  1. Hey guys, I'm looking to make a VR building mid range price ideally under £2000 including the cost of the HTC VIVE although could go up by £200-£400 if it was really worth it for something that I have missed. I was looking to travel to multiple locations with the rig. Please could someone check this, let me know if I have missed something glaring obvious. I need enough fire power to run VR while recording in OBS. Along with productivity as a secondary thought, such as video editing etc, although that is very much secondary and the VR is the main port of call. Thanks all, fingers crossed Items Link Cost CPU AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 329.75 CPU Specs 8C/16T, 36MB Cache, 4.4 GHz Max Boost 0.00 CPU Cooler wrait prism inc. 0.00 RAM Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) 79.99 Case Game Max Abyss Full Tower Case 70.91 Motherboard Asus TUF X470 154.89 Wireless netwk BrosTrend 1200Mbps Long Range USB WiFi Dongle 18.99 Power Supply Corsair RM850x 80 PLUS Gold 110.24 HDD WD Blue 2TB 52.30 SSD Graphics Card EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 SC 525.00 VR HTC Vive 499.00 VR accessories Audio Headphones 109.99 TOTAL £1,951.06
  2. Because I'm in the UK I have sub-par fibre to the home and pay extortionate amounts of money for it i.e. £79 PCM.
  3. I'll tell you why there is so much hate for Win10, because it litereally sucks. they gave it away for free because it is essentially a huge data mining tool for microsoft, and in order to stop them from taking your data you have to go through what i can personally describe and the computer equivalent to colonic irrigation. Sure Vista sucked but not because microsoft were trying to steal all yuor information but because it wasn't finished. And the worst part, if you didn't upgrade to Win10 then your stuck either on Win7 which although in my opinion a great OS no longer truly supported or with Win8/8.1 and I haven't used that one so I really can't give an informed opinion on that OS. But still this is the futurefuture where privacy is dead so #yayfortechnology. P.S I really like cookies.
  4. Hi guys PLEASE HELP A FELLOW LTT FAN!!! PLEASE, This is my first ever post on LTT after watching many a video on YouTube so please be gentle with me. I have just replaced my cpu and gpu thermal paste as I was doing a dust clean out due to some debilitating thermal throttling and sore what I believed to be the possibility of upgrading my cpu, something I thought impossible and I had previously thought that it was soldered to the motherboard so YAY. After some research on CPU-Z and good old Google I understand that my laptop (A Sony Vaio (back from when Vaio used to be cool) VPCEC3S0E) has a 989 rPGA soctet with a HM55 chipset (again I believe any advice on this would be great). From there I looked up cpu's with compatible chipsets and sockets and the best one I believe available is a Core I7-840QM which I deduced from this websites list (http://www.cpu-world.com/Sockets/Socket G1 (rPGA988A).html) of CPUs please feel free to say if there is a better one that I missed I just choose the one with the highest numbers like your standard n00b. THEN BELIEVE IT OR NOT I ACTUALLY FOUND ONE FOR SALE ON GOOD OLD EBAY: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Free-shipping-Laptop-CPU-i7-840QM-i7-840QM-SLBMP-1-867GHz-Socket-G1-PGA988A/32642779563.html?source={ifdyn:dyn}{ifpla:pla}{ifdbm:DBM&albch=DID}&src=google&albch=shopping&acnt=494-037-6276&isdl=y&aff_short_key=UneMJZVf&albcp=658695570&albag=41806021108&slnk=&trgt=87981925924&plac=&crea=en32642779563&netw=g&device=c&mtctp=&gclid=CK21n_bOgdMCFW4R0wodf78Jew PLEASE HELP: What I need to know is whether my computer will accept such an upgrade and if it can even be upgraded? There certainly seems to be a way to remove the CPU, with a clear lock/unlock flat head screw postioned directly above and within the cpu socket... I am going to be building a gaming rig later this year as this laptop is really beginning to show its age and it can no longer handle everything I throw at it but for now any upgrade to this old thing will help keep me going, already upgraded to an SSD so no room there for improvement and I don;t see the point in adding 2GB of ram when I have 6 already and to be honest I mostly stream and use this laptop as a media centre. Yours sincerely, A Friend in need...
