Zando_ reacted to tikker in Let's reduce our use of network time server synchronisation!
None of those clocks are accurate. That is the core problem. When your microwave is 1 minute ahead of mine, but my coffee maker is 46 seconds behind your radio who knows what the correct time still is?
Clock drift. Another reason why you'd want periodic syncing. Even if you punch in the correct time now, most clocks will start to drift away from that reference because they tick a little faster or slower.

Zando_ got a reaction from Pixelfie in Rtx 2060 super or gtx 1080?
2060 Super will be supported for longer and pulls a bit less power. If you do any non-gaming, some applications can leverage the tensor cores for faster rendering, so they're not exclusively for vidya game ray bouncing. DLSS also looks better than normal AA in many games, so I often use it even when I don't need the performance uplift.

Grab CPUID CPU-Z and HWiNFO64, run single core and multicore in Cinebench R23 and observe the clocks during (or after as HWiNFO64 will record the highest clock hit while it was running). You're most likely either in a multicore workload so it isn't hitting the peak advertised boost (which is usually for single core only), or Windows just hasn't done anything where it needed the CPU to hit full turbo. Make sure you're using the High Performance power plan in Control Panel also.

Zando_ reacted to EshanKumar in India launches Right to Repair portal, all companies must upload Spare parts, service manuals
    Summary
Indian minister of Consumer Affairs (Govt. Of India), Mr. Piyush Goyal, launched the Right to Repair Consumer portal. All companies selling goods in India will have to upload details like service manuals, links to space parts, etc. On this portal.
    The link is: https://www.righttorepairindia.in/

    My thoughts
This portal will also serve as a mechanism to register complaints against device manufacturers. It will also be a great tool for those living outside India, helping them access service manuals, guides, etc. It has just launched, so compliance might take a while. But I am glad to see more countries taking the direction of right to repair.

I have torn mine down, replaced the TIM and joysticks with the Gulikit upgrades. Seems pretty sturdy to me thus far. I'm having a hard time picturing your issue though, but it almost sounds like you could probably fix yourself after a quick teardown, re-assembly.

Unfortunately, with anything mass produced, you're going to get some with defects. Sorry to hear you were one of those.

If you have the specialized equipment needed for that sort of very fine soldering, and the skills to do so, assuming there's no firmware shenanigans it's likely technically possible.

    Practically... no, not feasible.

Zando_ got a reaction from Lurick in Ghost GPU, need some help.
    There is a standard GDDR6 3060 Ti: https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/geforce-rtx-3060-ti.c3681
And a GDDR6X version that launch October 19 2022, so relatively recent SKU: https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/geforce-rtx-3060-ti-gddr6x.c3935

Everything else seems equal, it's just a completely normal 3060 Ti with GDDR6X slapped on top. PCPartPicker US doesn't clock any as in-stock anywhere, so it may have been a paper launch or just for SI companies.

Zando_ reacted to PDifolco in Thoughts on the 7900 xtx ? Should I return?
Well your card seems to perform correctly, no real reason to return it
And the 4080 is normally $200 more expensive (not in Europe tho, they're kinda same price, making the 7900XTX a reaaally bad deal..)

That's absolutely fine. Those temps are well within spec. Fyi the max temp of the gpu is 88c and the max temp for the vram is 100c.

Zando_ reacted to Middcore in Intel Arc A750 vs RTX 3060 ti
Get the 3060 ti or an RX 6600/6600XT/6650XT. There's no reason to buy Arc cards right now unless you just want to experiment with one on a secondary PC and encourage Intel to stay in the market. Don't buy an Arc for a PC you actually "need" to work well.

    1) That card is explicitly PCIe 3.0, those are 4.0 drives.
    2) Aside from the top slot (where I assume your GPU is) that motherboard has no PCIe slots that would support a PCIe 4.0 add-in card to begin with, at best you could use a 1x PCIe 3.0 one:

Shouldn't be any issues, if you're gaming you'll want a platform that supports resizable BAR but that's about it, none of the ARC cards are fast enough to need more bandwidth than PCIe 3.0 can offer.

You'd have to look for yourself. You might notice a difference in general interaction with the OS/programs, you might not. The visual difference in refresh rates is extremely subjective.

I'd go DDR5, it's rather competitive now and will continue to get better and more affordable. A super cheap DDR5-4800 kit is usually equal to - and at worse only slightly behind - a 3200Mhz CL14 kit which is pretty snappy for DDR4:
