  1. I thought about the configuration as supposedly my old 1080ti would deactivate one of the ports if another specific port was used (cant remember the order and was not an issue for me) - I have moved the display ports about but still no luck here. unfortunately I only have 2 display port capable monitors at this point and no way to move the HDMI around.
  2. I have been running 3 monitors for years and had no issues, however I recently got myself a new 8k tv and using this as a 4th display, however I am having issues with getting it up and running. I have a gigabyte rtx 3090 gaming oc running windows 10 and I can run any combination of 3 screens, but I am unable to get the 4th one active, even running all 3 working monitors at 1080p trying to initiate the 4th at the same resolution. windows 10 display settings finds all 4 monitors but when I try to activate the 4th I get the message "The display settings could not be saved. Please try a different combination of display settings." acording to gigabyte website the gpu can support 4 multiview (I assume this means 4 monitors) and all research points to the 3090 capable of pushing 4 monitors any ideas?
  3. I am looking for a motherboard to support my 5950x - I was running a Asus ch6 x370 but can't support the 5xxx. I can't find a comparison list for vrm for all x470 b550 and x570 My main use will be content creation/gaming and a possible mild OC (probably won't need to do it on this cpu) The only other thing I need from the board is a lower pcie slot as I have modded my rtx 3090 with heatsink and fans ontop of the GPU backplate cos of the crappy cooling for memory modules So apart from vrm, some nice to have features Bios flashback Post debug led/codes Wifi (though been happily using an old-ish USB wifi adapter) Price - let's see what people suggest but don't want to go ott if I do t have to P.s. I originally went for the asrock master sli refurbished from scan UK for £100 but that turned out to be a failure -
  4. I mostly agree, there are a lot of people that got angry, where as AMD did state originaly 3 generation support... But the fact that the a320 can get support, asrock and gigabyte both modded their bios for beta bios to support 5xxx series, at the end of the day AMD cut support and sent C&D to those beta bios when it should of been up to board developers and having a split choice of removing some old lower tier CPU support (why would u run an athelon x950 etc in a high end board like this) or supporting the full AMD line for processors - the fact some companies have done it just fine is why I call it a dick move rather than anything harsher
  5. The PSU is my previous one that I have tan for 3 years and no issues, Corsair hx 750i Was running a Asus crosshair vi x370 with a 1700 until I upgraded to this new mobo and CPU. I was reluctant to get a new mobo but due to the dick move AMD and Asus done and not support the 5xxx CPU on the x370 I had no choice (people are cross flashing bios's and getting them working minus a few issues due to manufacture chipset differences https://www.overclock.net/threads/rog-crosshair-vi-overclocking-thread.1624603/page-2376 ) Anyway I digress... Took a further closer look, there seems to be some heat damage to the circuit lines to the CPU socket, going to have to send em both back and try find another board
  6. I got myself a shiny new 5950x CPU that worked perfectly for 13 hours, then burnt out its pcie connection. No GPU display out on the boards direct to CPU pcie 16x slot (pcie x1 gen 2 still work) The CPU was brand new but the board was a refurbished asrock master sli (from scan UK and has 12m warranty) My question is what would be the most likely cause for this to happen, the board looks more like it slightly melted in the CPU slot so I'm guessing this originated from the CPU. The CPU I shouldn't have an issue getting replaced, but the board I doubt I'm going to get another at this price. What would people recommended at this point? Replace both or just the CPU? What's the risk at this point using an old CPU to test the board? Could the board of caused the CPU to burn out without effecting itself, thus could be in the same situation on the old CPU?
  7. Welp... Figured it out, I was reluctant to pull the CPU as I was out of thermal compound, but more research pointed to the x16 slot being directly on the CPU. Pulled it in the end and my first thought... Thermal paste application was the best I had ever done, full coverage with minimal over the edge. Had a whiff of warm electrical smell, turned it over and CPU has burn marks...!
