I can never hate on the ks versions of chips. I think they are just dumb fun. Negative opinions on it always seem to just miss the point hard. its not there to try to beat ryzen, its just there to see how hard you can push it. Competition literally does not mater here. I dont even understand the "dont recommend" statements like that needs to be explicitly said. no one asking the question of what PC to buy is even looking at that budget, the same way you dont recommend a porshe 918.

like a Dodge Demon hellcat, stupid fun, completely unusable.

Yup, that's the SAS firmware booting up and doing its thing during POST.  The SAS card effectively is its own computer going through its own POST and your PC has to wait for this to finish.

    thats 0.2-0.5v
    1.35v -> 1.55v/1.85v

the former is still reasonable and actually kinda low for 4400-4600 or whatever cometlake imc is capable of

the latter is kinda stupid unless you are running max freq and/or ridicolously tight timings

    i assume you meant 20-50mv =p

as for 2933 jedec just buy some 3200c22 jedec sticks be it heatspreader or generic bare green/black pcb and itll probably auto run at 2933

Yes. The type of games that use over 8 cores don't suffer due to the higher latency.

Not sure having more than 8 cores on a die is worth the additional investment from manufacturers, only some games can use more overall but don't need that much "main" fast threads, and loss of performance due to communication between CCD on parallelized tasks is not significant
Plus it'll make chips harder to build (the smaller silicon parts they use the better), and hardere to cool - Intel is already at 400W max on a 8cores ...

There were some rumors about LGA 1700 getting another generation (Barlett Lake to be specific) with 12 Pcore max, but who knows if that'll actually materialize. With the 7800X3D dominating every game right now and consoles only having 8 Cores, I highly doubt a 12-16 core single CCD will release any time soon.

Yes. You can also just leave that 4 pin unplugged in general as it really isn't necessary.

Also, please move your RAM into the correct slots. You want it in slots 2 and 4 if you're counting from the CPU, with it how you have them arranged you have less than half the amount of memory performance you would have otherwise.

You need an unlocked K series CPU and a Z series motherboard tu run all cores at the maximum multiplier.

With QA reject chipsets and bare minimum VRMs + a half-featured BIOS that may also have stuff that doesn't work even if it is present. They're usable, but not good OC boards if you want to whack hundreds of watts through a Haswell chip. If memory serves my j-bin 5960X was ~350W at 4.5GHz. The Xeons are usually worse bins than the i7s, and significantly worse than a j-bin (specific batch/series of 5960Xs that have above-average bins), so it'll need more voltage to hit similar clocks, meaning higher power draw. Which requires a beefy cooler and beefy VRMs.

Folks I've seen with the Xeons often end up running them at 4.2Ghz. A Ryzen Zen+ chip (2000 series aside from the -G APUs) will also do 4.2Ghz, and IPC is similar to Haswell. There's a slight loss due to core-to-core latencies being higher on Ryzen than Intel's ringbus architecture, but they're very close. Zen 2 onwards is much better, and you should be able to get those chips dirt cheap now. You should be able to get a good B450 board for the same or less than a good X99 board.

Also worth noting, X99 does not support registered ECC so you cannot use that cheap server RAM. You'd have to use a C chipset which does not support overclocking, defeating the point of the Xeon. You could use ECC unreg, but that isn't any cheaper than normal DDR4, and would run as non-ECC anyways.
^^^ 100%. The 12100 is a killer budget chip already, if the 7500F is even better then 👌. Coworker has an i3 12100, he has 0 issues pushing 1440p 165Hz with a 3060/3060 Ti (I forgot which version of the 3060 he has). If you're purely gaming, the modern 4c/8t chips are nothing to sneeze at.

It's only a good deal if you'll actually use it.

If you want an actual good deal, then that depends on what exactly you're doing with it. As noted you're probably better served with a mainstream platform unless you actually need 52 threads.

If you just want a Xeon server for the hell of it, then who am I to stop you. I use HEDT (basically Xeons but without some workstation/server features) for gaming because I think the platforms are neat.

    From the seller's feedback:
I would assume that the GPU that earned that feedback died and was baked by the seller to keep it alive for a few weeks. Just long enough to get past the return window. Personally, I'd stay far away from that seller.
