    that code is covered by some license almost 100% forbidding it to be used in open source solutions. So no open source project would use it as it might lead to lawsuites. I made this comment because there are already a lot of memes(at least in russian segment of internet) on Yandex contributions to open source this year

    the only place i see mentioning of FSB is this one: which says(I'm russian, so i can read russian) that data collection is being held with accorfing to russian constitution, laws, [other crap] and documents provided by FSB. we don't acually know what is "according to the documents provided by FSB" they might have clauses like "share all that data with us", but I have honestly no idea

Many already joked that this might be the biggest contribution to open source this year.     Nginx is an open source web server which can also be used as a reverse proxy, load balancer, mail proxy and HTTP cache. The software was created by Igor Sysoev while he was working at Rambler group in Russia and first publicly released in 2004. A company of the same name was founded in 2011 to provide support and Nginx plus paid software. As of August 2019, Netcraft estimated Nginx served 32 percent of all active websites ranked, ranking it first just above Apache at 29 percent. With recent acquisition by F5 Networks for $670 million Rambler decided that they want some of that money too and declared that Sysoev stole their property. Creating a big profitable business is a very risky in Russia. It is not the first time when big business was raided and sold for pennies to government or oligarchs, which shows that t is risky dealing business in Russia.

    I have an issue on Floatplane site. I think it is a bug. steps i to do reproduce the issue: 1) Open a new tab with a video, don't click on play button 2) Activate VPN (previously i used another VPN provider, but now i use PIA, works with both of them) 3) click play button on the video after that video cannot load. progress circle spins forever. i have to reload the page to enjoy my video. Problem remains the same even when i deactivate VPN connection before hitting the play button between steps 2 and 3. I understand that there's a massive migration is happening right now, and this bug isn't a big deal, just an annoying little bug, so i would hope Floatplane team could look into it in the future.

    Russian "agency to ban everything" even twiited that Tumblr decided to remove porn from website because russia asked them to. Obviously a lie. And they even told today that they started to check if Twitter and Facebook comply with Russian laws. so we might also lose them here.

This spring it tried to block popular messenger Telegram, accidentally banning about 20 million IPs from different service providers including AWS, PSN and many others, but due to built-in proxy telegram survived and became even popular. Later they unban most of those IP, but oficcially telegram is still in ban(though it works perfectly fine). Now the government tries to force Google to accept Russian rules. Google has been fined 700 000 roubles (10 400$), but they understood that it is too insignificant sum to affect Google's position.     [UPDATE 20 of April] It is now known that real reason behind banning telegram was not the fact that it declined to cooperate with russian government but the fact that Durov is planning to launch his own cryptocurrency (it already gathered more than billion dollars in ICO). Russian government is afraid that it can disrupt the market.     Head of RosKomNadzor said today that he is looking towards banning Facebook as well. All while banks have problem processing transactions, VK(biggest russian social network, read - russian facebook) mostly down. one food store chain out of business etc., etc.

    Interesting question. I hope not. Durov lives in Dubai and i don't think it has extradition policy with Russia. I would think Russian government would try to assassinate him rather than have a trial.

    Telegram developed their encryption in a way that only users engaged in conversation possess encryption keys. Telegram itself can't have access to their logs.

    Maybe. My gf decided to install it today. She doesn't understand technology well. she just installed an app and it works fine.

    As someone living in russia i can say this: yes it can, i use PIA (thanks LTT advertisement for this service) on PC. i also use socks5 proxy provided also by them on my phone and it works great. Some of my contacts aren't tech savvy and they decided to install telegram today in the middle of blocking. app on phone still works without any additional manipulations.

    Let me remind you that Apple refused to unlock the phone belonged to terrorist. And i admire that move, i can be sure that Apple values me as a customer. Terrorists also breath the same air, drive same cars, wear the same clothes. Should we ban all the manufactures that produce any type of tools or goods terrorists use? And telegram actively bans any accounts suspecting in terrorism, so it is not because they don't want to battle terrorist, it is because Telegram as a company values its customers and refuses to give access to private messaging to third parties.

    RosKomNadzor still trying to block telegram. Just can't do it. Many other services are affected or not working properly. What about Telegram? Desktop version can't work without proxy settings. Phone version is still working