  8. I have recently got a asrock x470 master sli board along with a new 5950x and got it up and running easily enough. I had left it on overnight and by the morning it looked as if it had crashed - no display output and didn't see it on the network (could of just been a display issue and not a full crash) I had the GPU in pcie slot 4 (second x16 slot) after rebooting the pc I still got no video out yet boots into windows. If I put the GPU in any of the pcie x1 slot, I get video out again. However putting it into the x16 slot I don't get any video out. I then got an old pcie x1 extension cable - tested it first in the x1 slot and as expected I got video output - using the same extender in either of the x16 slots (so still running on x1) again no video out. I went through the bios and changed the target pcie gen speed to see if it made a difference but nope. The fact it initially worked and then stopped (not even getting post screen) should mean the bios shouldn't be an issue - I updated it to the latest anyway to ensure the 5950x worked with it and reset it to defaults amid my testing. Any ideas on what could be wrong and any more diagnostics I could do? I'm sure I read that some pcie lanes are on the CPU and some are on the chipset - could this be the issue?
  9. Thanks for the heads up, however I think Im in a bit of luck as the way I made the game and test it I dont need to keep compiling it, running some tests in the current setup attached to the router, once the project is loaded the performance seems to be about what I an used. When I do compile the game for a releasable version etc then I will take your advice and make it a local copy before doing so.
  10. thats good to know, I have heard of the other 3, I have read the buffalo software is a bit lacking, qnap I have heard before but never read much about and WD I know through their HDD's but their NAS systems not so much
  11. Budget is as much as I need to, I have seen some Synology systems but I haven't heard of them before.
  12. Somewhat of a specific use case with limitations, that I hope someone will be able to point me in the right directions (make & specs) Use case is for a game development project that I want to share between my desktop and my laptop. I currently have an archer vr900 router, this has usb 3 ports on it, I attempted to use a USB 3 to sata and plug in an old SSD, the router supports SMB and after configuring windows to accept SMB 1.0 I was able to get windows to find this drive, loaded the project files onto the drive and opened it in unity, downside (which I suspected would be the issue) is the speed, it takes a very long time to load the project up compared to a locally stored project. Thus I am looking for a NAS drive to resolve this issue, the transfer speed will be limited by the 5Ghz wifi 1300Mbps (current bench mark when the usb is attached to the router is 93Mbps) As per the thread title I am looking for something that is cheap but easy to use, as its limited to the 1300Mbps a single bay would probably suffice, though a 2 bay one would be useful as I could put an old mechanical drive as a backup drive too (non raid). as long as I can map the NAS to a network drive in windows unity will find and load from it.
  13. its not that its too expensive, it was the justification to spend so much as up till now I have had cheap £20 and the only reason I have got a new one was to go from PS/2 to usb, never had a failure. with that said its a pain to clean and does look like a £20 keyboard - from everything I read, the k70 comes highly recommended - so just took the plunge and got one! thanks to all for your advise, was put to good use!
  14. I would like to say thanks for all your comments, I have held of for a little while to see if I could get the k70 mx red a bit cheaper (also that theres no rush for me to get one atm) but just had my mouse start to die and looking into it again. Just found Razer BlackWidow Chroma for less than £90 though https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00OBPTZ6U/ref=sxbs_sr_ss_b_1?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_p=1302047307&pd_rd_wg=6fbsg&pf_rd_r=DZR148DHNM4JTPB4G5BS&pf_rd_s=desktop-sx-bottom-slot&pf_rd_t=301&pd_rd_i=B00OBPTZ6U&pd_rd_w=2manN&pf_rd_i=corsair%2Bk70&pd_rd_r=BV81F4GCTGMG5PJ70BV0&ie=UTF8&qid=1495226652&sr=1&th=1 what are the razer greens like vs mx switches and what is razer construction like, I have had several mice from them, while they are great they have faild twice now within warrenty
  15. got a link to where I can find the refurb, I found a new MX blue for that price but not red (http://www.awd-it.co.uk/corsair-gaming-k70-mechanical-gaming-keyboard-cherry-mx-blue-ch-9000076-uk-en.html) - I have used them guys before and had no issues
