your laptop. Intel - based laptops, like mine, require emulators to work, whereas ARM - based Chromebooks, like Samsungs Chromebook Plus, run android apps faster for the lack of needing an emulator. This by no means makes the Android experience slow, just sometimes laggy - through this is not as much of an issue for the more expensive laptops with the i5 or i7's powering them. Not all apps are supported, and some scale incorrectly (Instagram, I'm looking at you) and some just have weird bugs (Snapchat - now I am looking at you) but the experience gets better with every update. Having full access to the store brings a lot of value to the devices and now is their main selling point.

Other than that, the experience is brilliant. Honestly. The hardware is brilliant too....

And we thought obtrusive and annoying ads were something to complain about. This new "method" is becoming widespread across many websites and most aren't even aware of these scripts sucking off their processors in the background.
Computers are one thing but on mobile devices it drains your battery extremely quick. Equip your hardware with adblockers and phones with 5000mAh+ batteries, the future is gonna be exausting.
