    Security VLAN?

Okay this is starting to make a lot more sense. I think I will need a pretty decent switch for this. My netgear prosafe switch doesn't have options like that. Would an edge switch be okay for this? Seems to have endless features, although expensive. Also for router was considering the edge router lite also from ubiquity. Would like to go with the USG and have the awesome unifi management interface for all my network in one place, however it lacks a lot of features in its GUI compared the edge router lite, unless you go CLI.

    Security VLAN?

Was wanting to use the Ubiquiti dome cameras and maybe an NVR or just use my synology NAS. Ubiquiti has a list of ports the cameras require. Is it possible to open only the required ports on a single Ethernet port on a switch?
  3. Wanting to setup a security system with IP Cameras. As the cameras will be outside I do not want someone to unplug a camera and have access to my network. Is it possible to have a main VLAN and Security VLAN, where the main VLAN can access the cameras and record... but have the ports the cameras are connected to not have access to anything else? Sort of like one way traffic? Any ideas on how to do this? Are there specific things I need to have on a switch? Will a managed switch be enough or is a fully managed switch needed? Probably considering an Edge Switch or UniFi Switch by Ubiquity. Are these overkill for what I want to do? Cheers!
  4. I'm not satisfied with my on-board solution and I have heard nothing but great things about sound cards, even for digital outputs. Thats the route that seems worth taking. Just not sure which one out of those two.
  5. Not running headphones. I have an Asus P9-x79pro, onboard is okay but in dts mode it pops and crackles and does all kind of silly things. Want the sound card for better customisation too.
  6. Asus D2X card is old and apparently drivers are terrible. Sound blaster is cheaper than the D2X. Card will be used mainly for music, movies and occasional gaming. I need the dolby and dts support via optical. Which is better?
  7. I have a Sony BDVN9200WB blu-ray home theatre system connected to my Sony KDL-32D3100 1360x768 TV. My PC is connected to one of the receiver's HDMI ports. My graphics card is an AMD 7970. The on screen image is horribly blurry and not crisp like it normally is when directly connected to the TV with HDMI. The PC is outputting 1360x768 at 60hz. Anyone else have this problem. This sound system is really nice sounding but I can't take advantage of LPCM as the picture quality is horrible. I feel as though the receiver is altering the output somehow. Any suggestions? Thanks.
  8. This is only just the beginning, but here it is! Finally seeing more 4K monitors pop up. Would love to add one of these to my setup and I am sure Linus would too! http://www.engadget.com/2013/05/31/asus-unveils-31-5-inch-4k-monitor-ahead-of-computex/?utm_medium=feed&utm_source=Feed_Classic&utm_campaign=Engadget
  9. How can I check this is setting? Thanks!
  10. My specs shouldn't bottleneck it, I have 3930k, 16gb of 2133 ram and dual samsung 840 pro ssd's in raid 0. I have read up about some of the settings that I have not encountered before, including that gpu max buffer set to 1. Thanks for your help!
  11. With my single 7970 GHz edition I only get around 20-30 fps when playing far cry 3 at 720p or 1080p at low, medium, high, very high or ultra. Even when I add 8x msaa and hdao nothing changes. It is barely playable and vsync is not enabled. I have tried the latest drivers and even the latest beta drivers and nothing has changed. Even updating the game has not helped. I should also add that my GPU usage never goes up above 20%. It sucks because I see people playing at 70 fps and even in the NCIX video the 8800gt runs at medium better than mine does! Any help is much appreciated! Thanks!

    Simcity 5

This year is bringing out some good games. I personally can't wait for the new Sim City, the new graphics and functionality looks great! You even have to build sewers and things now. Should be fun.
  13. Does anyone know if you can hide the storage chip-set menus that show up directly after the initial post? I have a marvell one and an intel raid one that both show up one after the other. (The initial post I mean for example would be when the Asus logo shows up).
  14. If you or anyone goes bit-fenix like I did in my build, it is a very very tight squeeze putting the HDD cages in. They do actually buckle outwards into the the middle of the case due to the size and squeeze from the fan. I haven't had any problems with the fan or the cages other than sometimes the HDD plastic holders them selves can be hard to align and slide in nicely. Beware it might also look weird if you are picky when it comes to small things like that.
