  1. I love the concept of the Framework laptop, and I really hope that modular designs becomes a new standard in the laptop sector. I'm a little curious about something though. I know it's meant to be a laptop built for everyday users, but I noticed that it didn't have any room for a dedicated graphics card. Yes gaming would be nice. But as an engineering major, it would be AMAZING if I had a modular laptop with enough power to run solid works on the go. Are there any Framework Plans or community projects so far to add modular graphics cards/ upgraded cooling to the laptop?
  2. Ok, using the local ip to access it directly worked. Thank you very much! I've been trying to use Quickconnect because that's the bookmark I use to access the NAS in google chrome. A while back I was trying to set up HTTPS for the NAS, and I had a lot trouble getting a direct connection; so I stopped bothering to use the NAS's ip. Plus 90% of the time I access files on my NAS through my laptop while I'm on campus. So I've been using Synology Drive and Quickconnect to get into it remotely rather than using network shares. Honestly, I saw a lot of tutorials online that said it was better to use a VPN to access the NAS directly over the internet. But I'm still a novice at this, and a Quickconnect link seemed WAY easier to setup and use.
  3. Hi there, I've been trying to troubleshoot this issue for a while now on my own, but I'm still new to working with NAS servers and I could really use some help. About a year ago, I set up my Synology DS920+ so I could use it as a personal cloud server. However, although I can connect to it indirectly through Synology drive, I can not directly access my NAS through QuickConnect on my home network. To make matters even weirder, for some reason, QuickConnect works perfectly fine over any other network. The only computers that refuse to connect to it at all are computers connected to my home router; both over Ethernet and wifi. Up until this point, I have been working around this and using my phone's data connection to change settings in the NAS's OS. Recently though, I learned a lot about Plex servers and I was hoping to set up my own on my NAS. But, because every single connection to server has to be done remotely, it won't let my adjust any critical settings that require a local connection to do. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this? I have a feeling that it may be an issue with the firewall, but I have no idea what I'm doing with it; and I know how dangerous it can be to accidentally open my NAS's floodgates to the internet.
  4. Ok, thanks! I'll reconfigure things to work with a single switch again. About those gigabit ethernet switches, though. Are there any that you would recommend for home use?
  5. It was actually adaptive load balancing, not balanced-SLB (my bad, sorry about that). On the link aggregation mode page, it says that it "does not require any special network-switch support". Maybe HTTPS just doesn't want to work with link bonding?
  6. Both computers were using LAN cables attached to the same switch (they sit right next to each other). The switch is a Netgear FS105. Since it's an unmanaged switch, I set up link aggregation using the Balanced-SLB mode.
  7. Using window's networking and sharing center, it managed to move about 500 GB over the course of 4 days. It was saying 12 Kb/s up to around day 2, then dropped to 9 Kb/s, then even less. I'm the only one in the house that's set up to use the NAS right now, and my family wasn't heavily using the wi-fi at the time.
  8. Hey guys, I know this isn't exactly a PC problem, but I'm having some trouble with a NAS I just set up; and I could really use some help. I'm new to working on networks, so please bear with me on this. After running out of storage space on my PC, I built a NAS to act as my own personal cloud server for my files. Setting up the unit was easy, but considering that it's gonna hold the bulk of my personal files and data, I wanted to set its security up properly before I headed back off to college without it. First, I tried to encrypt the connection by using Synology's "Let's Encrypt" feature to set up HTTPS. My first go at it actually worked pretty well. I followed Synology's own tutorial on it, and everything seemed to be working smoothly for about a week or so. But, after trying to transfer some files to the NAS, I noticed that the upload speed from my local PC was painfully slow. It was only using one ethernet port to transfer the files; even though I had two plugged into the back of the NAS. So, after some research, I figured out how to use Synology's "Link Aggregation" tool to bond the ports together for sharing the load and adding redundancy. And that's when the problems started showing up. My NAS's HTTPS configuration seemed to disappear the moment I logged back in. The synology.me domain name I set up failed to connect at all. And now the only way for me to get back into my own server is by using Quickconnect. I tried reaching out to Synology's IT service three times, but I kept getting put on hold for so long that the phone call would time out and hang itself up. And even a few weeks later, they still haven't emailed me back on the support ticket I left with them! I really want to set HTTPS back up in order to better protect my NAS. But, considering that my NAS will stay home and I'll be at school; the LAST thing I'd want is to loose access to all my data because one port failed. Is there anything I can do to try and fix it so both features can still run together? NAS build specs: NAS Enclosure: Synology DS 920+ x1 HDD: WD Red Plus 10 TB NAS Hard Disk Drive x1 SSD Cache: Seagate IronWolf 510 960GB NAS M.2 Internal Solid State Drive x1 RAM upgrade: Timetec Hynix IC 16GB DDR4 2666MHz PC4-21300 Unbuffered Non-ECC 1.2V CL19 2Rx8 Dual Rank RAM Does anyone know what I can do to fix this? Like I said, I'm new to working with network storage hardware; so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  9. Ok, I think I'll give that one a shot. Thanks for all the help!
  10. Hey guys, I decided to set up Samsung Dex so I could still use my phone while I'm on my PC. But even through the 3.0 ports, my phone tends to charge very slowly while it's plugged in. On a lot of the newer prebuilt PCs, I've noticed that they started coming with "high-powered USBs" (with the little lightning bolt) or "Fast charging ports" built in. Like this: I've been doing a lot of research online for an upgrade. But all I've been able to find are external charging peripherals; most of which don't carry data at all. Does anyone know if it's possible to install extra internal USB ports on my PC with both high-power charging and data transfer? And if so, what kind of power requirements should I be looking at so I won't overload my PSU?
  11. So I've got good news and bad news. I reconnected the display connector, and I was able to see the Lenovo logo pop up! The screen is working great! ... And then the computer hit me with a BSOD. It said that auto repair couldn't fix it, even after about 3 full restarts. Any ideas on what to do next? bruh.mp4
  12. Ok, I'll open it up later this afternoon. Thanks for all the help man, couldn't have done it without you!!
  13. Good news, it was a display issue! I hooked it up to one of my monitors and it connected just fine. I don't have a lot of experience working on laptop hardware though. Do you have a link to a tutorial I could use for replugging the screen?
  14. What pdf are you referencing? Is it a user manual for the laptop? If you're having trouble getting over the file limit, you could upload it to google drive and paste the link as a reply.
