  1. In that case I will have to buy a USB drive as well (not gonna buy CDs), not hard and I could use one anyway. I also added the image from CDI on the original post.
  2. The OS works fine, do I need Linux specifically?
  3. Good morning! A couple days ago my PC fell to its side (was on the floor) and shut down. Not the first time it happened (3-4 times in total over 6 years, I think), but this time a problem occurred. I have an 120 GB SSD that has Windows on it and two 1 TB HDDs. HDD1 is older and I bought it used a few years ago, kind of slow but worked fine. After I turned my PC back on it would seem that HDD1 would freeze my win explorer and then I would get the symptoms of a RAW drive while the files and folders, in many cases, were visible or even accessible (e.g. a .txt I could open). CHKDSK says it's RAW, but it is partially accessible (a). Here is the dumber part: I changed the SATA cable slot on my Mobo and the drive seemed to work (b). Some errors were found, but I used the repair tool. Seemed to work fine. Then the above (a) happened again. I changed the SATA slot, drive went to (b) and then to (a) again. This shows that this is not some classic RAW type error, it is probably something that confuses the OS (Win 10). So far I tried: 1. changing SATA slots 2. changing SATA cable 3. CHKDSK when functional and the results were the above. I will buy a backup external HDD and back up the files ( I need one anyway), if I can, while it is at a semi-functional state. Other than formatting the drive, is there anything else I can do? Thanks in advance. Edit: Added the image from CrystalDiskInfo:
  4. Thanks to cj09beira for the solution, and the rest of you for the help!
  5. Yep, looked into it a bit, that's it! Thanks a lot! Checked that out too, nothing there. It was PowerIso
  6. Well, here is the problem... I cannot see it here. (Looking for E:)
  7. Hi! Recently I removed 1 HDD from my computer (E:) but then its letter was immediately taken up by a fake CD drive, and I cannot remove it. When I put the disk back on, it had a different letter, resulting in my shortcuts becoming problematic. How can I remove the fake drive from my system? It is invisible in Device Management and anywhere else, its only visible in My computer (picture below). Also, cannot use its letter elsewhere. Thanks in advance!
  8. This was a small part of the problem, apparently. still need help.
  9. 16 gigs of ram, no need for paging files. Edit: probably was that, the system management for paging files is crap... I thought i set it to manual.
  10. Hi, i have a problem with my SSD. When I download or move files to this SSD, a samsung ssd 849 evo 120 GB, they seem to take up a lot more space. E.g. i tried moving the folder with The Wither 3, which is about 50 gig, on my SSD that has 60+ gig of free space, but the space fills up while there are 20 more gigs of the game! The pace is restored after restart, at least most of it. Can someone help me resolve this issue?
  11. Hi! I got a new motherboard to upgrade an old pc, tried it and this message appears. No frontal usb ports connected. Any ideas? Thank you on advance!
  12. Hi! It seems i bent 1-2 of the pins in the cpu socket of my mobo (1150, intel). Is that the problem?(pic below) Thanks in advance!
  13. So, it seems I will go for the 4790k, so I will start by buying the RAM I need, the part I want most at the moment. Thank you for your advice, have a nice day! (you can keep posing your opinions, I will read them)
  14. Good evening! After an upgrade on my gaming pc i will have a spare i5 4570 to upgrade my parents' pc, so i will need a motherboard and and ram, 4gb are enough. I have found these: Mobo: Asus H81-Plus RAM: G.Skill 4GB DDR3-1600MHz Are these ok? The pc they will be used on has a 450 w psu and it will only be used for browsing and creating documents.
  15. I got the HDD from a friend of mine, used, for 20 euro. And i can say it was good VFM! I will still keep it, for storage of files etc, but i may buy another HDD, for games and programs, and keep my SSD for windows and essentials.
  16. Crap, i didn't look if the mobo allows overclocks. That's what you are talking about, right?
  17. Will 3 GB be enough or should I go for the 6 GB edition? 3 GB might be a bit limiting, but i may be wrong. The second suggestion sounds like a good idea. Is my PSU that big of a risk, though? Has worked fine for 4 years, everything seems in order. If I change mobo this doesn't sound bad, but i would prefer a slightly more significant upgrade. Looks like good VFM tho. Fair point, all the above.
  18. Good evening! I live in Greece and I'm looking to upgrade my pc for university, which I will use for gaming, games up to BF1 and MEA in terms of graphics, which i want to play at at least (relatively) stable 60 FPS, at any graphics settings, medium would be good tho (EDIT: at 1080p) (and game development, but only for learning). My rig is: Tower: Corsair Carbide 300R (without window) PSU: Corsair CX600 600W 80 Plus Bronze Optical media (CD / DVD etc) Samsung SSD 840 EVO 120GB HDD Hitachi HDT7210 10SLA 60 1 TB And what I will change: CPU: Intel Core i5 4570 3.2 Ghz (4 cores, 4 threads) GPU: Gigabyte AMD Radeon R9 280 Windforce (with OC a few times, it's usually not worth it, I'll explain why) RAM: DDR3 Corsair Vengeance 8 GB 1600 MHz (It may need to be changed) Motherboard: ASRock Z87 Pro4 (DDR3, GDDR5, 1150 socket) My immediate problem is the ram, which is small, but if I'm going to do a full upgrade relatively soon a ddr3 ram upgrade is not worth it because I will probably change to a mobo that supports ddr4. Usually, therefore, oc in the graphics card does not make much difference with full ram. My budget is 1000 euro, but this also includes a screen. I have a 23-inch Dell at 60 Hz refresh rate and I want to upgrade to a better refresh rate, maybe 120-144. So far I've found some good-value screens on Ebay, but I'm open to suggestions. As for hardware, I have 2 builds in mind: Intel Core i7 7700K 4.2 GHz ASRock H270 Pro4 (1151 socket) 2x8 GB DDR4 2400 or 2133 MHz, I do not know what, the 1x16 GB Or Intel Core i7 6700K 4.0 GHz A cheaper motherboard, one that I have more choices for the 6th generation Intel CPU 2x8 GB DDR4 2133 MHz, I do not know what, the 1x16 GB For GPU I will try to get a GTX 1080 from an auction at ebay, otherwise GTX 1060 6gb or RX 480/580 or I will wait for the release of Vega. With the 2nd build I will have more money for a GPU and other stuff. New proposals are welcome. Thanks in advance!
  19. I should edit this, the new PC I will get is probably gonna support DDR4 only, so the extra DDR3 RAM beyond 16 GB is gonna be pointless.
  20. Good evening! I am considering a RAM upgrade, as it seems 8 GB are holding my PC back from playing games like BF1 and ME:A at 60 fps 1080p ( even at min graphics) by a little bit. Overclocking my GPU didn't help noticeably, and from the results i got at Game-debate I can see my RAM is kind of lacking. My rig: Intel Core i5 4570 3.2 GHz 8 GB RAM (Corsair Vengeance, 1600 MHz, DDR3, single stick) AMD Radeon R9 280 (Gigabyte, OC Windforce) Samsung 840 Evo SSD 120 GB, (dunno if it matters that much) Also, since its a single 8 GB stick, can I upgrade, lets say, to 12 gig, or will it have signirficant consequences (I watched the vid down below)? I may get a new rig in a year or so, so I don't need a long term solution. Edit: The new PC I will get is probably gonna support DDR4 only. Thanks in advance! vid:
