Get rid of that crap completely from your rig and use the bios that software is wonky at best and even after going into the bios it seems to maintain settings that you've made and conflicts with the system causing instability

Go for it I built my 32TB unRAID server from my i7 6700 and it serves up a dozen docker containers, plex, as a file server and a few vm's thing is rock solid you can use the sata ports on the board and expand with an HBA flashed to IT mode when needed I get 6-10 streams from plex depending on transcode requirements

No need to bridge, just give both the nas a pc a ip in the same subnet.

Just change the ip in control panel under network adapter properties.

My recommendation is to download and install unRAID and use the free 30 day trial it is the full os not a partial give it a dry run it is a great NAS solution but you will need to provide the hardware I built mine around an i7 6700 pre built that I retired its been flawless for a few years now

You might be interested in checking out the new Helios64 by Kobol https://blog.kobol.io/2020/01/02/helios64-annoucement/
It just started shipping last month. They do a 5 bay enclosure with a custom board based off the RK3399 (RockPro64) chip. It's USD $295 + shipping, so you could install a ARM distro such as DietPi to run it as a NAS along with a Plex Server etc...

Salacious B Crum reacted to Jarsky in Budget Plex Server Under $500 Suggestions 2020
Not sure why everyone suggests Rackmount servers for the typical person....rack servers are noisy and a pita for most people who don't have other rack gear.
I'd just look at someone selling a desktop second hand....some things to keep in mind

    - If you have a Plex Pass and use transcoding, get something with an Intel 7th gen or higher CPU
    - Even 8GB of ram is overkill for a Plex Server, dont pay premium for 16GB (even 4GB is plenty)
    - If you do mostly direct play you don't need a strong CPU, even an i3 or Ryzen 3 is perfectly adequate. Since you have plex pass an Intel CPU has both Windows & Linux Support for hw transcoding.

If you want to do a new build, since you do have a Plex Pass - a build like this will easily handle well over a dozen 1080p hw transcoded streams simultaneously. Intel Quick Sync is excellent for this job. I included a 6TB disk for a decent amount of storage...you could obviously take that out if you already have the storage or use a smaller disk like a 4TB which will bring it under the $500 target

Thanks figured it out I had to literally click the ok button for that script warning 2 dozen times and finally their uninstall window popped up not very nice of them to just not just allow removal in the normal way I gotta keep a better eye out for those click boxes that are pre-applied while conducting a download

Yep that would be ideal post how you make out as many have had similar questions regarding these server upgrades my R710 and R410 don't have these options so I will have to tap inline somewhere when that day comes just haven't had the need yet

I run blue iris it has a ton of options but I have it running on quite an overbuilt pc (AMD R7 1800X) just keep in mind these setups require a ton of resources to work without issues so if you build an NVR keep that in mind I had a purpose built NVR (Swann) and to be quite honest it was an 8 camera unit with only 4 cameras and it was wonky at best the ui sucked I'm sure they have come a long way since then but keep this in mind try to confirm how well they operate with a full complement of cameras, oh and blue iris is not free although it will probably be the cheapest part of the build if you go that route ?

That should be fine and the reason your not finding much on the requirements is that you already have them right there the system does not require much for just NAS duty and you can run handbrake and MKV in a docker on unRAID the nice thing about unRAID that seems to fit well with your goal is that it is scalable at any time by just adding another drive of any size as long as its not bigger than the parity drive if your not going to use parity then I believe there is not drive limit on size as to your need for a optical drive well thats up to you how you go about it either internal or a usb external unit you can try unRAID for free up to 30 days plus 15/15 with no limitations on the trial you get full features to run through there paces I suggest that you post on the forum over there those folks are super helpful in getting you set up

Yeah I think its doable maybe a wemos D1 mini tied to the power switch pins on the mother board then a script/sketch with one of those amp clamps on each power supply or better yet a power monitoring Sonoff integrated with home assistant flashed with tasmota would be an option but I admit you have a bit of research to do but I think its doable and at a reasonable cost

If you are working on the cheap look for a 5 year old prebuilt pc with an I5 or I7 and stuff it with drives to your liking install unRAID and you will have a great little home NAS/media server for your entire home network, see the specs below in my sig for my primary unRAID server it is built on my old prebuilt I7 6700 I can get around 8 streams depending on the file type and trans-code requirements mostly direct stream which puts very little stress on the cpu I also run 20+ plus dockers without issue
