  1. Hi All, I managed to get hold of a 3080ti XC3 Ultra at MSRP which i recieved today. Im having an issue with my Acer x34p monitor where when i try to increase the refresh rate from anything above 60 hz, the monitor acts like its getting an intermitent signal from my pc. This issue only arose when i installed the card My old card (GTX 1080 ti) never encountered this issue. Ive done vbios updates, new drivers for both gpu and monitor, unistalling drivers, cleared cmos, enabled HAGS (aparrently a fix on earlier rtx 30 series cards) but still no luck. Any advice would be welcome before i open up an rma request eith evga Many thanks, DaButterGamer

  3. Ive tried plugging both ends into the connector in my pc and the activity leds start blinking. I tried doing the same in my unraid server to which the leds dont start blinking. Im assuming its either a faulty nic or its a driver issue. However the nic is reconsided in unraid Any suggestions, DaButterGamer
  4. Hi all, I brought 2x HP NC523SFP 10gb Nics to populate one in my workstation and thr other in my unraid server. From reading the nics dont support windows 10 so i grabbed the drivers for windows server 2012 and installed them which made them appear. Only problem is that the nics say the sfp cable isnt plugged in. Would this be a problem with the Nics or the actual cable it self. Any responses would be greatly appreciated Many thanks, DaButterGamer
  5. Hi All, Even since ive seen the reviews of the rtx 3080, im now starting to decide on upgrading my current rig. However, when watching the reviews, i have noticed that at 1440p, CPU's seem to start bottle neckking performance of the new cards. So since avaliablity of the new cards is so scarce, im thinking that i might want to upgrade my CPU platform before getting the new GPU. My current specs are as follows: I7 5960X (4.3 Ghz) 32GB ram (2400mhz) MSI X99 XPower Titanium EVGA 1080ti FTW3 I was thinking that if i upgrade to maybe a Ryzen 9 3900XT and a new 32GB kit of ram at over 3000 Mhz speed then when the cards become probably avaliable (probs towards the start of 2021) i upgrade then. Love to hear back from you guys Many thanks DaButterGamer
  6. Just thought i would jump on to this thread. Does anyone know if this laptop is user upgradable? I would imagine the ram and storage is but can anyone clarify. Many thanks, DBG
  7. Thanks everyone for the suggestions. After much consideration I have brought a Ryzen 9 3900x (mainly due to the discounted price [Thanks Intel ]) and won an ebay auction for a quadro p2000. As the GPU hasn't arrived but the CPU and everything else has, is it possible to bypass needing a gpu to boot Unraid. PS: I am using a MSI B450 Motor Max
  8. Thanks for your advice. One of the reasons I wanted to go fairly high end with the CPU is so that I could run multiple VMs concurrently. For NAS Storage, I've ordered 4 x 4TB WD red's for bulk storage (which one of the drives will be used for redundancy) and have a 500gb NVME drive for caching. I'm also planning on using 2x 1TB SSD and partioning the raid for the VM's. I've got an 850w 80+ Plat PSU I had spare from a previous build which I know is a bit overkill but I didn't wanted to buy another PSU if I had one spare.
  9. Don't really have a budget ... maybe £600 on a cpu. In the UK, used market is full of overpriced gpus at the moment so it might have to be a modern gpu
  10. Okay, thanks for the advice. Any recommendation on GPU ?
  11. I maybe wrong on this but after reading some forums, plex only supports transcoding on Intel CPUs, hence why im opting for intel.
  12. Hi All, As stated in a previous post of mine, I am currently building my first home sever. I'm planning to to use my home server; - as a NAS - to run virtual machines (Maybe even a Minecraft server on a VM) - to run a plex server On my previous post when asking what CPU would be recommended to us, I was told to look at Xeon E CPUs. Having spent hours researching into Xeon E's and looking what's available, I'm contemplating getting an Intel® Xeon® E-2176G. The price of which would cost me circa £400. I was just wondering what the difference was between a Xeon E-2176G and a i7 9700k and if I would benefit opting to use one over another ? Any advice would be welcomed. Many thanks, DaButterGamer
  13. Hi All, I'm currently in a tricky situation. Because of lockdown, ive decided to do a passion project to keep my spirits high. I'm looking at building a new Nas to replace my current Qnap Nas. The Nas that i am building will be a home media server (maybe a plex server) whilst experimenting with some virtualisation (perhaps even running a Minecraft server). I've already brought some stuff for the build as ive found that the Fractual Node 804 is a fantastic case for a Nas as it has room for up to 10 3.5inch hard drives. I'm looking for CPU and motherboard suggestions. There's no budget and It can be as high end as needed but needs a micro atx form factor The reason I'm in a tricky situation is because I'm in the awkward stage where new CPUs and motherboards releases are coming out in the coming months. Appreciate any feedback Many thanks, DaButterGamer
