  1. Hey howdy LTT community. I dunno if this is the right forum so move it if it needs to be. So, my PC is a bit of a Ship of Theseus, what started as upgrading a 10 year old HP turned into a completely new rig over a few upgrade cycles. And ever since I started the process, my computer has been fairly unstable, with almost all of my games crashing on start up when you initially launch them, and some are unplayable since they can never get past the opening splash screen. Since the problem first arose, I've replaced the GPU, the CPU, the motherboard and chassis (went through the first one with a screwdriver, long story), the hard drive, everything but the RAM. So I'm wondering, is my problem a software glitch, could this be caused by the RAM, or should I redownload Windows?! Any help appreciated, sorry for this being a mess.
  2. To y'all recommending BIOS/hardware stuff, I already got a new mobo in there and the problem persists across both, so it has nothing to do with that.
  3. Hello, LTT community! I'm never sure how to start off these posts so let's dive right in, shall we?I built a ryzen 5 computer a few months ago and it's running great except for one thing. Whenever I try to play most AAA- level games, the game will crash about a minute in. Afterwards when I relaunch, the game stays stable for hours of playtime. This is a widespread problem, and effected games range from Shadow of Mordor in Steam, R6 Siege in uPlay, and Destiny 2 in Blizzard App, so it's not linked to any service, and will happen to games on either my ssd or my hdd. Problem subsists after cpu swap, mobo swap, chassis swap. Haven't tested gpu swap yet, will soon.So I know the hardware isn't a factor (unless it's gpu) and I thought the only possibility is a software bug. Are there any background programs (GeForce experience etc) that commonly have this problem, or do you have any tips for diagnosis? TL;DR: Games keep crashing, it's not a hardware bug, any solutions?
  4. Ah, true true. Still, I'm on a jobless 15 year old budget (dang child labor laws) so the 970 will have to do for now, unless I can somehow be patient and wait a year to buy the 1060. thank you for the help; those features are neato as heck.
  5. I wouldn't say *much* better; it's only really a 10% increase. But thanks for the headsup! Good to see these cards returning to near normal price.
  6. Nope, Dark rock slim =/= shadow rock slim
  7. I read that the Slim was 125mm, according to PCP. And the 212 Evo would have been my first choice, but it's too tall.
  8. Hello, LTT commune. I'm here with an interesting dilemna. You see, I bought a Ryzen 5 1600 from someone who got it for testing, and as a tester he did not receive a stock cooler, just the CPU. So when purchasing it, he gave me a Wraith Stealth from his R3 chips. Now, the Stealth is a 65 TDP cooler and the 1600 is a 65 TDP chip, but I'm still a tiny bit worried with temps in the future. So I know I want a good cooler, but with a mATX case, a jobless 15 year old's budget, and without a proof of purchase of Ryzen to get a Cryorig mounting adapter, my options are few. However, I've narrowed my choices down to a. be quiet!'s Dark Rock Slim and b. Corsair H60. One is $25 and is something I could get pretty soon, while the liquid cooler is double the price and might be overkill, plus I'm planning on grabbing a 970 sometime soon so it'll take a while for me to gain the money for it and the H60. Any advice from the peanut gallery? TL;DR: Dark Rock Slim or H60 for a PC builder on a budget and a smol case?
  9. Certain games regardless of the drive they were stored on would crash in first few minutes of gameplay (then work on second attempted launch), and computer would crash at random times, though that might have just been the 1500X I had had just days ago (placeholder borrowed from friend while waiting on 1600).
  10. Hello, LTT community. I'm a struggling high schooler with a problem: a GTX 1050 Ti to be exact. First off, I have a R5 1600, which is super bottlenecked by my GPU. Secondly, I pulled a Linus and dropped the 1050 Ti (in the box) at a height of about 6 ft when prepping for build, and after that, my computer has been having some stability problems. So I really want a new GPU, but as all y'all know, everything above the 1050 Ti in this generation is extremely overpriced, and prices are still to high for me to stomach. Enter the GTX 970. From what I've read, it's about the same performance as a RX 580/GTX 1060, and since it's a generation old you can easily find many options available on eBay for sub-$200. So, should I get a 970, or just wait the market out and get a GTX 1060 when it's at a good price again? TL;DR: Read the above bold.
