User Name got a reaction from t33to in Looking to upgrade my monitor, need help.
I am playing a lot of pubg at the moment @ 1440p with a 980ti getting 100fps I sit way to close most of the time (like a foot and a half away and turn my head alot). When I had the 1080p ultrawide I was on witcher and it looked good at normal distances.

I have had 3 ultrawides
-LG 34UM68
-LG 34UM95
-Acer X34
you can get something like the 34um68 for around 300 bucks USD if you look around like the 59 model for 280 and it has freesync 75hz i think.
I noticed a big jump in going with the 1440p style because I use my monitor for productivity and 1080p at 34 was a little too pixley for non gaming, as far as high refresh goes the acer x34 that I have just bought is 100hz and IMO it was not as big of a deal as the jump to 1440 (but your GPU may have issues at that res) sometimes I wish I would have not spent the extra money on the X34 monitor and just stuck with the LG 34UM95

I do Z cash like 450 hash rate, that's pretty good, 1070 is just a tad better, but power is way better on a 1070 and it can mine other crypto better- faster
but power where I live is pretty cheap so 70 cents USD a day to run it around the clock.

User Name got a reaction from Damascus in 4k or Ultrawide?
I own both, I did not like the 4k at 28" windows scaling was buggy (some applications don't scale at all or some are blurry) at first I ran it native but after a few 8 hour days it hurt my eyes. IMO a 1440p 34" monitor is the sweet spot. Pair it with a similar dpi 1080 monitor in portrait mode and it is awesome.

It's crazy the hate that you see in the YouTube comments. I have a graphics amp and love it. My case for getting it is traveling for work I can use the laptop for work then game in the hotel get home and use the graphics amp with my 980ti. Lol my laptop runs 10hr days like 7 days a week, surprisingly it is like a 5% fps loss over a tower so not too bad IMO. Found one online for like $150 USD so it was worth it. Glad to see the video because I was looking into razer at one time. Glad I chose alienware.

It comes down to personal preference.
24"-27" 4k looks nice and sharp, which I appreciate but I would much more prefer 34"-36" for taking full advantage of the screen real estate.
OP, don't disable AA outright, in many cases it still makes quite a lot of difference. Not always but it comes down to the game and which type of AA it uses.
Use lower shadow quality, water, particles and if really needed then level of detail and AF.
Maybe use SSAO instead of HBAO.
I recommend enabling MFAA in NVIDIA Control Panel to override MSAA in games for the same quality and better performance.

User Name got a reaction from Tadziunia in Please help to choose monitor
In My Opinion here, it would be the 1440 or the ultrawide. I have a 4k monitor at 28" and am not a big fan. Extra pixels for my gpu to push and honestly it does not look all that much better. And don't get me started on windows scaling. I also have a 34" lg ultrawide and love it, I can see the pixels somewhat but I just sit back a little, also the color was a little funky out of the box but I changed to Adobe RGB profile and it looks better. Personally I really like ultrawide but check if your games support the resolution, surprisingly some new games still do not have 21:9 support.

User Name reacted to typographie in (Must own) pc games
Rise of the Tomb Raider has big open areas and you are able to travel mostly freely between them if you want, but you follow through them following a linear story. It's not "on rails," per se. There are areas along the way that will require equipment upgrades that you'll only find later on, so there is some minor incentive to go back and explore.
I'd caution not to get too married to every game needing an open world. There's a lot to be said for the well-crafted focus possible in more linear games. Your list includes some of the best open-world games ever, but there are a lot of them out there that do it far worse.
My recommendations may be a little more niche than most of those being talked about so far, so do a bit of your own research.. But on a new PC I'd certainly want to have Dark Souls (at least III), the Deus Ex series, the Metro Redux games, Rimworld, Cities: Skylines, Dishonored, and the more recent XCOM games with the right mods. Nier: Automata has really, really grown on me lately as well.
