  1. so my old PC has one 128GB SDD for the OS and two 500GB HDD for storage. Now I would like to add two more HDD (both with 1-3TB) in RAID1. I don't need light speeds but I would rather have a lot of security. Any objections? Also: Is it possible to access my NAS on the go? Given that it is running obviously...
  2. It is indeed easy, I already have that kind of a setup. Although starting up and shutting down a Windows machine is such a hustle. I would like to have my NAS running with the snap of a finger and it does not have to run all the time. Preferrably I could control the startup from my main PC or perhaps program an automatic startup? Wow! Good to hear! Also, I did buy the GeForce 710 because it is cheap and passively cooled (The old GPU, a GTX 560 was defective) Thank you for all your help!
  3. Unfortunately it has no video output so the GPU has to stay in. Also, I would like to use the old pc as a rendering-machine from time to time, so can I install windows on one partition and freeNAS on another?
  4. Hi all! I have to decide: Use my existing old PC as a NAS (buy a couple of new HDD and run them in RAID 1 because I am scared of data loss) Or buy one of those little NAS-Stations with two or four bays so I am still protected against data loss. Some thoughts: Running my old PC all the time will wear the (already six, seven year old) components even more. Running a whole PC will draw a lot of energy. Four-bay NASs are quite pricey... The old PCs specs are as such: Intel® Core™ i7-2600 Processor GeForce GT 710 1024MB DDR3 (MSI) RAM 4GB + 16GB Corsair DDR3 Thank you very much!

    DELL vs. LG

Thank you very much for testing that! The Philips is pretty good aside from the trailing-issue.

    DELL vs. LG

I did include a short video in my previous post about the Philips. Perhaps ghosting is not exactly the correct word for it. Maybe 'trailing' describes better what is happening. (black portions of the image have a 10-20 frame long trail when moving) However: You score 1:0 for the LG...

    DELL vs. LG

Hi everybody, I recently bought the Philips BDM4037UW and loved the large 40 inches but the extreme image ghosting was a dealbreaker for me! Now I want to buy something similar as a replacement and basically I narrowed it down to the DELL P4317Q and the LG 43UD79. Actually I didn't even find any other displays in that category and price range. Did I not look hard enough? And what brand would you trust for a display this size? DELL or LG? Thank you very much for your help!
  8. Hi all! I recently purchased the gigantic Philips BDM4037U Monitor. (Linus did a review on it a while ago) I love the size, pixel density and overall image quality... as long as the content is static. As soon as there is black moving content in the image, the ghosting is extreme!!! (I attached a video for you to see) Now, is this normal, or is my device simply a "monday model" (defective), as they say? Help or insight will be highly appreciated! Thank you! 20171129_144424.mp4
  9. The problem is as follows: I have an old PC without peripherals standing in the corner. (only connected via ethernet). I would like to control said old PC from my main machine (for things like renderfarming, 'outsourcing' storage and so on). Using Google Chrome Remote I could easily remote control the old PC... IF there was a cursor. I suppose it doesn't show because I boot the old PC wihtout an actual mouse attached. Also, maybe there is a better way than Chrome Remote, perhaps one that goes directly via network and not online? (both PCs are running Windows 10). All help is much appreciated! Thank y'all!
  10. Would the following statement be at least a little true? "if I get a GPU that is completely overkill for my use-case, it is going to last a lot longer since it never really runs on full load"
  11. Right... Well, I forgot to mention that the mainboard does not have a video output. So obviously without a graphics card there is nowhere to plug a display in. Is it possible to access the Windows interface (like with Remote Desktop) with the computer having no video output whatsoever? Will it even boot up?
  12. Hi guys, I am currently building a Workstation/Gaming-Rig (Ryzen 1800x + 1080ti + 64GB of RAM), because in my old Rig from 2011, the GTX560 died. I would like to keep using the old Computer as a Team-Render Machine / "Dumb-Muscle", since the CPU is still a decent Quad-Core I guess. CPU i7-2600 Quad-Core @ 3.80 GHz RAM 4GB DDR3-1333 + 16GB DDR3-1333 MB ASUS P8H67 - B3 PSU Xilence SPS-XP700 SSD 128 GB ADATA premier pro SP900 So I need to replace the Graphics Card. Can I just go for a cheap one below 50 bucks? I'm planning to only access the Computer via Remote Desktop, it's not going to have its own Display. Any other advice for my plans? Thank you very much in advance!
  13. Okay I get it! So you guys have convinced me to go Ryzen! I read though, that RAM compatibility can be difficult. How many Channels, RAM Speed and so on... To make it simple: How many sticks with what speed should I go for to get 64 GB total. (or maybe get 32GB now and upgrade to 64GB later without ditching any existing sticks) And should I get a motherboard with 4 or 8 slots for RAM? Thank you guys again for helping me, you seem to be saving me a lot of money! I'll have to buy you guys a round of beer
  14. My budget is fairly flexible. I would really like to get the current "Crème de la Crème" without making any compromises. I was thinking from 2.500 to 3.500 EUR. But I am still very interested in what corners I can cut financially. @Flavio hc 16 what's wrong with the Corsair Dominator Platinum?
  15. Ah, okay! Racing Simulations and Open World Games I guess. Maybe a little strategy or a little FPS I was hoping to be flexible. Still, the main use will definitely be 3D Rendering and Video Editing!
