  1. I just posted this here to show my results of the Ryzen 5 1500x CPU. Sorry, I just finished editing the post when you replied. Should be all good now.
  2. I used a program called PerformanceTest 8.0 and did a baseline performance test with my newly built Ryzen5 1500x PC. Specs: Ryzen5 1500x CPU MSI B350 Tomahawk Motherboard with every latest update put out so far Sapphire Radeon RX480 OC Nitro And Crucial Ballistix Tactical Series 8GB DDR4-3000 RAM running at ~2177 MHz (haven't touched memory speeds once since building this system). It seems that at least from the comparison sample baselines that they had on the spread sheet comparing my CPU was the Intel Core i7-5820K @ 3.30 GHz, with the Ryzen beating the intel in only SSE (Extended instructions) I thought it was pretty interesting at least.
  3. I just recently finished building a gaming rig using the MSI B350 Tomahawk motherboard with a Ryzen 5 1500x and I have a OCZ TL100 120GB SSD for my sole boot up drive and a Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" SATA internal drive for my mass storage. The problem I am having is it's being recognized in the BIOS but when I boot up Windows and look at available storage devices in My Computer, the SSD only shows up. Any way of telling what could be wrong? I couldn't find anything in my BIOS to set my drives up as boot device and mass storage except I can change the boot priority to my SSD. I double, triple and even quadruple checked the SATA connectors going to my motherboard and they're both connected, both have power going to them so I'm seriously at a loss.
  4. Thanks for the advice, guys. I am actually contemplating on waiting for the Ryzen 5 series to launch, and while I'm at it there, I'll probably also wait and see how well the new RX580 and RX570 GPUs perform as well so I can pick one of those up as well if the price is right. The reason I was deciding to go with a FX-8370 was because: 1. It's a cheaper CPU that I'e personally seen perform very well and didn't have any issues at all. 2. I wanted something that was a little cheaper to play around with overclocking so that I wouldn't feel AS bad if I fried it than I would with a newly released CPU. 3. I'm just trying to find the highest value possible for the lowest prices. I've been researching this for a while and have been weighing all of my options. 4. I understand that AM3+ has no upgrade path but that's not really what I was aiming for in the first place. I am aiming for a decent performing, budget friendly setup that would hold me over until I was able to afford a higher end setup and I'd either build a whole new system and case or I'd just reuse the case for this build. Either way, I really appreciate the input from everyone. I'll be waiting for the Ryzen 5 line-up and the RX580 and 570 to be released to drop the money on a new setup. Thanks again, everyone.
  5. I posted another topic listing a Ryzen setup that I wanted to build for my first PC I ever built but I hit some financial snags and had to improvise. Lol. Sorry should have made that a little more clear.
  6. You know, after hitting submit, I had a brief thought of "what if it was an early April Fools joke" because it was two days ago when they had this stream. Needless to say it was one of the smoothest executed April Fools jokes I've ever seen in my life. He didn't even bat an eye or anything. Just straight up went for it.
  7. Thought up a cheaper first build I'm locking myself in on doing real soon. AMD FX8370 Black Edition MSI 970A Pro Gaming Carbon RGB MoBo XFX RX480 GTR graphics card CoolerMaster Master Liquid Pro 280 16 GB Corsair Vengeance RAM Kingston Savage 120 GB 2.5" SSD for my boot drive Seagate Barracuda 3TB 7200 RPM SSHD All of that in a Fractal Design Define C case with the side window.
  8. So I happened to have had the opportunity to catch a live stream that EVGA did on Facebook like a day or two ago and one of the guys that was talking legitimately stated that he was about to build his first Ryzen PC with a MSI 970 MoBo (I don't remember which CPU or MSI board he said specifically but I distinctly remember him saying he was building a Ryzen PC with an MSI 970 motherboard) and at first, due to me still being new to building PCs and tech, I thought "Oh cool." and just continued to watch then I realized that the 970 chipset is an AM3/AM3+ CPU socket where Ryzen CPUs are AM4... Is this a slip of the tongue or is it possible to run an AM4 socket type on an AM3+ socket? I'm genuinely confused. Lol.
  9. So I saw that there are speculations that AMD will be releasing the RX580 and RX570 GPUs. I did a little looking around and saw that it was going to basically be a refreshed Polaris platform of GPU... I'm new to this and was reading all I could on the RX480 and was about to drop the monies on a gaming build I could run at 1080p efficiently and less expensive than my dream Ryzen 1800x build that I probably won't be building for quite some time as I am very very VERY tight on funds at the moment. I was just wondering if the RX580 and 570 being "refreshed" Polaris platforms was a bad thing or a good thing and was also wondering what the price point and performance would be possible for this sort of card and also if it would be worth my while to wait until it is officially released to see what sort of performance it is gonna push out and just opt for that card instead of a RX480?
  10. There's actually a couple reasons: 1. I couldn't come up with anything else to put as my username and 2. It's my nickname in real life that my friends outside of work and all my family call me so it just sorta stuck. Plus, I don't really see a big deal in it. I have nothing to hide and am not ashamed or scared to tell people I work in repossession.
  11. Without giving too many trade secrets away, I can say that some repossession agents offer their accounts additional services in order to secure the collateral while staying legal. All I have to say is make sure you know what you are putting out into the public domain. Remember, when you have a loan out on a vehicle through a bank, credit union, etc. you don't physically own it until you have paid it off completely.
  12. Yeah, I was just thinking about that. I might go with that.
  13. So as I was out working earlier this morning, my work laptop completely crashed on me. And I mean it's a paperweight now. I'm guessing something may have gotten shorted out somewhere inside it and it just fried but needless to say it's fried. So I had to end my work day at least until my favorite local computer parts store opened up which is MicroCenter. I go in there and they try to work some magic on my laptop to no avail. Thankfully the harddrive was ok so they were able to pull that out and transfer the information that was on it over onto an external harddrive I ended up buying along with a whole new laptop that was either defective out of the factory or was mis-labeled because it's slower than my old laptop and takes forever to load all my necessary programs and have them all running at the same time while I'm out in the field. So then I had an idea... Would there be a way for me to build my own high-speed, compact PC that I could use while out working in my work truck? I'm talking high speed as in fastest boot up possible, fastest program start as possible as well as fastest information rendering from a 4G LTE data stick that I used for internet while out and about. I don't need any fancy graphics, however I do use real-time tracking that constantly pings deployed tracking devices so I'd need a faster data processing computer. On top of that, I know I'd most likely have to either custom build a case or find a heavier duty case that I could modify to have a quick detach sort of system on it so I can take it out of the truck at the end of the day as well as something more power efficient as I will have to either hardwire it to the trucks electrical system to give it power, or install an alternate power source on board. Just curious if this is even feasible or not?
